  • No 32 checking in for February - another £200 overpayment come off the mortgage today with our regular payment.

I've also put another £200 into the savings account which now stands at £1100 - to be paid off on the mortgage if we don't use it whilst I am on maternity leave.
Quite pleased to make that extra payment as we have also managed to have a fab holiday in Dubai last week so we seem to be getting the balance right between saving and living!!

Good luck all for the rest of the year x

    Hello All,

Well I just couldn't resist pushing the OPs this month to a round £2000.

Checked balance and since there is no Council Tax- thanks for reminding me of that everybody;)- I just rounded the number up a little so I won't miss it but I can feel chuffed with the nice rounded total.:D

This means 22% of the annual target has been achieved so far- so a promising start to 2010. I know we won't be able to OP as much once building work recommences later in the year so I'm determined to make a dent now while I can.

    Good luck fellow OP addicts!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.

How is everyone getting on with saving in other areas?

I ask because l'm astonished at what we can save by really thinking about next weeks meals, buying a joint and getting another one or two meals out of it, etc.

The freezer is actually fuller too because it's full of extra meals waiting to be had!!

I probably spent around £80 a week before now l'm spending an average of £40 per week for 3 of us :T the only difference l've noticed is not as much 'snacky' stuff (expensive) but lots more fruit (cheaper and healthier) :p

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • £200 overpayment today, first this year - not much in the grand scheme of things, but January saw the washing machine and dishwasher self-destruct in rapid succession, and replacements for those have been using up spare cash. Onwards and downwards :)

    Hi all,

Just reporting my Feb OP of £42.35 so far. Have had an expensive start to the year so am way off target! Hopefully the DIY will be done soon so will hope to catch up over the rest of the year - especially if OH can pick up some extra work to make up the shortfall!

  • I've decided to increase my savings instead of pay off the mortgage for now. I can bet a better savings rate so it sounds sensible right?

I'm going to continue to op by approx 250 pm but put everything else into a bond or something for 12m.
Then when rates rise I can make a lump sum reduction and so long as savings-debts gets closer to zero or a positive value then I'm ok aren't I?

Cake is it ok to continue to track my savings even if not strictly going towards the mortgage?

    Most definitely! :money:
    Well done everyone!
  • Feb overpayment of £556.74 to report. I'm really pleased with that as i didn't think we would manage anything but the tax rebate helped. I need to send a bit more to savings too i think, but next payday and warmer weather just around the corner to help me along.

I need to catch up how you are all doing.
