The harsh truth about Tory policies

  • Theres a very long straight, around a mile or so, with excellent visibility on one of the country roads I drive regularly. It's absolutely safe to pass, there are no turnings onto it at all, and it is surrounded by wide open fields with excellent visibility and all fenced to prevent animals wandering onto the road. It is the only spot on the road for miles around where it is absolutely safe to pass slow traffic, and in my 20 years of driving this road I have NEVER seen an accident on this stretch. (But dozens on the other bits of the road)

So where does the Scammera van choose to park itself at least twice a month? Looking just like a workmans transit in the layby?

You guessed it. The one place they know they will raise revenue by catching people passing the slow traffic where it's safe, whilst ignoring the areas of the road where passing is really dangerous.

Absolute money grabbing w ankers the lot of them.

Are there any other laws you feel shouldn't apply to you?

Is that the "slow traffic" that's obeying the speed limit?

No,, it's typically the traffic that has been obstructing progress at 45 mph for miles, and then speeds up to 55 or 60 on the one big straight.

    So answer me this, genius.....

If scammera vans are so interested in safety, why not sit at the dangerous parts of roads, instead of the safest parts?

Why not sit at junctions past blind bends, where accidents happen regularly, instead of on mile long straights?

Why hide on bridges on motorways, the safest roads, at 5 am on a bright summer morning?

Now you answer me this one, genius: what's so critical in your life that you have to do 70 on a 60 mph limit road?

Oh and another tricky one for you: would you be happy if they sat at BOTH the so-called "dangerous parts" as well as the "safe" ones? Mmmm let's think now...

Yes, the anti-motorist crowd never seem to have an answer for it.

"Camera vans are for safety. Thats why we call them safety camera vans"

Ok then, so why do they hide behind railings on bridges over the safest and most accident free parts of roads, that also happen to have the most speeders?

And by the way, how much money did you make from speed camera vans last year?

    "Ummmmmmm..... Speed kills, or something"

    I see.....

The UK Government made a net £20,000,000 from speeding fines in 2006-7 IIRC. If it's a revenue raising measure, it's a very poor one.

If the speed limit is too low then raise the speed limit.

On the number of miles I drive a year, adding just 10 mph to the average speed equates to 83 hours per year not wasted in the car.

Thats the equivalent of an extra 2 work weeks per year, being stuck behind muppets who can't drive.

In the case of these country roads, it's more like 20 or 25 mph that passing a slow driver can add, as they often dawdle along at 40mph.

So more like 3 work weeks a year, every year, for the last 2 decades.

How about I tell you to work an extra 3 weeks a year and see how you like it......
