We cannot afford to continue paying benefits to people who are able to work. If there are no jobs for them, then they should work for their benefits. I'm sure there are many things society needs doing, sweeping streets, picking up litter, looking after the elderly, etc.

That's a nice idea Hamish, with 2 main problems. The first is that the government would take an age and a lot of money to get such a system set up - these benefit claimants would effectively become civil servants, with all the associated costs of employment. If they are effectively employed, wouldn't they also have the same rights as employees? I could see the EU getting involved, seeing as they usually have nothing better to do than meddle in our business and cost us money.

The second is what do you do to people who refuse to do the work that they've been assigned to? If the answer is stop their benefits, wouldn't the government be leaving itself wide open to legal action?

I really wish any of the main parties had a vision for this country.

    But they don't.

That's why like Nero, they are happy to tinker round the edges while Rome burns.

Lots of the people who have lost their jobs over the last couple of decades have done so because there is someone else in the world who :-
    - is willing to work for less, or
    - is willing to work longer, or
    - willing to put up with cr*p conditions or abuse down the phone
    - has been told that working and eating are pretty much synonymous

To combat such a situation, as a nation, we have to be :-
    - extremely focussed on a goal
    - single minded
    - devilishly clever
    - cunning and willing to fight our corner to the last.

Does that sound like Broon to you? Or Cameroon for that matter.

    Nope.

    Nope.

Actually it sounds a hell of a lot more like Brown than Cameron.

People don't just have a choice to work or starve do they? If there are no jobs then they can't work, so faced with starving they steal and mug. So yes you may well get pushed in to a corner but the outcome may not be as you expect.
Thats why right wing society also makes sure you have the philosophical equivalent of a f*cking large stick instead of a softly-softly approach to crime punishment.

We need to create more prison places and do it much cheaper. Crap food, crap accomodation, little heating and no TV for the stint inside. Oh, and no legal redress for anything other than an appeal. In other words, no right to redress if the scum think that their "uman rites" have been abused.

Oh, they also need to bring back Borstal for Scum children.

Anyone thinking that there are NO jobs in modern britain needs to think again. There are plenty. Unfortunately, less fortunate and harder working individuals from eastern europe are currently doing the jobs that British citizens should be forced into.

Obesity is a real problem amongst those in poverty.

Which makes you wonder about our definition of poverty, really.....

The obesity epidemic has nothing on the sockpuppet epidemic though...

Having worked in Africa, it is interesting to observe that obese people there (particularly women) are perceived to be rich or at least very wealthy.

BTW, I would say that us paying for people's sex lives, when they have numerous children, solely in an attempt to increase their benefits is clearly unsustainable. Simply put this has to change. Perhaps forced adoption etc. may be an idea, given that so many families are keen to adopt from overseas. OK this will drive some people nuts but something must be done.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Cash bonuses for those electing for permanent sterilisation may be a better use for D of W+P money. Save us a fortune in education.

Aditional benefits only for the first 2 kids and the maximum council house should be 2 bed. None of this 10 bed mansions cr*p in the home counties because you dont know how to use a condom.

    Yes, yes.

Take a peek inside the gas chambers at Auschwitz and see where your 'right wing society' leads...
