  • Hi, may I join this challenge? Success of 2009 (£8,800 overpayment) unlikely to be repeated in 2010. My overpayment challenge for 2010 is £2,200.

    Good luck to everyone.

  • Hi Cake,

Please can I join this MFW 2010 challenge. My target is to completely clear my £27,666 mortgage.

    Good luck to everyone!
  • Well I had better join the 2010 challenge after the 2009 helped me so much. I doubt I will achieve what I did in 2009 but still want to reduce the mortgage as much as I can. Put me down for £6,000 and I will have to scour the forums for additional ways to make and save money in 2010.

    Good luck everyone,

    NoobySaver.

Hi, I've been an avid lurker for some time on this board and have finally taken up the 2010 challenge.
Ive gone for an overpayment of £6000 in 2010, Im hoping we can do this.

A little about us, we are a family of 3 with a 11month old DD.
Our mortgage term is currently 11 1/2 yrs to go, with secured 117667.80 and unsecured 2147.84.

We are currently overpaying £371 per month and have advised mortgage company to increase to £571 per month from 30th December.

The unsecured amount is currently to do with PPI complaint and is with the Financial Ombudsman. So we have not cleared this. The overpayment is being paid off the secured part.

Both the secured and unsecured amounts are on 2.59% so it doesn't really matter about no overpaying on the unsecured.

    Hi Cake 21
Just posted final totals across on MFW 2009.
Can I aim for £500 this year please. Any more will be a bonus for me
Will update mortgage owed when I get annual statement through - or could be ringing them up - have had endowment statement showing how much of that is left, so may amend total to repayment bit of mortgage.

Although I haven't finished posting in the 2009 challenge I would like to be added to the list for 2010. Originally I had hoped to clear the mortgage completely by next July in time for my DH's 60th birthday. However, owing to other commitments in the shape of DD2 having just got married and DD1 still studying (abroad) I haven't been able to save as much as I had hoped.

My mortgage is with the Nationwide which means we can only overpay by a maximum of £500 per month. We are in the 3rd year of a 5yr fix so can't change the term. However, I will set my target of £500 per month/£6000 for the year the same as this year. I hope that from January I will be able to put by some extra in an ISA to make up the difference. By July we will owe approx 12k.(Current balance is just over £20k). If I save as much as possible and then raid existing savings we will be able to clear it in time for our July target, which will be 12 months early. Well, that's the plan anyway!

Good luck everyone - you are doing amazing work. And thanks to Cake21 for running the list.
