Incontinence Service for Children

I need some advice please

I have a 4yrs old DD with Autism, who is still not potty trained and despite 2 years of trying, shows no signs that it is going to happen anyday soon. After several conversations with other parents in my situation I have been told that I might be able to get nappies on prescription.

I only claim DLA MR care and her carer claims carers allowance for her (I dont claim because I have to work full time).

Can anyone point me in the right direction if any?:o

    joyciebird,

Policy on this varies between PCTs. Your GP should be able to refer you to a Continence Specialist, who will be able to advise further.
    Gone ... or have I?

I would be speaking to your GP/health visitor. It might help if you ask to be referred to a continence advisor.

If you can prove that she is suffering incontinence due to her disability and not just a late starter you are entitled to free incontinence pads for age three depending on where you live. But for Austim where at this age she is unlikely to receive them.
:rolleyes:I really wish you would leave well alone, stop giving advice you know nothing about.

i think your ment to buy yourself(even tho i think this is bad) nappy trainering is a bit of a taboo subject, my son was 4 when he was dry in the day and later at night, he has disabilites but the doctors was shocked because of his problems low muscle tone, sleep disorders etc and other stuff when he was dry at night they was shoked, but when he needs to go he needs to go , my other son was done bye 2 day and night, i have freinds who have kids of 6 years who still wet the bed , if i was you i would ring boots and ask if there is a discount, sometimes if your dissabled you can calim the tax back, also i would ask to your dotctor for a presscrimsion soz crap speller, if all fails washable nappys r ok
hope u get it sorted op x

Yes she started in september at a mainstream school, the toilet issue is also written as a need/concern in her SSEN. She receives full time 1 to 1 support.

  • They only give nappies out for children with severe/profound learning disabilities...

And children with Autism cannot have severe or profound learning difficulties can they not!!!!
