convertxtodvd is good, i used that to put a whole season of heroes onto a disc for my friend. You could get a dvd player that plays divx (also known as avi's) files and that way you wouldn't need to convert them to play on dvd players that don't play divx.

AVI isn't Divx (hens have 2 legs..therefore all things with 2 legs are hens) ...Divx is like Xvid and others..a codec used with AVIs . There are cheap DVD players that play both ..but due to lots of files just being names somemovie.avi you'll never know if they are one or the other until they won't play.

Easiest way to watch any video on a telly is to get some leads for a few quid and link them manually ..good sound, good picture at decent res..and no hassle with converting or burning in the right format. One disc can take at least an hour on a slow PC to convert even with decent software. Longer than the movie in some cases:rotfl:

  • +1 for DVD Flick. Brilliant bit of software which is completely free and does the job many other pieces of software fail to do. Nice, Quick, and Simple.

  • I downloaded dvd flick and I've let the process run but when it has come to the burn bit I am getting a tab at the bottom of the screen saying 0% ImgBurn and an error message saying attempt x of 20 power callibration error. Any ideas?

It is Vista I'm using if it makes a difference. Worst windows system ever.

It could be that you need to update the Firmware on your DVD writer. But before that you can try burning at the minimum speed or using a more compatible disc.

I've sent you some tests via private message.

Did you adjust the writing speed from within the software to 4x or less?
If that didn't work, try a newer disc, say 8x -16x. We can also look to see if there are any firmware updates for your DVD Writer.

Sorry, should have made it a bit clearer. I want to burn the films to a disk so that the kids can watch fireman sam upstairs instead of it being on the telly all day. At the moment I run it to the telly via an xbox and xbmc which my friend set up a while ago and is amazing. We've put a little telly and dvd player in the kids room now so I was hoping to burn some of the files to disk so that they can watch them upstairs.

Thanks for all the replied by the way

you may want to get another xbox and get it softmodded for XBMC
then you can just burn them as data CD's with no worries
its only because i went all HD that my xbox 1 has sadly been superseded

do you have the files on an internal drive or external?
  • I recommend totalvideo2dvd - costs about £15 I think but its a simple drag and drop file, convert into format you want and burn. There's a free trial program to check it does what you want

No need to pay for software when DVD Flick does the same job for free(or a donation). Especially in this case, where the problem is with the hardware/firmware.
