elle, hello! Are you still feeling a little quiet? We miss you :)

can I ask a boring question of your work brain?

When employers need to respond to a request for flexible working arrangements within 28 days legally, do you happen to know if that's 28 real days or is it 28 working days excluding any statutory closing.

But no, I don't just love you for your HR knowledge I promise :):o

Thankyou for asking lovely but honestly there's nothing wrong.. just don't feel like uttering inane drivel for a change and have nothing interesting to say so I'm just quiet.. Anyway..

I don't know for certain what the legal limit is but I know we'd work to 28 real days, particularly as the company I work for is a manufacturing, 24/7 production type so even though work stops for the office staff for the weekend, the process guys carry on (they work 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off plus longer breaks rather than in weeks). Not sure that helps!

Am off out to my mum's for tea now.. :D

I think I have it quite easy compared to a lot of you, but then I don't have any burdens, like mortgage (I wish!) or a car.

I moan about being poor but I guess I'm not, though I'd say it was hard when we were on the dole for a bit!

Back from Tesco, got calpol and some cough stuff free from the chemist bit, because I remembered a thread on MSE about the Minor ailment scheme for kids (maybe adults too) in Scotland (not sure if anywhere else) as long as the person is there, so got that free :D Also got my sister Ellie a moxie girl for Xmas, saw it on the grabbit board earlier, I got the last one, would of liked the whole set though, and perhaps one for Keira. £20 down to £5! Bargain tastic

Oh yes and Keira stole some sweets, well not really, I forgot she had them in her hand as I took the toy car trolley thing so I couldn't see her, and I forgot I gave it to her to hold, lol.

She's very poorly, coughed so much earlier she puked a lil bit.

you're a great role model mel, all your 4 will be ambitious hard-workers I know :)

Is it DHs illness and meds or he just hasn't found his niche in life? Although not unambitious, my DH hasn't got as much 'drive' as me. I think men who are quite laid back are often attracted to women who are go-getters and vice versa. A bit like a way of balancing it out in each other.

My DH often says if we are a car, then I am the engine and he is the breaks :rotfl:

Hugs anyway, cos it sounds like you're very frustrated with his inertia at the moment. :(

I love your insights, Weezl! I agree with you, for what it's worth. Oh and I are the same (although like your OH he's not unambitious, not just as driven as me sometimes).

I was also disappointed by Kirsty. Not really frugal and a bit of a cop out, although I do like the idea of salt dough letters and plan to make some for Henry's room.

The wrapping is going well though, but I think I have a few more pressies to buy .

Sure, I'd be up for a meet. Where is it going to be? Children welcome? I love how Keira gets on the train for free :)

Not sure yet! Children always welcome. So far its me (Bo'ness), Rmac (Edinburgh), Tia (Ayr) and hopefully Fitzio (Lanark) so not sure where is kinda central for everyone?

I just asked if anyone fancied it - glad to see someone is keen! Perth sounds a good mid-point and has transport links for those on trains and those in cars. Does anyone know perth i.e. a baby friendly place to meet up? the only thing I know is the swimming pool with the semi-outdoor pool:rotfl:

We hadn't got to a date or anything..... and of course it would be children too :D Definately once all festivities were out of the way...perhaps mid Feb time?

ooh weezl can i jump on your question too? I want to request flexibe working too. i askedf my manager at work who said to put it in an email. now she is renowned for sitting on emails and doing nothing about them. if they have not replied within 28 days what happens then? do you automatically get the request granted?

Sorry - realised you were asking elle!

Will answer when I get back, but you might find the answer here :)

Pink pig, sadly I don't think it does mean an automatic yes, cos otherwise at least 2 people I know have been illegally treated already :( But maybe you could write saying 'since I have not heard to the contrary within the statutory framework, I shall assume my request is acceptable to you and make my childcare arrangements in the light of this new working pattern.' Should at least put a rocket up your tardy boss :)

This is how me and OH are. He is qualified and has a good 'job' whereas I am more 'career' always wanting to get to the top. Although I'm seriously thinking that if we have another baby I want to be a SAHM.

WOW, I've finally seen what all the fuss is about.

A lovely lady at boobie club this morning let me try out her Kari Me sling. God I want one. It had Kezia asleep in seconds and allowed us to have lovely cuddles all the time. Another lady there said that she had a Moby sling which is 'just as good'. Now, I've been checking them out online as I'm having one (right now if I had my way) but I can't see what the difference is between the Moby and the Kari-Me - apart from about £8.

Can anyone who has seen or used both advise and give a recommendation as to which is best.

Many thanks. I'll go back a bit to try to catch up now whilst Kezia is having a nap. xxxxx
