Oooh thanks Rupe! You've made me blush - you Devil you! :blushing::o:rotfl:
Thanks very much for saying that, it will spur me on when I feel like I'm just talking to myself ("Dear Diary, Why so blue, it is because no one ever visits you?!")
That made me laugh about the fireplace DT, that is something my Dad would do - it's enterprising!
As for weight - well it's the bane of most women's lives isn't it? At any one time there are at least 8 of us on a diet at work, you name it they've done it - including diet pills, which I'm DEAD against.
My problem is I am a sugar fiend. I love biscuits and chocolate (in fact I've just had 2 x 2 finger Kitkats while typing this). It's the only bad thing I eat, as I never eat fried food, pies or meat and try to keep away from white carbs.
However, I do worry about my sugar overload will lead to Diabetes (I'm a terrible hypochondriac too)
I certainly don't have the lovely slim form of a runner, but do enjoy it. I am apple shaped though and running alone is not enough (remember when someone congratulated me on my "pregnancy" in the Summer? Horrendous)
So, needs must0 -
How's things this afternoon, macgirl? If you ever want to make yourself feel better about clutter/attics etc, I invite you to come and visit my garage......it has to be seen to be believed! In fact, one day, I will take a "before" and "after" picture, when we finally decide to tackle it, which we will HAVE to do if we ever really intend to move house!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Didn't get back from swimming until 2pm, then dropped "Mary" at her friend's house. DH sloped off upstairs for more sorting whilst I tackled the washing and dreaded ironing.
In fairness, he does have client-sensitive documents up there from his freelancing days, but still - progress is slow.
He said the kids will be in there before Christmas, though it won't be carpetted and there might not be any skirting boards on
I feel ashamed that we can't seem to get our act together. I avoid inviting people over, as although the downstairs is ok, we have no architrave in the bathroom and we really do need new windows......amongst a whole host of other tasks:rolleyes:
If I think about it too much it starts to get me down. We were so idealistic when we bought this, restoring sash windows and stripping skirtings and door frames (Why???!!). We bought it to renovate and rent out, but after 8 years and quadrupling house prices that looks doubtful......
OH is getting really fed up living here though. There has beed a spate of burglaries and the York stone flag paths have even been removed from some people. I can't believe the nerve of it.
So that's really my motivator, I have to be debt free to move on0 -
Sorry for the ramble - bet you're sorry you asked! :rotfl:0
-
Not at all - we have been here over 6 years and done next to nothing to the place, and are now faced with spending out on windows etc to make the place saleable, or else selling it with the work still to be done, and taking less money for it.......
Also, really we need to be debt free in order to move - that has been my motivator all along, so every £1 I pay off is £1 closer to being able to move house.
So, no, I am not sorry I asked - I am very much in the same position......Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Exactly the same here, been in this house 3 yrs and so much needs doing, i always pray that no one wants to use the bathroom if they visit its scary awful:eek:, think its the original from when the house was built 50 yrs ago and the tiles are dropping off the walls.0

Well hypno, we are both 40 next year and that is a big milestone for me to be financially sorted and hopefully have moved by this time next year.
I feel certain you will be debt free, for me - I'm not sure I will.
I still need to spend less and put far more effort into cutting back. I have my fingers crossed to a decent wage rise, but that's like hoping for a lottery win. So I too have to concentrate on what I can control, keep my head down and not be beaten down by the small stuff....0 -
i think there's a lot of us who's motivation for getting debt free is to move house. I've been in this flat for 7 years now, and we've replaced the kitchen & bathroom and all the flooring and lots of other stuff, just need to get the outside sorted but that's gonna take the other flat owners which is the problem at the moment. Had words with one the guilty parties this morning and said it just wasn't acceptable and we'd been speaking to them nicely for a few years about getting stuff done we were being left no choice but to notch up the level even if it means legal advice. can't afford it but can't afford water pouring in the patio doors and ruining the carpets etc let alone the damp problem. grrrrr sorry for the rant, i think i've probably said this lot too many times now but it really gets me down.0

I'm not surprised it gets you down LT, and I really do feel for you as it must be quite a difficult situation for you.
Macgirl - when are you 40? There is no reason why you can't be debt free, or almost debt free by that time, even without the fantasy lottery win.......it will take effort, but it can be done - I certainly hope it can, anyway, because I don't intend having any debt by my birthday!!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
