Congratulations Moniker - we've taken the approach that everything else can wait until the mortgage goes. We need (want really) a new front door, new toilet, bathroom, kitchen, flooring, stairs, internal doors and skirtings and a multitude of electronic gadgetry that I've denied myself over the last few years. I can't imagine any of that being worth more than not having a mortgage though! Best of luck to you.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Thanks for the encouragement. Although the quote for replacing the front door was really good and I am sure it would have looked great we decided reluctantly to put it off and keep focussed on paying off the mortgage by the end of the year if we can. Still a bit uncertain though as we don't know what if any support DD1 will need when she returns to Germany for uni next month and I have taken a cut in salary from September as I have slightly reduced my hours. Until I get my September payslip I won't know exactly how much I will have left to save.

Have just written the cheque for this month's OP and will take it in on Saturday. Will update totals when regular payment has gone out on 1st of the month.

Good luck everyone, and thanks for all the good advice!

  • Number 180 checking in for penultimate payment.

Now at the 1 month to go mark, it's hard to believe I'm almost there. What am I going to obsess about when the mortgage is paid off? I'm sure I'll think of something!

£2000 overpayment + £14 mortgage payment (£7.66 of which is interest):

    Old Mortgage balance: £3,675
New Mortgage balance: £1,665 (£25,335 paid off since start of 2010) - 55% balance payment this month

    Milestone achieved:
    1 month left
    Milestone achieved: Penultimate payment
Milestone achieved: <£0.20 interest a day (was 25p, now 11.4p)
    Milestone achieved: <£50 interest a year & <£5 interest a month

    Target: 29th October 2010 (30 days)

Well done to everyone overpaying whether it's £1 or £1million.
