This might sound a stupid question, but could someone please explain Reusable Nappies to me?? I was intending on buying disposables, and I am really not good with anything toilet related so I was going to just bag up dirty nappies and put them outside, however OH has decided he wants reusable, he said something about his mum telling him theres a liner that catches all the bad stuff, and you flush this down the loo? Then you wash the rest of it as and when needed. He reckons the re-useable bits stay pretty clean (which I cant c happening).

Also, how much do these cost? And do they come as a kit with lots? Or do you buy it seperate? Sorry I just want to know as I will be the one dealing with most of this!!

I'm investigating nappies at the moment too. With DS I used reusables and fully intend to this time round again. You can go for the perfectly fine basic cheapies. Mother-ripoff do a kit of terry nappies plus everything you'll need to go with them (bucket for soaking, pins, plastic pants etc) for about £35 which means you'll be able to get them much cheaper elsewhere (but I've yet to work out where). You can buy disposable liners which are actually amazingly good at catching everything and you can just flush these down the loo or put in the bin. This leaves you with the towelling squares to wash. You soak them in a bucket until you have enough for a washer load, put your rubber gloves on and a peg on your nose (the wee gets quick smelly) and shove them through the wash. Some people say you need to boil them but I really don't agree.

Using reusables is very easy once you're into the routine of it and Martin would definitely approve :money:

These days, and this is what I'm investigating currently, there's a lot on the market wich seem to be nicer but are a lot more pricey. The plastic pants you use with the terry nappies made my DS's legs really sore after a while so I think the posher ones will be more comfortable

    Hope that helps :D

We've got the angelcare movement sensor on pigpen's recommendation :) I looked at the tommee tippee one as well but a lot of people seem to feel very strongly about the angelcare one which is what swayed us. We tried it out last week and the sound monitor bit is lovely and clear as well. If you keep checking on amazon the price is often comparable, or within £10 of the TT one, which IMO is worth it as the actual sound monitor appears to be much better.

Yay for the pink scan lolly! I think that's 4 pink scans in 2 days! Have barksavingmad and choccy been on recently? They seem to have gone awol! Hope they aren't queue jumping me lol

It is advised by most nappy manufacturers that you don't boil wash them.. it breaks down the elastic and reduces the life span.

I've used cloth for 6 of my 8 and intend using them this time too. I use totsbots nappies.. take nappy off.. empty poopy liner in the loo and flush and put the napy in the bucket. If it is just wet I wash the liner too and reuse that as well. I used popo wraps with my others.. and got most excited when I found a stray one in my ebay stash the other day.

I used terry squares with the popo wraps a fair bit too.. I also dyed some to funky colours.. after seeing the bright bots ones.. I evenmade some of my own which worked really well too.. and looked much funkier than the plain ones!

    Congrats on team pink Xmas!
CAFC: I love ebay but have to admit the postage always puts me off. Have found some real bargains on there but I am the same as I can’t travel to collect stuff, as with freecycle, there is never anything for sale within my area, its always all over the UK and as I live in Mid Wales these days it restricts me.

Received my parcel from ASDA this morning; I ordered a ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ sleepsuit with matching bib, stripey monkey sleepsuit with matching hat and a fleecy orange and black striped ‘Tigger’ suit! OH will love these, especially the Tigger suit as we both love Tigger, lol.

I also ordered a comfort blanket with teddy and a towel and mitt. The items are excellent quality, all with lovely embroidery; I am very pleased with everything. Just gota wait for my Pumpkin Patch order and then the rest will be off Ebay/ boot sales (mother is going this weekend with a list, complete with pics I have cut out of things I want, it looks like a little scrap book lol).

Thanks for the advise Courgette and Pigpen re: nappies. I am still not hugely keen on reuseables, I cannot cope with the smell of wee/poo at all (and I'm having a baby! :D ) and I jus think if I am soaking them in the house it will make me throw up, plus also our house is v small!
