  • when im mortgage free i am only going to work part time in care...hospice or care of elderly and going to spend my time helping my kids out. I think thats the bigest change for me it will buy me time to do the things that make me happy.

It seems such along way off till i get debt free, still have a 100k mortgage, 14k secured loan (divorce costs) and 4k of unsecured 0% debt. It must be lovely to spend 6 months in uk in summer and other 6 months abroad in 5 star hotel for winter.

Id like to go back to university part time too to study one of the nhs allied health careers.
  • I'm fortunatly not in much debt (NOW) only £194 on a catalogue. But partner and myself are currently unemployed. I'm almost 60 now so chances of a job are low.
What i dream of is owning my own house. Sadly there is no chance of this happening now unless i win the lottery. And as i don't buy them there is NO chance.
Still i have to remind myself there are plenty worse off. I have lovely children and quite well so it could be a lot lot worse.

I'd like to change my answer in light of the weather.. when I'm debt free I'm having gas central heating put in because it's SOOOOO cold in here!!! I've been freezing this week!! electric costs too much to run all the time.. I even lit a candle yesterday to see if it was all in my head, and maybe looking at a flame would make me feel warmer..

What a lovely thread and nice to read what everyone wants to do after debts have been paid off.

I think my mental well being will be so much better after I've paid my debts off, I just can't wait. I'll have about £400 more a month, to be able to do more things with my bf without him always having to pay for me. Visit family more regularly (they all live in my home country). Go on more holidays and not needing to worry where and if I'll get the money together. Start paying into pension and maybe mortgage one day. Can't really imagine how much difference being debt free would do yet.
    DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!
Proud to have dealt with my debts!
  • I shall be splitting all available disposable income into 2 for 2 purposes:

    1) A baby/house deposit fund
    2) A fund to build up to help clear OH's debts

The sooner he's out of debt, the sooner we can both plough all our disposable income into the baby/house fund and can start trying for a baby and looking for a house.

It's going to feel so unreal after so many years of debt and I think of being debt-free almost daily. Can't wait!
Thrilled to be DEBT-FREE as of 26.03.10 :D

I will buy REAL marmite instead of Tesco own brand yeast extract. I am dreaming of that day!:D

Then I plan to start saving for a house deposit. As many others have said, this journey makes you appreciate what you have and assess what is really important.

Really lovely idea for a thread x
