Debt free and buy a house by 35

  • Time for an update....

I now have a cash ISA!!! First time I've ever had any type of savings! :-)

We've also switched to fully joint accounts for both our short term savings and current account. Going well so far, but only done it for a few weeks so let's see how it goes in the long term.

We've got a savings goal for moving house and this is what our short term savings is for. Other than that we are saving £600 a month into our ISA's with the aim of never spending any of it and treating it like retirement savings.

Also, I've obviously changed my ways, and can prove it. I got a refund of £500 from the HMRC for overpaying national insurance when I was classed as self employed a few years back. I'm putting it straight into my ISA instead of treating myself. The old me would have bought something with the money, but my first reaction now was to save it. Which is cool, it proves I've changed! :-)

Small update for those still subscribed to my diary.....

We moved house two months ago. It never would have happened if I hadn't cleared my debts, our marriage is still good, we just had our first year anniversary and celebrated by going back to Cornwall for a week, where we had our honeymoon.

My ISA is building up, slowly each month and it still feels great to be out of debt (even though the saving interest rates are awful!!!!)

I've had a thought that I'd like to write this diary down as an ebook, and add some more details and some of the insights into debt free living I've gained over the last four years. I'll post a few previews of the book as I write it here. I need a catchy title so any ideas would be welcomed.

It's not going to be a guide to getting out of debt, more of a story on how I did it, and what I felt helped me, in a hope that it may inspire others to push harder to clear their debts. Debt free living is possible and I feel like telling my story.
