I'm going to go for a big long walk.. because it's free, and it was spending money that got me in this mess in the first place!!!
and then I'm gonna have an ice cream... and dream about upgrading to a house, so that I can't hear the man in the flat upstairs when he goes for a wee.Debt Free and Very Very Proud! - DMP mutual support member 315

Just out of interest, are any of you planning to get another credit card or overdraft? I'm not, but I'm always worried that when my credit rating picks up the temptation will be there. So much so that I've considered getting a card, buying something for a tenner on it and defaulting!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Wow, this is a great thread. I love the fact that most things are quite simple - family things, holidays and new houses. None of us seem to want to spend the sort of money on "stuff" that we did to get in this position. Just shows how far we have come.
Well, when I have cleared off my debts, I would like to pay off my student loan to the government. I don't count this as a debt as such because it is practically free borrowing and they take the payments automatically. But, paying it off would free up £180 from my wages every month, which I could do a lot with.
Then I would put three months wages in the bank, never to be touched again in case of absolute emergency. Then I would travel (New York and Rome first), save up the 25% deposit needed to get a buy to let mortgage on my flat, save for me and OH to move to the country one day and I would really like to get a part share in a horse, which is my first love.
Ames - I think the opposite, the joy of never having to resort to a credit card for small things again would be enough to keep me out of the temptation!LBM 17th August 2009 Debt at LBM £18,612 Proud to be dealing with my debts.0 -

I've thought about this a bit, and until being unemployed recently was paying a fair amount out each month and was looking forward to not paying that out and saving it for something else, using it to spend on me.
Being more realistic now, when I am in work again and have paid off everything, the money thats been going on debt will go to overpayments on my mortgage so it will be paid off before I retire.
Boring I know, but being single, holidays are not something that excite me.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

I am now obsessed with money as is my wife. I want to keep it, she wants to spend it. I look forward to the arguements that being debt free will create when I say "I want three months spare living money tucked away now and I am putting more into the pension and starting to save for the house deposit"" and she says "I have booked us a holiday to Disneyland, given up my job and no, you can't have your classic ford escort RS2000"Was in debt £23k- Not now (12/07-12/10):T
Did smoke- Not any more (26-02-11):j

I am going to spend within my means and keep my spreadsheets up-to-date.. so I am never in this position again.
I am going to travel but ensure that I have saved towards it beforehand rather than spend on cc's and maybe a massage every now and then.. Bliss!!!

I'm single, but I prefer going away on my own, it means I can do what I want at my own pace. Katy, Rome's one of the places on my list too, but I'm not necessarily waiting till I'm debt free. I'm saving my £2 coins for a holiday, and since I like staying in hostels I'll be able to afford a cheap city break every now and then, I've got enough saved now that I can start looking at Ryanair's sales when they have them.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

When I'm debt free I'll be about £1000 per month better off, leaving me about £1500 a month to do as I wish with! I'll live a comfortable life, probably buy a newer car & take 2 major holidays a year. I also plan to do renovations on my home without needing loans!Debt @ LBM 29/12/08 - £49044!
