oooh thank you zippychick, i've saved adventures to read with a cuppa later.

I have good news! I've managed to get a BM from freecycle (or freegle it was called now *confused* ) I've no idea on make or model but I don't care. I can try it and If I don't like refreegle it.. If I do like it, bonus!

A bit of a pointless post but need to vent my excitement.

Can anyone advise me on breadmakers? What sort do you recommend for making smaller loaves, as there are only two of us? What sort of price should I expect to pay?

A big thanks to all who contributed to this superb thread...it would take way too long to thank individually!

I spent hours and hours reading before deciding which breadmaker to buy and finally decided on the Pansonic, concluding that if the bread turned out first time, I would be more likely to use it long term and it wouldn't be a one-off wonder.

It was most definitely the best decision, the bread is so delicious and successes to date include rapid bake loaves, milk loaf, normal white loaves, french loaves and pizza dough (fantastic). Have sort of decided on the fast bake white program for everyday use with 3/4 white flour and a 1/4 brown. Can just about get away with this amount for fussy husband who won't eat brown bread.

There's only two hiccups really, we need to buy a really decent bread knife and a loaf never lasts long enough!

Yesterday DH was making naan bread dough in the Panasonic DS253 breadmaker and it managed to wobble itself off the worksurface and is now smashed to pieces. Is there anyone out there who had this model and has gone on to use a newer model who could give me an idea of whether the newer ones are as good or whether to look for a used SD253?
    Thanks

Sorry to hear about your panny!

I have the SD254 and its fantastic. I don`t know about the newer ones but they get very good reviews so i would imagine that all the pannys are good. I really don`t know what i`d do without mine.

Every now and again the model that i have comes up on Amazon cheaply as it is now classed as one of the older models. Happy hunting.

I think the Kenwoods are the current Which? best buy but you won't go far wrong with a Panasonic. Are you covered for accidental damage on your household insurance?
