In my local town the biggest problem seems to be middle age men in flash BMW's or Audi's, does this mean we should ban them all from driving?!
Of course not, we should never tar everybody with the same brush, there are some shocking teenage boy drivers around, but i've seen my fair share of shocking middle age drivers too, who are old enough to know better!
Absolutely.
Totally agree.0 -
the police should be working with the youngsters to set up an area where they can go and meet up and not cause annoyance (or cut the nuisance down).
By interacting they can educate not dictate to the people,
surely a controlled meet is better than them just racing around
it is no real difference than having a 'bike' meetIMOJACAR

thanks everyone for your replies!
my son shouldnt have to beg police for access to town - he has every right to go there! even if he is under thirty! this aspect annoys me!
to the other poster - yes it is blackwoods asda! yes your car is photographed and the number plate displayed - and not sure of the DPA aspect to that - but when i shop i dont really care who is driving in.
to another poster - i used to do my weekly shop in asda on thursday nights and as far as i could tell the boy (and girl) racers just used to park up eat macdonalds or KFC and chat! i bet mcds and KFC are missing them!! profits well down on thursdays. they didnt bother me in the least by being there. but if they were speeding through town - up to police to catch them and god knows there is enough cctv!0 -

If your son is involved in an accident with one I'm sure your opinion will change.
As you well know being in Law and Order that the Insurer still has to pay out the claim under the RTA (This means they pay out claims for damage to third parties) even if they did have an exclusion about "Boy racer meetings". In fact they would still have to pay out under the RTA if the car was modified and the modifications were not declared. This is the basic principle of Motor Insurance
If they voided the policy they are likely to pursue the policy holder to repay them any costs they have paid out.
(The RTA may not apply on some private property)0 -

I agree he shouldn't have to beg for access to the town centre but sometimes you have to pick your battles and imo this isn't his.
btw, I think your police force is handling this very badly. A few years ago our police encouraged the youngsters to attend the large car park of the local arena car park on a Sunday night instead of their local haunt of the Aberdeen Boulevard. It gave them all a place to show off their cars and the police were there in an informal capacity to advise on the legality of their modifications. I'm not sure if it worked and perhaps it didn't as I don't think it happens anymore but I always thought this was a good idea. Nowadays our police have the power to seize cars of anyone caught driving anti-socially and that includes racing around town or driving with excessive noise.
Perhaps this is the route your local police force should be taking instead of a blanket ban.0 -
North Wales Police pimped up an old talivan, a minging Transit, and used to display it near boy racers trying to connect with a road safety message. good try, wrong motor.0

At least they tried......... well, sort of ..
Send all the boy racers down to Southend sea front where they all drive and pose (not speeding, as the humps are too high) and try to impress each other and all the girls.
I'm so glad that I am nowhere near that age group anymore.. :rotfl::rotfl:Genie

Sounds to me like the OP is sympathetic to these youngsters getting together and having a burger. Whereas the local shop/council/police or whoever, are not. And therefore, because of this, his son is being penalised too. Too much red tape and bigotry!Genie
