There is a potential breach of the ECHR here.
In my town they close the roads Friday and Saturday from 9.00pm to 4.00am for all but taxis.
This also covers an area where there is a theatre, so the taxi's have the monopoly for all those who don't (read can't) walk to a location with access.
Also in another part of town they close a major route near the football ground for certain matches on a Saturday afternoon. Is there a braech of ECHR?0 -

There is a process they have to go through to close a road under these circumstances. From the OP's description of the road closure it seems that the road is only closed to cars and/or drivers the police decide on a whim shouldn't use it."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Of course it doesn't breach human rights! The council can close roads to traffic if they wish, or put a restriction on the type of vehicles using the road.
Restricting it to taxi's only may not be fair or reasonable but it's perfectly acceptable legally.
However banning some traffic and not others without basing it on objective criteria seems very dodgy to me! Although the OP suggesting that he could get through in a van suggests that cars are banned but all other types of vehicle are permitted.0 -

just to clarify for the above few posters - the police have closed the road to those who they suspect are boy/girl racers. residents workers etc are SUPPOSED to be allowed access. this is what i am annoyed about - my son is admittedly under 30 but he drives a bog standard ford focus and was stopped (with his two year old in a car seat in the back and refused access even though he explained he was picking up his partner from work) not once - but twice!!!
he has found ways round it now - BUT - it aint right is it? what is this - a police state?0 -
To relate it back to the OP, surely the police know the boy racer cars in question and can turn them back, and if the OP's Focus and other people on legitimate business had a card in the windscreen, surely common sense could prevail. Perhaps it needs a stroppy pensioner in a scooby (subaru impreza) to cause a fuss when he is refused access, to get it in the tabloids to shame the police?0

i loved that last post - am wondering now whose car (souped up with loads of extras my OH can borrow) to pick up DIL! lmao
about the card in windscreen idea - like the 'DOCTOR ON CALL' or 'PICKING UP MISSUS FROM WORK'
well telling cops he was picking up missus didnt work - why would a card?0 -

why not offer your advise to your son who has this problem and get him to pay for it as it directly affects him,or get him to find a free lawyer?
