Yep I completely understand that...it does put me at a loss though, I've no idea
I have twin cousins who are 18, I'll do some research and get back to you if I find anything of interest x0 -
Hurrah Hurrah - All the invitations are now in the mail :j
Yesterday I ordered a birthday cake (another £79 ) for Mum. She deserves it. She has no idea about the party (neither does my Dad, but that's another story) or that her relatives are coming over from Ireland. She will be so emotional and truly ecstatic. She loves a good bash and is always life and soul - so I'm really glad we're doing this for her.
However, I am getting a bit freaked out at the amount of money I have spent this week (though the cost of the party will be split between me and my siblings). I easily spent £300 yesterday...
A few NSD are in order for the rest of the month I think.
Off to play bingo - wish me luck!0 -
good luck!! party sounds fantastic, though. Now: off-set mortgage *up-and-running*...

Thank you Greenmantle!
I did have a [STRIKE]dream[/STRIKE] nightmare the other night, that we arrived at the party and only 20 people showed up, the band didn't show and I'd forgot to do the food :eek:0 -
sounds like it's going to be a fab party.
at least you are spending on good things, my dishwasher has just gone bang! sounds a luxury i know but i have bad excema on my hands so they bleed when i clean or wash up so it was a necessary. Just got to pursuade OH to get a new one tomorrow, he doesn't mind washing up but it always seems to smell afterwards or get a film on it. yuk.0 -
I did a surprise party for my dad's 50th (thank goodness I did, because he never lived until his 60th), and I had nightmares about it too - but it all went according to plan, people came from all over the country, old work mates, family, etc, and Dad had no idea until the moment he walked into the venue.......
So I am sure your do will be absolutely fine - the nightmares are part of the package, unfortunately!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -

Ouch LT, I feel your pain as I too currently have bad eczema on my left hand around my wedding ring.
DD1 gets it too mainly on the inside of her elbow, which she scratches and picks mercilessly. I think mine is caused by liquid soap and not rinsing it properly, then not drying my hands....
Once it gets sore, I need to keep water, shampoo and any detergent off it, ntil it gets better - which is virtually impossible
Hope you can get a new dishwasher asap0 -

I'm very sorry to hear that Hypno. I know losing your Dad was life changing for you. I'm sure he had a great time at the party and although his life was not as long as it should have been, I bet he lived it well.
That's one of the reasons I want to do this for my Mum. She is as fit as a fiddle (Thank God) and is so kind and thoughtful to everyone and great fun. She always puts herself out, so I want her to know how much we appreciate her and make a huge fuss.
The only fly in the ointment is my Dad. He thinks everything revolves around him and as he is not as outgoing as Mum, he doesn't want a party. I broached the subject with him and asked if we could hold it in their house. He said, categorically "No".
So I just went ahead and booked a venue, band, got invitations designed and printed and invited around 160 people!!!!:rotfl:
We will probably fall out over it, (as he still does not know about it), but after consulting my siblings, we decided he would spoil it and would tell her.
They're away now, so we'll tell him a few days before.....
I've transferred my EGG balance to the Nationwide this morning. Sadly, I cannot do a "Super Balance Transfer" for my Overdraft, so will have to think about juggling some of the MBNA Virgin balance across to it and then transferring the OD to the Virgin
I'm no maths whizz, but as I'm currently paying £34 per month in OD interest, vs 0% on Virgin, it might be better to pay the 3% fee....Then at least the OD is on a CC and paying less interest...
Although the Virgin deal finishes in March, my head hurts....0 -
Oh Mac, nos make my head hurt! I'm fine with add and subtract but anything else is like sticking pins in my eyes. Your reckoning with the transfers sounds right though!
Men, especially old ones, can be funny burgers can't they? I hope your dad doesn't spoil the surprise for your mom or you and your siblings as you've all worked so hard. One step at a time0 -
I'm debating with myself whether or not to buy a tumble dryer.
However I've just had an automated phonecall from the bank checking up as I've made so many transactions in the last few days!
The one I'm considering is the Zanussi one that has been advertised on TV for £199. It has free delivery from Currys (+3% cashback via Quidco). I can put it on the 0% card and pay it after Christmas - or is that just putting it on the never never
I doubt I would dry everything in the TD every time, but certainly at this time of year - it would be a Godsend.... Decisions decisions.....0
