That does sound horrendous LT - hope you get some positive movement soon.

I'm 40 in August - so not long. If I paid £1800 a month it would take me 10 months.
At the moment I pay £1200 into our joint account to cover bills, mortgage and childcare. This is our highest outgoing for breakfast & after-school clubs and nursery totalling almost £900 per month.

When little DD starts school next September (I will be 40 by then), the fees will drop to around £400 a month.
At the moment my salary is £2500 (2350 after childcare voucher is deducted). I could work full time (currently do 4 days to spend 1 day with DD2) As it is, I don't see the kids on a morning as I leave at 6.30am, so I can pick them up between 5.30/6pm.
It makes financial sense to do 5 days, but for now it's more important that I'm with my kids for at least one day during the week and do the school run at least once.
They are so young and need me and I know this will change and I don't want to look back with regret.

So... that leaves £1100 and from that I need petrol £120 a month, Dental £11.50, mobile approx £25 and "spends" which varies.

Now we have pooled our finances for groceries and kids clothes, presents, going out, I have got more surplus. So I guess if I can find extra cash, there is a chance.....

There is ALWAYS a chance when a DFW'er is on a mission :D

Aim for a debt free 40th birthday, but if it turns out that you celebrate your first 40 something Christmas debt free instead, then that is good enough

That's a really good way to look at it Hypno. When we're desperate to be debt free we can so hard on ourselves. You're doing a fab job Mac - keep going ;)
One step at a time ;)
  • Well done on getting out for your run :j

I will be 40 in 5 years and hope to be debt free by then although will have moved on to tackle the mortgage by then  My ultimate aim is to be completely debt free by the time I'm 45 so me and OH can relax when the kids are about to leave home - not wishing their lives away or anything :rotfl:
    1st debt - Next [STRIKE]£583.32[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£408.71 [/STRIKE] £0 :j
    2nd debt - MBNA - £6,618.52
First in many many to go - baby steps and all that!
First lump sum to go - fingers crossed!
    08/06/09 - [STRIKE]£11,497.68[/STRIKE] NOW - £9,757.75

Evening all, thanks Hopeful and IMD

Didn't manage to get to yoga, feeling shattered and a bit bleurgh...excuses, excuses.

Feel tired today. A long day at work and embarrassingly, my phone was in my pocket and must have called someone by accident (as I was talking about them  - though not in a nasty way, but still :o:o:o)

I arrived home to a letter from the Office of Fair Trading telling me I'm in arrears with my new Virgin 0% card. I have set up the Direct Debit TWICE , so was rather irate when I called them. The only way I could get to speak to a real live person, was be pressing the "I'm in financial difficulty" option

Luckily I spoke to a lovely lady, who sorted everything for me, except I still have to ring up to have my 0% deal reinstated tomorrow.....*sigh* why is everything so difficult?

However, when I woke this morning, my first thought was
I will pay off this debt before next August - I don't know how - but I'm determined.

Plus my "abs" are aching somewhat which has reminded me to do more. Not tonight though - just eaten a pile of biscuits :p
