Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 1st November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,
Curly - here is an animation just for your little girl - HS3298.gif
Bitsy - I feel the same. As soon as the clocks go back I start thinking about Christmas.. guess it's the cosy dark evenings. We drew the curtains shut in the lounge for the first time in months this week! Oh and I get some of my smilies from HERE
Thriftlady - my mother and now my sister swore by covering the kids hair in conditioner and just combing through over and over with a metal nit comb. Plus washing all the bedding and towels etc of course.
Nic1 - well, my cat is nearly 15 and we nearly lost her last year so now I let her eat pretty much whatever she wants as she only eats a mouthful or two at a time. She only has about two teeth left now, but she really loves turkey!
Cranky - I understand that surreal feeling. *hugs* You are coping so well and you are such an inspiration.

Well, I carved the pumpkins for the door step even though I couldn't get down the stairs to give any of the kids sweeties. I roasted the pumpkin seeds with a few spices and they were rather nice.

I can confirm we have mushrooms!!! Our portabello mushroom kit is producing more than we can eat. We had a couple each last night about 5 inches across with garlic butter and cheese on and mmmmmm they were delicious! Photos to follow.

Todays OS-iness will be creating a lovely roast beef dinner (with added mushrooms no doubt!), and also sorting through some boxes of assorted items that need putting away or giving away. My father came round to say goodbye yesterday and I was yet again extoling the virtues of this site and others like Preloved and freecycle so I hope this time he will pay attention.

I hope you all have a peaceful and happy Sunday. With love, light andgrouphug.gif for everyone who would like one.

  • Morning MSD & all who follow
We had lots of spooky visitors last night, I have no sweeties left & most were so excited to see the door opened by a witch. I woke up just in time to hear the weather forcast saying heavy rain heading our way, so I leapt out of bed & rushed out to the garden just as it started to spit with rain as I'd left 2 towels on the line.
DS & DDIL popped in yesterday, they have moved to London & are selling their cars, I now have 2 cars on my drive until they can sell them & there is already a potential buyer for one of them. OSwise, I shall make some raspberry buns to take to work tomorrow & do a little washing.
    Have a great day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all

DS up early again......I decided to stay up watching a film till 12 30 last night instead of going to bed earlier, when will I learn:rolleyes:....am now shattered, I knew he would be up early again but sometimes I feel I have no life going to bed at an early hour all the time. Would be lovely to stay in bed till after 5am!!!!
Watched X factor last night with the delectable Jamie:wink::tongue::heart2::p, makes a change to have a real man on these things instead of silly boys:rotfl:....jedward were terrible again but I thought Danyl was awful too:eek:really in a sulk from last week and flat as a pancake. Could still park a bus in his mouth tho;)
Plans today include making roast chicken dinner, maybe make some apple pies, OH is relaying some floor tiles in kitchen. Am also trying to get tickets for Michael Jackson film, i want to go on Sat but they are not online yet our cinema only goes up to thurs so am waiting for Sat tickets to go on sale.
I too loooooooove winter and autumn...it is my favourite time of year :T I love that snuggly feeling and the type of food etc I just adore it.
MSD thats a great smilie list:D, we did a pumpkin here too, I cant eat the things tho even the smell is gross. It was very quick to carve though, not like it was in my day when we spent 3 days hollowing out a turnip:rotfl:

well must grab a coffee and decide what to do for brekkie......bacon and tomatoes or porridge with cream and brown sugar:cool:

    Morning All

Have been mia for a couple of days - went away for 1 night Thurs which was good but not great as came down with a temperature & stinking cold. Managed to survive the trip & the kids still enjoyed themselves but is wasnt as good as it could have been. Spent all day yesterday in bed with day nurse & night nurse & do feel a lot better this morning.

This has put me behind with everything so plan to get as much done today as possible but without knackering myself too much. Was meant to be going to chinese buffet lunch with the inlaws but I wont go - cant taste anything anyway and they wouldnt appreciate me coughing & spluttering everywhere.

Need to get some paperwork done, menu plan & do an online shop. Do some ironing & get all the kids stuff for school ready. Have got our big meeting at work tomorrow so the real priority is to get that sorted.

No idea what will have for dinner but as its just me that wont be too much of a problem.

Hope you are all well & (((hugs))) to anyone who needs one.x

    Morning everyone.

tipping it down with rain here :( I hung a load of washing out yesterday and it didn't dry fully, I've got another load to try and hang somewhere. I guess this is the downside to having the heating on less.......stuff doesn't dry as quick in the house

With the weather being so pants not sure what our plans are. We'd normally go swimming but I am incapacitated (;)) and DS has a really phlemmy chest so I think we'll just miss it this week. Not much fun going for a walk in the pouring rain so I can see us decending on granny's house to break up the day :rotfl:
Need to put BM on, might do some baking if I get chance. My well ordered life seems to disintergrate at weekends when H is home :o

Only had one knock at the door last night and TBH we didn't answer it. Was trying to put DS to bed so didn't want the disruption. It was 8.30pm so in all likelihood NOT young kids.
Took DS to his Halloween party and he spent the whole hour we were there asking to go home. We didn't have a huge meltdown (which is something) but 5 mins after we got there he wanted to leave  Mind you it was like a family party rather than just a kids party so they weren't playing party games so there was little for me to try and engage him with. They'd decorated the house fab though - really gone to town

Tea tonight will no dobut be left over chicken and lots of veg.

Diva - thanks for the smiley list. Is it possible to use too many in one messaage :rotfl: I can't believe they even have a dancing fibroid :rotfl: How do you get them to work in your messages? Just tried to click on one and nothing has happen?

Hester - glad the kids enjoyed visiting you.

NPM - I too do the "staying up late to watch a film" thing :o I was lucky today DS slept in til 6.30 am :T Hope Noah gives you an easy day.

Off to catch up with yesterdays thread. Have a good Sunday all OS or not.
Hugs to those who need them.

I am normally not a fan of e-cards but this site really is the bee knees for them! They are just beautiful :) Now I don't pay membership to use these I just like to click on them and view them as they really get me into the spirit of the season. My favourite is the very first one I saw about 9 years ago which is Christmas Cottage. I get a warm fuzzy feeling looking at these (even if we don't have snow like they depict half the time but I can dream!).

Porridge with cream and brown sugar - can the kids and I come to your house for breakfast please - sounds yummy.... :) :T
I'm thinking we'll have pancakes here today.

Money saving day - main meal out of freezer, have to pick up some things that I've nabbed on Freecycle. Have loads of crafty things that I should be getting on with - need to be prepared for the restart of school tomorrow, although both DS's are coughing madly, so not sure if they're going:mad:

Have playgroup committee meeting tomorrow and am making brownies to tempt people into coming, so had better make them - and extra to take to a friend who has just had her second baby on Tuesday. Need to empty freezer by Christmas - and if I have the time, pop and get halloween outfits for next year if they're reduced in the supermkts sales!!!!

I WILL GET ORGANISED - from now until Christmas is going to be MANIC!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Morning. Blowing a gale here with wind and rain lashing the house. looks like we are in for a week of it.
Halloween passed off without too many problems. We live out in the sticks a bit so only local trick or treaters. Work was fairly quiet too, although some idiot did throw a whole pumpkin at a moving bus and caved the windscreen in. No one was injured thankfully.
Church this morning, work this afternoon, bit of grand prix in there somewhere too. Good win for PAFC yesterday, so all is well.
Time to get the bacon out, Cheers

Morning all :) Have woken up quite early and have already promised ourselves not going out today - for which I'm quite happy. Yes, I have a basket of ironing to do, yes, I have some cooking preparation to do, and yes, I get the chance to do my sewing - I'm definitely not fussed by a trip out today!

Sorry I've not posted in a little while - I've not had an awful lot of chance to post lately. I am working on that ;) Today should be a little calmer thought. We went to a great fireworks display last night and invited some friends over afterwards. I'd left jacket potatoes in the oven cooking away and they turned out so lovely, hot, and squishy inside - mmm. We had them with cheese, meaty beans and good appetites, and then spent a lovely evening playing on the Wii. The evening flew by. :)

Today, I'm doing sausages & mash, with veggies and onion gravy for tea. I managed to find a pack of 12 sausages reduced to clear and will use half for tea and the other half in some little pasties. I'll individually double-cling film those and freeze them so we can have some ready meals. :)

Picked up another Christmas present yesterday, so I'm getting organised - slowly. Here's to a nice day for everyone. Stay safe, and have a good day ((((hugs)))) to those in need.

    Kitchenbunny xx

  • essex girl sorry to hear you have been unwell, hope you feel better soon!
Bitsy most of the time when we take DS to parties or social things he lasts about 5 mins:rolleyes:, we have found the occassional thing he enjoys though so it is worth trying. We just go to things now expecting to go home early and if we get to stay it is a bonus :rotfl:
I wish I lived near my mum and dad to get DS out for a bit to break up the day. However I did get him to ring my mum for a chat yesterday as I was fed up of his constant yapping about his "interests"......poor mum had an hour long lecture on toilet seats and door handles :rotfl:
Gosh it is absolutely pouring down and blowing a gale...real autumn weather at last:T:T:j

    Happy All Saints' Day everyone,

We had no trick or treaters last night. I did put this poster on the door though so that might have had something to do with it.

OH has taken ds1 to air cadet hq as he is supposed to be flying today. It was cancelled last week, but the weather doesn't look any better this week. It is pouring.

Dd is catching up with Strictly-she's just watching the judges' verdict on the dance off. What a crime!! I'm glad Natalie and Vincent got through though.

Ds2 is still in bed and who can blame him?

I'm hoping OH will remember to buy milk and washing powder on the way home. My housekeeping seems to have failed me this week, we don't usually run out of stuff.

Lunch today will be coconut and pumpkin soup.

Supper will be chicken breasts bashed thin and fried, then sprinkled with cheese and simmered in tomato sauce and served with spaghetti. Sort of like this. There are bright orange halloween cakes for pudding (not for me_pale_ I don't like lots of icing).

I think I'll make some rolls for the lunch boxes tomorrow.

I also need to make my shopping list for tomorrow, got to be frugal this week. I think it will be good for us to eat fairly simply in the run up to Christmas (apart from on my birthday of course!) for finanacial reasons but also so that when it is Christmas our feast will stand out as a feast. I think we feast pretty much all year round don't we?

    Morning All

Absolutely pouring down here this morning and i have a real urge to curl up on the sofa with DD and a blanket but DS1 starts work at 9 so i have to go out!

I also have my first mystery shopping job this afternoon and i'm quite nervous/excited so i'm hoping it goes ok.

Me and DD made some cookies, rice crispies buns and maltesers tray-bake which hopefully should do for snacks during the week. I also made some coleslaw which was lovely on baked potatoes last night - i'm the only one who likes coleslaw so i can see it being dished out round the neighbours as there's loads left!

Savoury batch cooking today;- want to get some braised mince under way and some stewing steak on as well as making a roast dinner and the usual tidying and wwashing and getting DS1 to and from work and mystery shopping....I have a real longing for a day of rest at the minute!

Hope every one has a good day whatever you're doing
