I love buffet dinners. Last year, we ordered a load of M&S Food for a party, which was then cancelled. OH and I had a bit of a pigging out. Hehe.

  • Feely I had similar problems weaning jake, he just wouldnt tolerate anything other than the dried cereal packet food, up until 9-10 month ish or so, I wish I was more laid back at the time as the HV made me feel awful over it and its not done him any harm in the long run it just took a little longer than most. He literally would throw up if he ate 'real' food and the HV was telling me it was pyschological.
Jasmines such a different baby and will eat anything I put in front of her!

In fact when i first found out I was pregnant with Jasmine that was one of the first things I thought about, I was dreading the weaning stage!

Not really sure what to advise but they do get there eventually they just all have their own timescale I suppose!

feelie since erin got the tummy bug she refuses to eat, i can get her to eat yoghurts but apart from that she will open her mouth and spit it right back out??? i actually wondered if she had a sore throat or mouth but when tried with a chocolate button she managed without a problem lol!!
at the moment she is living on 7 x 8oz bottles a few yoghurts and toast, not ideal but we try her at every meal time and if she refuses we dont make a big deal and take it away.

  • MFD, it seems to be a very deliberate spitting things out. He used to have the tounge thrust (made giving calpol tricky!) but he can swallow things. He loves chewing, but once he has chewed something, he prefers to spit it out than swallow it. That said, most of the oatcake has gone down the hatch. He is an odd baby when it comes to feeding isn't he? He seemed to reach all the milestones ages ago, and can pick peas up and get them in his mouth, but swallowing is another matter! Wonder if it is related to the weak suck/poor latch? HV just said to keep giving him baby rice. I've tried him with stage 1, 2 and 3 things to see if we had more success, but not really. He can bite off and swallow big chunks of carrot (can't seem to digest them, they come out the same). He only eats maybe 2-3 teaspoons of food a day, if that. He can also get the spoon into the bowl, scoop up stuff and get it in his mouth. Strange boy!

Oh, he also has a habit of keeping things in his mouth. Am I supposed to fish the big chunks in his mouth out after a certain time? I first discovered this when I went to change him half and hour later and he choked! If it was tongue thrust, would he keep stuff in his mouth?

Sounds like he is just a strange child ;):D You're right, it doesn't sound like tongue thrust.

Try not to make too much fuss. If he keeps food in his mouth for a long time then remove it if you can - I had to do this with a load of broccoli that Benjamin was storing at lunchtime! He also eats 2 or 3 quarters of pear and then I fish out all 3 skins! So I started peeling it for now.

The more fuss you make, the more likely it is to become a problem in the future. Why not try to stick to what you know he likes for 2 meals a day and use the 3rd (prob best at lunch) to try new things.

It must be frustrating, but he does need something, so keep trying :A

Edit - thanks SM - am looking now xx

I knew I should have posted sooner, after having 2 teaspoons of puree (he did not like that much, he tried chewing it!) he has a bit of cheesy oatcake, chewed on a chunk of pepper and is munching on apple.

He seems to enjoy food, I just get a bit worried when he doesn't eat much. I think the messiness bothers me too. Doesn't help that I have no bib or highchair! I've got a sheet on the floor and a muslin tucked in his neck.

I've washed my one outfit and it is drying overnight so hopefully I won't be wearing jammies tomorrow.

Thanks for all the reassurance and advice. I don't want food to become a big deal.

Searching, that brought back a lot of memories. I used to drink a lot of Tia Lusso, and a lot of Baileys. How many calories in a litre bottle!
