The heaters were portable calor gas . amazingly efficient and not at all smelly, which I thought they might be. it wasn't one big marquee but a series of interconnected smaller ones (all borrowed from various free sources) so one for dancing, one for sitting down and eating, one for the drinks ... So the dancing one didn't have a heater, the sitting one had 3 iIthink (and was about 30 feet by 20 feet) -- can't exactly remember.
We had hot food (not a meal but a constant supply of hot nibbles) which were ferrried in from the house and brought around by some 13/14 year olds, dressed in black with white aprons. They really did look like superior waiters but were friends of friends children and very happy to help out for a very samll amount of money ( and quite a lot of the nibbles I think). That helped a lot with the cold weather!0 -

Hi bails - that's a great price for the suits. How many ushers are you having and are you gonna get them to supply you with measurements? OH's brother is gonna be our best man - he lives in oz so curious cos we'll need to get him his kilt here. It'll just be a gilly shirt and poss a big wooly jumper (my strange idea) so that shouldn't be a problem.
Have you heard any news from the farmer?0 -
Hi PepPop, we're having 5 ushers I think (although one may not be able to make it over) and yes, I'm going to ask them for measurements, once I know what measurements you need for a waistcoat (oh, and OH has actually asked them to be ushers!
)
The laptop is back and fixed (fingers crossed!) but it needed an entire reboot so I've lost all my bookmarks, wedding folder etc :rolleyes: but luckily not all our photos etc :j
We sat down yesterday evening and went through the tipi quote and the whole wedding budget for the first time together - it's so nice to have someone to help make the decisions! :T We've managed to shave 2k off our budget which I'm really pleased with, and have even increased some things like the food and tipi budgets so happy with that! We're currently about 600 pounds (my pound sign has gone walkabout in the reboot and I can't find it!!) over 10k so my latest challenge is to get it down to the 10k markI should point out that some things aren't in that budget, and that tipis are NOT a cheap way to go!
We've decided it's not important to us to have 'proper' rings on the day so we're just going to get some cheap silver ones out here and then save up for nicer ones for an anniversary - thanks to whoever suggested that idea! :T
A question of style - you know the mandarin type collar? OH thinks he'd like one on his suit; if he has a waistcoat will this look okay or a bit weird? (we don't exactly move in the world of suits :rotfl:)
As for land, we won't hear any more from the farmer until we get back now, but he seems open to the idea at least. Unfortunately the field behind Mum and Dad's is looking unlikely as a back-up plan as the farmer wants to plant it. There's one more field nearby to ask about but if we don't have a reserve field for worst case scenario, we really can't book the tipisThis may mean we'd have to pay 17.5% VAT but more importantly, that the tipis might not be available by the time we've found a field. We're happy to push the wedding date back to October at the latest if the price makes it really worthwhile, but are not willing to wait longer than that. So a pretty big stumbling block we need to find a solution to...

WOOHOO!! :j:j I've just found a tipi company on our doorstep so that should knock a lot of the delivery/setting up charges off :T And they have LAND!! :j It's based in one of the places that we're already looking at overlooking a lake so could be perfect! Now I just need to find out some prices as they're a new company so their website is still under construction.
