I'm pretty furious about the money donations to Liz Jones, following her article.
It's beyond sick imo, when real deserving charities could get the money. There was a banner ad on ebay yesterday asking for just 40p which would help give shelter to help young homeless people in England/UK.
She's lived pure consumerism for years and made her own way to where she is now. I'm pretty sure she has many more options available to her other than implying she really needs public assistance with debts - with hints of suicide.
Hardly our faults she decided to stretch to new really fancy house, at the top of the market (prior to this farm). Can't have Liz living in anything less grand, downsizing a little - she'll imagine it's something like a vile hostel in comparison to the high living she so obviously deserves. But, hang on a minute. Is it fair that I (so many of us?) should be punished for wanting a roof over our heads and an alternative to a pension? I am fed up with homeowners taking the brunt.
Yes, my London house made me £500,000 in 18 months, but these 'profits', for normal people like you and me, are merely relative, unless we don't buy another house and merely move into a (privately owned, local authority financed) hostel.
Haven't I, by moving twice in the past two years, paid £100,000 in stamp duty into Government coffers, on which I had already paid 40 per cent in income tax? OK, so Britain is built on debt, but if we all stop shopping, won't the economy go pear-shaped? Have the powers-that-be changed their minds?0 -

I didn't wait for a certain age. Got started early and kept going.0

OMG what a column. It was clear she was sliding downhill quickly. The best thing she could do now is take herself off, even if at her own expense, check in somewhere and get a reality check.
If she can't afford that, sell the house and take up the offer on the room in the flat in Kennington. It will give a valuable insight on how real people live even though I fear she won't stick it past one night as she'll find something not to her taste: road noise, 8 year old carpet, own brand beans in the cupboard or something. Liz, you need a wake up call, fast. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Don't think she'd hear the call. She'll just carry on lurching from crisis to crisis. If someone designs their life for maximum misery - i.e. with such perfectionist, 'entitled' standards that there's no way they could ever be met - then I assume they enjoy misery and complaining. However unconsciously.
Leave her to it. Bored now.0 -

I wonder if she's declared this extra income to the taxman?;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Whilst I tentatively agree, it is too profitable for her to give up now...
From an alternative perspective, if it really is as bad as she says, anyone else wondering about an employers duty of care for the wellbeing of their employee? What is the apaper doing to support her? (Unless they are well aware it is all boolsheet)? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I do have sympathy for her in a way. OK she has been daft but how many other daft people have we got? I know some who for one reason or another that at the time seemed OK and then it all goes horribly wrong. Circumstances change.
I see a lot of it happening at the moment. Very depressing. We have had 10 years of madness imho not the least in hpi. Even Brown seemed to think that we would just keep growing. Cheap lending, low irs, not something that in the last 50 years has the UK experienced and changed peoples attitudes.
Now in truth things have changed and from people I know the change has been in some cases frightening. I know too many businesses that are seriously struggling. I have seen a number of " big " players in my field go under. I have friends who have worked very hard gone under and some on the knife edge.
Folk like me that had done quite well are having it tough, lots of them. Also, when younger, I lived up to that income but getting badly burned after the last recession I did hold back.
I know this isn`t Liz Jones position but think about folk I know. Some had sunk everything into a business to see it wiped out. Some struggling with debt they used to expand ( and employ ) now with tougher banking and way less demand are trying to seek a way out.
When Ms. Jones talked about suicide it makes me very sad. In my life I have known a few.0 -

When Ms. Jones talked about suicide it makes me very sad. In my life I have known a few.), but because it was quite on topic to the board (you know, debt junkie, bought at peak with a sub prime morgage and so on) but rumours are flying that she has made most of it up and she is just writing it for the hell of it....and to earn even more £££.
I find the animal tales a nice, easy downtime read but still think LIR's and tometerms animal tales are far, far better....and davesnaves smallholding stories.
The digital spy thread seems to have a mate of hers on it defending her too....plus a scan of pics of the farm...including a 3k fridge..she says she has no fridge.
So, could be that much of it is just made up or the level of debt is real but there is a big publishing wedge coming her way that will knock it out in one go.....so she just has a temporary cashflow problem.
Apparently she was on a spa weekend the week before the 'no money' article came out. Could have been a journo freebie though.
So the thread may have been based on a writers imagination rather than a real life....which makes me feel a bit 'had'.
I agree with the certain age thing...I think I am going a bit odd too....perhaps I am on my own too much.:)0 -

The flattery on this board is not good for one's ego.:o Overinflated by people's kindness here I felt inspired to show some stuff to someone I know and was brought very roundly down to earth:rotfl:0
