So why's that? They're only driven by potential profits. Is the human nature that hungers for such rubbish changing?

Not completely sure. I was in my car & caught a report on the radio that they'd announced this. I'm kinda paraphrasing, but they were looking to move away from the ghost written stuff, focussing more on people who have actually written the books themselves. I think it may also be a reaction to customer malaise about the plethora of so many of them, with too many z-listers.
I should imagine those that indulge in such [STRIKE]loopaper[/STRIKE] literature have realised how badly they are written and are thinking they can write and sell the same. I shuddered in typing literature in the same way I shudder when someone tells me they know ''loads'' about ''the pyramids and that'' an the source of their education are the many varied and wonderful documentaries I understand sky provides on such subjects.

Also, why is there so much tv stuff about Hitler?

    Agree wholeheartedly with para 1.

Regarding Hitler, a lot of it can be compulsive viewing, and give initial information about how the bloke was able to manipulate a whole nation. A lot of historical documentaries can be very informative, & lead to further reading.

I recall the Kenneth Branagh tv film (the solution, final solution?) which depicted the meeting where the nazi's settled on the idea of gas chambers. Very interesting to see how they progressed from a starting point through to the conclusion. & quite chilling too.

I recall being on a course for managers/how to manage. It was a 3 day course, so we stayed on site. I took the book I was reading at the time. It was Hugh Trevor Roper. Fascinating book, but it caused some raised eyebrows, & numerous jokes about what my management style would be like!

Books by the likes of Katie Price are popular with teenagers. I just hope they don't read them as aspirational. She hooks em young does Jordan, even writes sparkly pink girly books for eight year-olds.

As for the Hitler issue, I think they made a lot of new programmes for the 65th anniversary. The WW2 in colour programmes were fascinating. Somehow seeing Hitler speak with all of the blood red flags with jet black swastikas on made the whole thing even more horrific for people like me who didn't know much about the more in depth details of the war beforehand.

Jordan, along with these other z-listers have a lot to answer for. If they hadn't got so many book deals, perchance many of our youngsters would actually be reading something more relevant than the drivel they spout. I used to say I would never burn a book on principle. I have changed that view....

& don't get me started on those blooming Painful lives books....:mad:
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I think I should possibly use that as my sig, Sue - " I actually quite like Carolt.." - now that's a ringing endorsement, if ever I heard one. :)

I "quite like" you too, sweetie.

Thank you. I shall have to work out how to add a sig at this rate - but maybe not naming Sue, as it would be unfair to drag her into all the flak I get. ;)

    How true.

I see you're full of seasonal cheer, as always.

Out of interest, what made you return? Had you run out of people to insult in the real world?

BTW, if you're bored, I suggest you do a search for your name on here. Don't take my word for the esteem in which you're generally held on here.

Go on, you know you want to. :)

Sorry Carol, I shan't do a search for my name on here - you're clearly more interested in ME than I am!:rotfl:I'll let you waste your precious hours on stuff like that. And unlike you, Carol, I actually HAVE a real world. YOU clearly don't - which is why you spend every second of the day on here!

You should go out sometimes- it would do you good. Brush away the cobwebs and all that!

You, I have always pictured as a slightly mad maiden aunt surrounded by cats and empty gin bottles. Pen in hand, inkwell, overflowing with vitriol, by your elbow.

To get this back on topic, this is probably an uncannily accurate description of Liz Jones herself.
