you dont have to be put out for an emergency one, but it really does depend on the reason for the section. Generally the epidural or spinal is given so that you are completely numb from the waist down but still have full control of your upper half. What else would you like to know ?? I have had 2 !!

I will have to ask my sister more about this when i next see her, really interested now! She's had three, the first one was the emergency one then the next two were planned. I have this fear of being cut open, but she insists it was fine. Then again she looked a bit sick/ill when i told her about my damage downstairs!

I just know I'm going to freak if baby doesn't belt out a huge cry within seconds.. But then Rhys came through 24 very long minutes of nothingness so who knows.. And yes, I know, I know, statistically and all that, but it doesn't stop me mulling it over.. :p

Keely, have you seen the Santa thing at Dudley zoo? It's £5.50 for adults and £8 for children... Includes full entry to the zoo, plus all the santa extras, we're taking Aimee this year :)

Oh no, i hadn't. Do you have any details on it? or a link maybe? I was wondering where to take Elliot to see Santa :)

  • keely, it is possibly one of the strangest sensations I have ever felt, but really is fine !! Well the emergency one, I had a tough time after, but the planned one was grand, I was up and about the next day and felt back to complete normal after about 6 or 7 days

What I dread is a c-section awake next time.. _pale_ I wonder on what basis I could get the wake-me-up-when-it's-all-over option again..

Ya know, I always said "wake-me-up-when-it's-all-over".. I didn't actually mean it!

You remember what I was like when pregnant with Amber? I did not want a c section at all. But when it got to that point, I did what was best for the both of us. It wasn't as bad as I imagined.

Considering what was going on on the other side of the room while they were stitching me up, it's a bl00dy good job I wasn't awake! :o That's what scares me..

It's nothing to be proud of, but out of curiousity, am I the only one here to have had a GA for a c-section?

No, I had a GA for Christopher, then didn't wake up for 3 days afterwards. I'm also glad I missed what else went on in that room, and in the days afterwards. Feel sorry for Dh though, he saw it.
My c/section was a relative emergency one - it would have happened sooner but I'd had lunch and they had to wait six hours post-food before they could give me the appropriate anaesthetic! I only had a spinal block, not a GA. The best thing for me was that I walked into the operating theatre, and within 10 minutes of walking in, Andrew was safely out of my body and in the medics' care. But it did seem all a little surreal. And the anaesthetists' jokes, although they did distract me, were really bad :rotfl:

They took the risk with me and put me under even though I had eaten half an hour before my abruption.

    Hi all!

Safely ensconced back home after a long journey home involving a taxi and 4 different trains (one of which now goes at 186mph apparently! That's fast!) and 6 hours or so.

Bruges was quite a nice town if you are after a bit of culture, a lot of tourist-support, and old architecture/cobbled streets. It was pretty (spoiled slightly by the constant rain and cold. While googling the weather forecast one night I came across the following quote: "Even by Belgian standards, Bruges has a poor reputation for its weather. Compared to other western European cities like London and Paris, the weather in Bruges is colder and more damp.").

However, between the weather, the obligatory nappings, and a degree of stress thanks to Elijah's discombobulation at new circumstances, we didn't really do a lot. The spa in the hotel cellar was nice, the Chocolate museum was ok, OH loved the touristy horse-and-cart ride and the hot chocolate, but ugh staying in a hotel with a toddler was hard work. In retrospect I would do something different with that much money, but I think OH was happy so I guess it counts!

I am sorry because I have skimmed the thread a couple times over the last few days and collected assorted things I would've replied to, but I no longer remember most of them :( I am hesitant to start naming any names because inevitably I would leave some people out.

I will just say poor you AM, it doesn't rain but it pours - I hope baby sickness and eye clear up fast at least, to leave you free to concentrate on sorting out accommodation and important things! And, 3, what an unpleasant situation to be in, houseful of sick people always awful, I shudder to imagine it when most of them are children who NEED YOU ! And SS, fingers crossed for your OH, must be a horrible position to be in, when they decided to keep him in did they say when the next steps would be, or next review, or anything like that?

Oh one other thing about Bruges, oh my GOD the restaurants are expensive. Not "because they're great", although some were clearly pretty good, but apparently just because it's Bruges. Even venturing off well away from the tourist centre, every restaurant was advertising its 14 and 18 Euro mains without fail - in town it was 35+ for a set menu everywhere, potentially a lot more if you picked what you wanted! This extended even to bad places - a rainy lunchtime kebab takeaway I grabbed was 6 Euro for something that would've been 3 quid here.

Anyway - given up naming names so I hope everyone is basically ok and if they are not that they post about it here and get some support and encouragement!

Assorted expenses commenting people, I know this doesn't work for everyone and all circs, but have you thought about taking out a specific additional credit card for those expenses? It makes it clean and simple, means you get an interest-free period where you can get work to settle with you, and you can even then collect membership rewards/cashback/whatever while working.

    Hmmmmm.
Your one-month-old may gurgle, coo, grunt, and hum to express her feelings now. Be sure to coo and gurgle back, and talk to her face-to-face. A few babies may also begin early squeals and laughter.

Paranoid momma mode. Andrew's 14 weeks but 3 weeks corrected. And the only noises he makes is when he cries or chunters in his sleep, I'm not getting any coos, gurgles, grunts or hums.

And my uncle does this with his expenses, my Aunt is trying to get him to move to a cash back credit card so they can enjoy additional perks too...
