Re-using Plastic bottlesDoes anyone know about re-using plastic bottles. Someone sent me an email about re-using them saying that they can become toxic/carcinogenic? I re-use a water bottle to swig my tea out of on the way to work (hours journey, set off early, no breakfast s o really look forward to that swig of tea). But now it appears I may be damaging my health  Or is it all a scam by the plastic bottle manufacturers to get us to buy more??

The issue is regarding so-called "gender-bender" chemicals (that mimic fmale hormones). They're called phthallates (sorry for the science lesson, no test at the end, honest!) and are found in PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)bottles, and are what make them pliable. I seem to remember that they're not used in more modern bottles (mine is polythene, disposable ones are usually polyester), but can't find any info on Google. Have you considered an insulated mug? Mine has a metal liner, and keeps my coffee hot for 30 mins.

    Metherer, have a great day!

Got to go, back soon, boy chopsing to go to footie training.................

    Hello everyone!

Metherer - congratulations on your wedding tomorrow:love:. You must be so excited!

Twink - how did your DD's wedding go? I heard from a New Zealand couple who got married at Gretna that it is a very special place to tie the knot.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately, have been totally wrecked. I've got the opposite of insomnia now and can't stop sleeping. It's worse than being awake half the night as I have been getting next to nothing done. I've been in an irritable mood as well, feel alright most of the time but get annoyed too easily.

BargainRzl and Nelski - glad to hear you're enjoying yourselves, hope you have a great time at Ticklemouse's tonight.

Oh I am so flipping tired, but have to drag myself out to Sainsbury's. I am going to get some jelly so that I can make trifle out of my burnt muffins and will scoff that tonight. I'll have another attempt at muffin making this pm too, if I can keep my peepers open long enough.

PennyPincher - hope your parents' evening goes well. I am sure they will treat you with manners and courtesy.

Jan59 - regards plastic bottles...maybe buy some drinks in glass bottles, then use those for your tea if you're at all worried about plastic. If there was an acknowledged problem wouldn't they be off the shelves? Though the contents eg cola are probably worse than the actual bottles! I remember reading somewhere that some bottled waters can be hanging around in warehouses for anything up to a couple of years before they are actually distributed to shops. For some reason this makes me feel queasy, not sure why. It makes me laugh (or rather emit a cynical grunt) that bottled water has a sell by date - errr, does water go off? Specially if it has been filtering through the Alps for two hundred thousand years or however long it is.

    Cheerio all.

. Unfortunatly, there was no Dora at Universal the day we went (not sure if she is there normally as the day we were there it was raining and none of the characters were out, apart from Shrek and Donkey!!) but i did get the children to take a picture of me in front of a shop with a huge Dora on the window, but i look like a drowned rat, so dont think i will be sharing it!!!!

Right, im off to do something useful, not sure what yet tho!!!
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We saw Dora at Universal, did you go and 'speak' with donkey - he made me laugh he was soooo rude. My son also met Spongebob - he is totally addicted - and he was very overwhelmed by the whole experience.

Congrats to Metherer and Twinks DD.

Well I have had a bad day myself. For a treat went into local town first thing this am and had a mooch around the shops. Bought myself couple of nice tops from Peacocks (they have really got loads of nice cheap stuff in at the mom) and treated myself to a coffee. I did think to myself then that the day was going rather well. Came home and found out some bad news regarding my business - we need to make an insurance claim and either it will cost us a lot of money now to sort or if the insurance pay it will cost us a lot on our renewal next year. Really feel I am taking 2 steps forward and 4 steps back at the mom. We havnt had a month recently without any bad news. So feeling a bit sorry for myself at the mom and cant concentrate on anthing so think will have a couple of glasses of wine and an early night.

Also gutted as not done any housework today and had such great plans of keeping it nice by doing bit each day which was really working after all the FL last week.

Anyway trying to stay positive and feel bad as other people have got far more things to worry about but it still gets you down.

Off now hope you all have a lovely evening.

Essex girl - What a shame they wernt doing the character greatings the day we went, wouldve loved to have met Dora (Shez knows what i mean!!!!) and yes, we did meet Donkey and Shrek, Donkey was great, spoke to my children asked their names etc, and when i was trying to get them to stand still for a photo, he joined in and chastised them, it was really funny!!!!

Have had a lovely day today, the weather cheered up (eventualy) so the little ones could go outside to play, and it meant we could walk to collect the children from school. Then, my good friend stayed for dinner with her two children, and we had a good gossip and laugh, finished off a bottle of wine (half left from last night) and tried my raspberry bacardi that i got in the duty free shop in the states, and very nice it was too!!!! I did salad, new potatoes and pork in spare ribs sauce, and it was lovely, finished off with those weetabix brownies, which were lovely!!! Mind you, made a batch today, and there are only 2 left :o !!!
Right, off to put my 2 to bed, then settle down to watch the end of Wimbledon (Andy Murrey is winning at the moment) and then watch the last episode of House (9pm Channel 5).
    Have a great evening everyone
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh, hope TM, Nels and Rzl are having a great evening, and the curry has turned out well and the wine is going down easy:beer: !!!!!!

    Evening folks

Congratulations to the peeps with the weddings. Its my wedding anniversary on the 16th July - can't believe its been two years already

Yesterday at work a girl was totally slagging off the village where I got married (she didn't know this at the time) as another girl is going there for a wedding on Saturday. The reason for slagging it off is because apparantly its rough (she has never been there) and it has a prison (obviously all the prisoners are just out and about mixing with the locals at weddings).

It was so funny tho' when I told her that not only was I married there but also most of my friends and sister live there, its where I went to school and it's safe to walk the streets without getting mugged/beating up. She didn't know where to look or what to say :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Today has been quite busy. Thursday off as usual. Weekly shop done this morning. Home early as last day of school here and early finish at 1 o'clock.

Done a load of washing which is still hanging up to dry. Cleaned and tidied all of kitchen.

Have tidied up remainder of house and the cleaning/dusting/hoovering will be done tomorrow.

Check list is done for holiday gear. We are not away for another two weeks but this way I know what is still needed and have time to get organised. 7 more work days :j :j :j

Just watching a bit of tennis now - don't really understand it but like to see how Andy Murray is getting on.

Will probably retire to bed soon and catch up on Big Brother.

then DD has a dentist appointment, she has a cavity! I don't know what more I can do, I know the dentist won't believe me but she has sweets only twice a week, no fizzy drinks, plenty of calcium in her diet and brushes her teeth twice a day, I think I'm doing all I can do, she only has well watered down squash in the day and water as a bedtime drink. I hate dentists and I'm so worried I am going to pass my fear on to her :(
Moggins, I have exactly the same problem with my children's teeth. Dentist never believes me, either, and I get the same lecture about sucrose. Maddening!

Got to go, DH taking me to the pub.

"Start the day" - eep, I'm about to collapse in a heap and go to sleep ... the beauties of time zones huh!

Drive home not too horrendous, M4 it's normal nasty self, but hey!

Completely non-OS today as been in to the office - actually, I did manage to take a tea bag with me and boiled the kettle, hence saving 60p, but erm .. that'd be about it!

Got given a bottle of Cava as a "thank you"

    Night all.
