For trains, I use virgintrains.co.uk - you can easily/instantly see if buying two singles is cheaper than one return, which is sometimes is. Also, keep an eye out for a first class upgrade, they're often in there at just £15 a time.
You must have a clue when you'll be back ... say "between 6 and 9", in which case, check out fixing a price for the after 9 ticket and use the 'savings' to treat yourself to a cheap pub meal instead of going straight home at a higher price.
I just checked the prices... it's cheaper for you to get a return to London, a journey of an hour, than it would have been for me to go just 5 miles by taxi this week (an exercise in checking out how much it would cost me (time and money) to get from here to somewhere by my car -v- public transport or taxi. £16 to go 5 miles.... outrageous I thought... cost me £2 in my car. Buses would have meant I had to leave home 2 hours earlier and get home 2 hours later too. Public transport's rubbish.0 -
D'you think one Sunday when she's short of subjects for her column, LJ will start on the 22-page thread about her on MSE and how we're all a bunch of big meanies and don't understand the travails of the pampered overpaid bankrupt?0

I very much doubt she will as there is a 100 (yes honestly I'm not exaggerating) thread on the Digital Spy forums which is unbelievably vicious and hilarious. Makes this thread look very tame with only 22 pages.

Back to the train fare thing... It seems wrong to discuss train fares without pointing to Martin's article on them. He was discussing these on this week's Watchdog.

There are a couple of very interesting comments on the "I love London" article. One says she lives a mile or two away from Liz and that she is far from being in a remote and almost inaccessible spot.
Another says she knows the house Liz bought and used to visit there - before Liz bought the place it was nice and far from derelict etc.
The more I read her writing, the less it makes sense.
It's like an addiction and a car crash, I want so much to stop reading this absolute drivel she pens, yet someone posts a link and I'm on it like flies on sh(liz jones writing)it.

there is a good reason why you are asked for your date of birth at the doctors / dentist / bank etc - there is probably more than one person with the same name , they are not interested in how old you are !! and how are you getting to your harley street dentist ? you told us in great detail on sunday about how you have no money for petrol or food . how did you get to , or pay for , your luxury spa day ? you have no money , and you hate spas. every article you write is contradicted by another one . you hate men , you want a man . you hate london , you want to go back there . you spent 3 thousand pounds on a designer fridge last year , now you don't have a fridge . you are a hard line vegan , you love leather shoes and bags . you spend endless amounts on beauty treatments , but the second a man gets within a mile you run away . make your mind up what you want
Good comment re an article from a few days ago

So...the jist of Digital spy thread was we are being 'had' here and she is playing it all up as she has to have something to write about that will engage her readers....and keep them coming back for more.
So did Micheal die? We have to wait for next weeks column....and now I know why I don't watch soaps, never have....it's like a mild addiction and a wanting to know 'what next?'' feeling.
I might have to give it up....but it's so nice to be distracted from my own everyday stuff.:o0 -
I only read the last page on that thread and it linked to todays column where her lovely (meant genuinly) Micheal, the rescue dog, was trampled to death by the horses. It then posted a pic of her and all 4 dogs from her blog dated 5th May....may have been an old pic?
wow. quite sadistically written that particular column. i mean to start with the joys of spring and all her hopes beginning to come to life. and then just end on the dog being killed, with no emotional response. quite well paced to leave you wondering at the meaning of it all. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
That poor, poor dog.
The big training stables, colleges and the like, have signs every where saying something like ''Horses are unpredictable animals''. Things like this certainly can happen (one of the reasons with young horses, as opposed to my old girls) I would fence off foot paths, less for the horses than for the walkers. A particular plight exists with pretty ponies, where small girls come from miles ago just wanting to feed the horse and my heart aches when I have t ask them to go, or not to enter with out me there and a parent to give permission: because that kid was once me. But even the most knowledgeable horse person has had or seen a kick, a bite, or just a ''stampede'', more common though is a spook, something that makes the horse jump just a few feet to the side....maybe a bird in a hedge, or a leaf flicking up in the breeze...and a horse weighing 3/4 of a tonne still jumps to the side, even if a person weighing considerably less is there.0
