    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Hi Cake,

I've done some calculations and, beyond the normal payment, we'll be sticking in an extra £1,870 a month which totals £22,440 over the year - the goal still being mortgage freedom on 01/12/2010!

    Thanks,

    Billy

  • Hi,

Am new to the forum and would love to join this thread to help me focus on my MFW journey. Could you put me down for a monthly overpayment of £150, I know it's not a huge amount but I want to set myself up for success and anything more would be a bonus. :T

    thanks
    Jo

Welcome Jo - fantastic first post and great plan - you're no. 34 :D

(by the way £150 isn't small, I really believe every little helps and I've made an OP of £3 before now :rotfl:)

    Hi Cake21
I am really excited about 2010 already - could you please put me down for a £30k reduction in my mortgage balance - I will have managed £21k in 2009 bringing it down to £150k and want to really stretch myself next year - as part of my personal challenge to completely pay off my mortgage in 3-5 years.

Looking forward to taking part and watch the others achieve their goals as well

    Thanks

Ohhh go on then... count me in! :D I haven't decided yet what to have as my target - its going to be either (a) ~£500 or less for the year or (b) ~£6000 (the max I can OP without changing my term) :rotfl:.

I need to make a major decision careerwise in the next month or so which may massively impact my OP potential (hence option a :o). Can I let you know my target nearer to the start date?

    Thank-you! :D

PS can I be awkward too and ask for no43? Its my MFiT no... :rotfl:

  • Hi Cake and all

Can I sign up too please. I'm already number 81 on the 2009 challenge so if it's ok with you can I stick with that?

My target for 2010 is to make £9600 of Overpayments.

I'll also drop you a PM

    Regards

    Welcome both of you!
I haven't added you for now, it's all a bit low-tech on cake's thread :o so in case I forget could you please remind me when we're getting close to your desired numbers? :D

Also can I be very nosy and ask about the major career decision? :o
There's been a couple of jobs that may have been interesting but I haven't gone for them because I couldn't face removing my OP potential (not entirely, but it definitely would disappear if/when interest rates rise again). Please feel free to tell me to mind my own though! :rotfl:

See here post 52 onwards if you'd like to be bored... :rotfl:. Option 2 and 4 are the only runners now and there is much resistance to option 2 in my dept. I'm just not 100% sure spending over £20k (option 4) will be worth it long term as there is a reasonable chance I'd be no better off than now in 10-12 yrs time both salary and careers-wise (some jobs require a PhD and for other jobs I'd be so overqualified for they wouldn't even consider me and getting fellowships (~4-6yrs after PhD) is VERY difficult. I've seen so many of my exceptionally good collegues being unable to make the next step in Academia then struggle to branch out into something else.). This years main application closing date is just before Xmas so I need to decide soon. I hate making decisions and this is a biggie... Its looking more and more likely that I won't go for it but I'd still need to find something else to work towards as my current role is not where I want to be.

 Hmmm must update my diary... :o

For your decision... What would make you the happiest? What would give you the best combination of work/life balance? What would be the best for you (and your family?), for your career, for your health? OPing your mortgage is great but its not the be all and end all ( :p)... You need to have a life and enjoy it at the same time... and your job is a big part of that. Who knows what lies ahead...

    Hello.

    I will join please.

Because of job circumstances etc I will put me and the missus down for £3000. We have almost reached that target since starting 6 months ago but I really want a holiday next year and who knows about overtime etc eh!

    Cheers
