Welcome Shopaholic, Sarahlou and Debcow.
shopaholic - I've done WW before, and several others have done/are doing it too. I think the trick is to make sure you choose your points wisely, and have filling food choices. Pad out a meal with lots of veggies or salad, and make your carbs more complex (wholegrain/wholewheat), as your body takes longer to digest them, so they keep you feeling fuller for longer. Plan your day's meals in advance, and make up low point snacks like sugar-free jelly, and make sure you have plenty of fruit to hand. Also make sure you don't have anything 'naughty' to hand, that might blow your daily intake. Do you have a time of day you feel hungrier? For me that's late morning and the afternoon, so I have porridge for breakfast, and have my lunch as well as a mid-afternoon snack. I have a curfew of not eating after my evening meal, only hot drinks, so that I train myself to not expect to eat again after that.
Sarahlou - I've done Slimfast before, and whilst I got some good initial results, and was able to cope with feeling so hungry initially, I did find that it was that hungry feeling that eventually sabotaged my weightloss. The shakes themselves aren't that bad as a low calorie meal supplement, because they have a low GI (the bars are packed with sugar), but you're having the caramel snack and hula hoops, which although low calorie, are carb triggers, and will give you a sugar 'high', which will be short lived, but then make you want to eat more. They also can't be particularly filling, although I can see that they'd feel like a 'treat'. Why not have something more substantial than that, like a ham salad (make sure any dressing is v.low fat), a poached egg on wholemeal toast, or some fruit and a yogurt? How many calories are you having in your evening meal? Are you trying to keep it to about 600 cals? If you eat a healthy diet, and exercise you will lose weight anyway. As Mazza has suggested, steer clear of alcohol if you can, unless you are not feeling hungry and have the calories to spare.
debcow - why not break that 2 stone down into smaller chunks too? We have a monthly target weightloss that we aim for of 5lb per month. That's basing it on a steady 1-2lb per week loss. Over a year that would have you losing in excess of 52lb! Slow, steady weightloss is proven to be more successful at staying off, and will tie in more with a long-term healthy eating plan, rather than a quick-fix, that is unlikely to last.
heatherberry - welcome to the thread, lots of people on here are on meds that affect their weight, so you're in good company.
We have a chart that all members can be on, and to be included just post your weekly loss/gain/STS (stay the same) in BIG BRIGHT BOLD COLOURS so that whoever is doing the chart - it's fredsnail at the moment - can spot your numbers and put the scores on the doors, as it were.

Thanks for the heads up about the Channel 4 show, I've caught up on the past 2 episodes today on 40n Demand. I thought it was really interesting to see how the ladies each coped with their food choices, given the breakdown into 100 calorie options for their 1200 cals per day. It didn't look like rocket science when you saw how much lean meat and fruit & veg you could get bang for your buck, but they were still tempted by the high fat/cal stuff. I thought it was interesting to see how the party at the weekend really threw some of them, and they went completely off piste drinking too much and eating too much, and then didn't lose, or lost much less, as opposed to those trying to stay on track. I'm glad the lady who gained 2lb the first week, then went on to lose loads the 2nd week. The recipes and diet plans are all up on the channel 4 website. Do you think that noodle soup could have chicken in it instead of prawns, as I don't like fish? Should I leave the fish sauce (that smelled like armpits!! apparently) out too? It did look scrummy. How did they all afford to live on convenience meals? Were they all single?
I've been a bit off piste myself this weekend, lured by the cinnamon bagels that I got for 10p. This shopping on a v.tight budget isn't good for your waistline sometimes. Back to my porridge tomorrow, and have had a damage limitation dinner tonight of baked spud, beans and a quorn grill. Praying for some dry, milder weather to get outside and go cycling in. Very bored of snow now.
Hope you've all had a good w/end guys. Bails I hope you've enjoyed your brief visit back to blighty, and good luck with going to Tibet.
ffm - brilliant result, and just goes to show that it when you get back on track, and get into the zone it really does work.
mazza - meh! Tomorrow is Day 1 again, and you can aim to be better behaved next weekend. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
