Just past the 75% paid point!!!:j Nationwide payment just went in for this month. £6844 of debt left to pay!

I remember being thrilled when it went under the 20k mark, that feels like ages ago now.

    Hi Andy,

I have I think been whats called lurking on here. I have read your thread with interest and must commend you on doing so well to get your debts down in such a short period of time. I wish I had your salary and parents to move in with. Although, you love your parents and it's cheap to live at home it must feel like a backward step and restriciting, but at least your getting on with it.

Today I read the thread you had posted about your girlfriend I must say you did get some harsh comments which I found strange. Obviously you have to maintain the relationship with your girlfriend whilst you pay the debt off which in turns makes it take longer to clear the debt. I feel that all you can do is proceed with paying the debt off as quickly as possible and then see what your girlfriend has to say regarding how and when you progress with your relationship. She has some insecurties and worries the true source of which can't be fully addressed until you are debtfree (which doesn't mean to say you can't discuss them now) but until then it's like, I'd like this...' 'I hope for that...' 'In the future...'

Anyway keep going you are nearly there.

I'm back from holiday!!! Had a lovely week down in the new forest with the GF, we must have cycled over 80 miles in all. Visited some lovely pubs for dinner and seen plenty of horses and deer. Managed to stick to budget too, £200 each spending money for 7 days. We did have quite a few dinners out so that took most of the budget.

She mentioned a while back now about wanting us to go visit her sister in Norway in October, it was a long shot that I'd be debt free by then, and I've been a little concerned about the cost anyway. We spoke about it yesterday and I've told her I'm not going. She's going to go with her Mum instead. She says she respects me more for saying no and telling her straight than if I'd gone and then said I couldn't really afford it. so I'm really happy I've told her now, I would have loved to go, but that fact is, I've got debt to pay off and will enjoy travelling so much more when I actually got the money instead of feeling guilty that I should have paid off debt with it.

Wow, what a busy week! I went bowling on Sunday night, then taekwondo training on Monday and Tuesday night, then went to Paris on Eurostar on Wednesday night with work and didn't get back till midnight last night!!!

Really want to just go visit the GF now (even though she seems really not-bothered about everthing).

Just got my pay come in, so I've made an £850 overpayment to my natwest loan, bringing my total debt down to £5994, which feels amazing! To think it started at over £27k!! Hopefully I can make another overpayment before payday this month, another few hundred would be nice, need to get my stuff on ebay then I suppose, but even with just the regular loan payments, it'll go down by another two hundred and fifty quid this month anyway, so I'll owe around 5750 within a few weeks anyway, then before I know it, under 5k left!!!

Had a great weekend, my GF's very down about family matters right now, but we're okay as a couple. We visited her Mum and had a nice day out yesterday. We've decided to plan a holiday to australia next year. Next October or November. That's about a year after my DFD, so should be no problem and will be the first holiday I'll have had for a long time where I've not been in debt, so will really be able to enjoy it.

Still feel really good about my debt figure, being under 6k is brilliant, going under 20k feels like ages ago now, and to think it started at over 27k!!! Just goes to show that it can happen, it's a long road, but you get there in the end.
