Thanks for the pics PepPop, really sweet of you and I hadn't actually thought of looking for some myself, doh! I have to admit I quite like them there, and OH even said he wanted to wear a cravate last night (from a man who can't even stomach a tie, ever!) What is happening?!

Thanks for all the tipi love :D, just off to see if I've had a reply about them...

Things are progressing here. Tonight OH will email his ushers with an amusing 'how to measure yourself for a waistcoat' Indian clip; we're going to town tomorrow to find some material for OH's waistcoat and get that made as a trial run. OH also wants to get his suit done tomorrow, so we'll be looking at suit designs tonight! How exciting, and when I think of the savings I really swoon :rotfl: We're also on the hunt for our wedding rings.

My parents seem very keen on getting us into a venue. Although I totally appreciate where they're coming from, we want to stick to our guns and have what is really special to us. They even offered to pay for the venue so we don't have to worry - bless them, but I won't be accepting, even if it was our dream venue.

Wedding Dress Fund (WDF) has an extra fiver in it and has now hit a staggering £160 :rotfl: But if I pull this job off I won't need to worry!

    Progress report tomorrow...

Hi bails, stick to your guns - even though it is a lovely offer - it's your day and you have to do it the way you want it. WDF is coming along nicely well done.

Well, it's official, OH and I are perfect for each other - we both HATE shopping! We did make a valiant effort yesterday though, and even though we don't seem to have much to show for it, things are progressing.

We spent ages looking perplexed in suit shops, and have come away with more of an idea of what we like/what might look good. OH is going to chat to his mum about it more tonight first as she has more of a clue about these things than we do and then we'll bite the bullet and either order something now or when she arrives (there'll be time to get it made while we're trekking). The absolute highlight of yesterday was definitely seeing OH in a suit jacket - this is an incredibly rare occurence and it was very moving to imagine him standing there suited and booted on the day :D I told him he looked v sexy and he told me that was very superficial of me, until I uttered the words 'you' and 'lingerie' :rotfl:

Next on the list was wedding rings. We've set ourselves a £60 budget for these now, with a view to saving up for special ones for an anniversary. After looking in many shops (including a near miss with an iron one for OH ), he's having one made for R700 (£5.80). I'm not celebrating on the budget yet in case we don't like it and have to get another one but seems promising...As for mine, the ring I'd seen (for £5 :D) got sold and I can't for the life of me find another one the same  Anyhoo, I have some other designs I like but not in my size so will get one made if we're happy with OH's.

We were seriously exhausted by this point -we find shopping utterly draining - so headed to the climbing wall :D The only other thing we managed was to get some more handmade paper for the invites/thank yous, so at least something else to tick off the list :T

We got chatting to some nice Aussies at the wall and talking adventures cheered us both up :D We also met another couple last night who are getting married but very simply...you do have to wonder if the cost is worth it? When I start thinking of where we could go on the money, it's INCREDIBLY hard to justify... However, if I can get this job (or a job) then we should be able to afford both ;)

Thanks for the support PepPop, we are sure of what we both want for our day and are having a chat with Mum and Dad on Monday to reassure them. I do understand their concerns and to be honest, would rather they were like this than OH's parents' complete lack of interest - they haven't even mentioned the wedding since we told them we'd got engaged!

I've been in contact with the local tipi suppliers - they were very surprised to hear I was calling from Nepal :rotfl: - and so hopefully we'll have a quote from them soon about the tents and land they have. They're a new company and when I asked on the phone about the land, he said he didn't know the price! We're hoping we may be able to negotiate a discount with them as they're so new to the game and don't have much business yet...;)

The money is worth it if you want it to be. Don't spend more than you want to but you only get one shot at a wedding so you need it to be exactly what you want. If that's getting married on £50 thats fine, but if you wanted a big blow out for £30,000 then thats fine too, so long as you have the money obviously! Just make sure the day is what you want it to be.

  • Hi Bails,

Things seem to be progressing nicely. Glad you took onboard the idea of getting the rings for an anniversary later on. It sound romantic!

Just a word of warning re: getting suits made. Make sure you are really really sure about the material before you get the suit made.

We got a suit made for OH in Dubai before our wedding. The intention was to save money and to have it for the wedding day. We got it made and the fit was amazing. However, the material didn't suit OH at all and we ended up running around looking for new suits about 4 weeks before the wedding. To be fair we did it in a bit of a rush so I expect you will have more time to get yours organised!

Hi guys, haven't been about for a bit as been busy with job interview (which I just found out I didn't get :(). At least I have some good news to temper that, as Mum just emailed to say we have a back-up field for the tipis at least :T So this weekend we will compare all the quotes and pick the best one, then book it and email everyone with Save the Dates :D

It's a real shame I won't have a job to go back to though, as the money (the wedding and several other things) is starting to worry me... I appreciate the point you've made though Dinah, very true.

Thanks for the suit advice CMD, I'm waiting til OH's mum arrives next week to help us as I'm not exactly clued up on these things.

Someone mentioned toilets being less than £100 right (can't remember who right now?)? We were quoted £500- £750 by one tipi company - taking the pi$$ literally :rotfl:

How are your plans going PepPop?

Sunshine12, everyone gets altitude sickness at the height of Base Camp, so don't let that put you off. It's worth it ;)

  • Sorry about the job Bails - you did so well though to get so far from so far away! Little comfort I'm sure, but it really is an achievement.

At least you've got happy weddingy and travelly things to focus on, chin up!
