DH cooked a lovely roast chicken today. I'm very fussy about my meat (it's the farmer's daughter in me) so this was was free range from our local farm shop - not cheap but I don't think I've ever got so much off one bird. Boing!!!! The carcass is now simmering, pending some yummy home-made soup for my boys who are still off school for the next few day. We've got some extra mash left too, ready for some of Hubbie's legendary veggie-burgers.
A funny thing happened to me in the supermarket queue today. I glanced at the shopping behind mine (go on, own up - I'm not alone am I?) and noticed a four-pack of branded tomato soup. I'd got 4 tins myself - but for way less than the 4-pack because it was on a 4 for £2 offer. I really had to fight the urge to tell the guy behind me to put it back and save himself a fortune, not to mention the environmental impact of that extra packaging!
I think I'm getting back into the swing of things!0 -

:rotfl::rotfl: I've preordered it too. Yes really:DEssex-girl wrote: »Evening All
Just popped in to say - Thriftlady I have preordered Pioneer Lady's cookbook.!!!! :j:j Its all your fault - I have become ever so slightly obsessed with her website after you bought it to my attention :rotfl:trouble is I think I will have to move to a ranch so I can work off all the excess weight I shall be putting on with all her recipes. Havnt seen any ranches for sale in Essex though - also OH is refusing to wear chaps. Its just not fair
The Chicken Parmigiana from her site which I made for supper tonight was lush. I used a mixture of grated mozzarella and cheddar as I didn't have enough parmesan.
I love her style although I find her obsession with washing raw chicken a bit odd. Have you checked out the pics of Marlboro Man (her OH)? He's mighty fine;)0 -

2 Start menu plaanning
3 Cook from scratch
4 Start putting a little something away every day
5 Get Xmas sorted so that I can take the pressies when we visit for other things (we live in the South East and most rellies are in the North West) to save on postage.
6 Take any overtime offered (you don't know how long its going to last for)
What a great plan :T As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the OS Daily Thread where you'll find more OSers to assist you on your way

I'm loving the Pioneer Woman website! Thanks for introducing me to her!
I've had a very lazy day, read a magazine and watched tv mainly. Although I was good and didn't order pizza, I made one instead
I used half a ciabatta loaf as a the base and cooked up a tomatoey topping and added peppers and basil and cheese. It was very yummy.

Evening all
I baked my first batch of hobnobs this afternoon, quickly followed by my 2nd as hubby ate 2 while they were warm and declared he felt an addiction coming on.
I have now hidden remainder of both batches otherwise they wont be very economical.
I put white choc chips in some just before putting them in oven very yummy will be experimenting with more variations

Miserable weather here too, not much rain but a cold wind...went shopping with DD3 today, she wanted something to wear to her bf's graduation next Saturday and ended up buying 3 dresses and a jacket, but decided to think about the lovely shoes that were €130, she is coming on! Didn't buy a thing myself, paid €3.90 for the parking, but she bought the coffee, so not bad.
Roast pork with baked potatoes, roast squash, onions, fennel, onions and tomatoes for dinner...very nice, no pudding as am trying to get rid of some of the weight.
Jayne and George, am glad that your sister is coming to help support you to-morrow, will be thinking of you both and keeping you in my prayers. Lovely part of the world she lives in, if a bit remote.
Daren't buy another book of any kind until DD4 has moved all of hers, although I could also do with buying some more bookcases since I have decided to keep this small room as my 'office'....sounds very important, but is really too small to use as dining room except when I have only 6 for dinner, I will still be able to do that when I have it properly organised.
Trying to allow myself an hour a day on pc so that I can get on with things I should be doing....we'll see how it works.
Hugs to all in need or want
