I know the feeling. Am having a bad month too, a bad year in fact. A nightmare year. Not going into detail as everyone will come down on me like a ton of bricks but its to do with helping dd out with uni costs. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Ive started doing competitions Jamie. It might be an idea for you. I won a Garfield 2 DVD last week and sold it on ebay for £7.06 plus £2p&p, already had the packing and to post it first class was £1.20. Buyer happy, me happy. Had 13 bids. Definitely going to do more comps although I get bored with it, even with the form filler. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Would we come down on you like a ton of bricks? No...

All right, I'll confess, if Jamie doesnt mind me hijacking the thread slightly. At least its not my own thread so wont draw so much attention. I made a promise to support both my kids through uni. It looks very much like the youngest wont go but dd is there at the moment. I pay her rent and fees and she lives off her loan. She has a part time job but it doesnt go far. She is moving houses this year and it has made things difficult. I am paying this years rent by prepaid cheques of £289, so am still paying that till June. However, the new landlord needed a deposit and fee of £411 so bang went the majority of my debt payment for this month.  Then they also want the first quarter's rent of £945 by July so I am having to save £300 per month for this plus paying the £289 I am already paying, plus fees of over £300 next month, plus the deposit I mentioned.  Wont have any money to pay anything off debt till July but just cant leave her in the lurch; she has to have somewhere to live and doesnt have the money herself. Everyone will say I am too soft but its a commitment that I will not go back on. I will not see her starting off her working life with major debt. Even so I am devastated by this latest financial blow. Have also been told that we are going to get a massive tax bill next year so am having to save £60 per week towards it. Its my kids 18 and 21st birthdays this year and can buy them nothing. The reason why we have a high tax bill is because my OH worked loads of overtime to pay school fees for son. We are fools I know. Hes stopped going there now and is at the local college. My OH is on a high income but we dont see anything of it. I dont expect sympathy as we have made our bed but we have the £16,000+ debt which is not shifting very fast and I find it so frustrating that we have all these commitments. Please dont dissuade me from them because I cannot leave dd high and dry.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Looking on the bright side.- Your daughter has a job. That helps both now and in the furture when she's looking for permanent work.
- A lot of stuff you are shelling out for are deposits - which you will get back.
- You are saving you daughter from a lot of debt - that's interest you as a family are saving.
- Also since she won't be in tremendous amounts of debt, it means she can move out earlier and won't be living with you until she's 40.
I just hope she appreciates your struggles, and what a good mother she has."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Youve made me feel a lot better. I was just thinking that its no way to start life off, being in major debt before youve really lived and as you say, eventually we will get the deposits back. Its just hard at the moment. Sorry Jamie, to hijack your thread. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Awww, thats not so bad, we won't shout at you!!!
Had you said you'd taken out a few loans at some stupid rate and blown the lot on gambling or something then yeah, maybe you may have got more of a lecture, but I think what you've done is very admirable! :T
It is extremely tough getting through uni and coming out the other side without a huge financial burden but you are giving your daughter the best opportunity to start her working life relatively debt-free - good on you!! :TMortgage Total: £50,720/ £75,000

jamie - keep your pecker up. once you get into the frame of mind that frugal month is a fun challenge rather than a necessity, it becomes much less arduous :grouphug:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0
