Too late to wish you happy birthday, you're already away and gone :D enjoy yourself and come back ready, refreshed and raring to go.

There's nothing wrong with 40, (I think I can remember being 40 way back in the mists of time)

    Hello :hello:
I'm back and guess what? 40 feels exactly the same as 39! :D

Had a fantastic time in Rome. Our hotel was in a perfect location, a stone's throw from the Trevi Fountain, with a balcony - it was bliss. I spent my birthday at the Colosseum. It was truly breath-taking, then we had a lovely candlelit dinner in the Piazza outside the Pantheon, with an accordian player softly playing typical Italian tunes. The following day we went to The Vatican and Sistine Chapel, which were both mind-blowing.

All in all, a brilliant time and a brilliant birthday :)

Sadly, we did spend more than we expected - though I didn't buy any shoes :D and despite getting a £5 mobile bundle, I was getting and making calls regarding the house - daily, so I'm dreading the phone bill _pale_

Other than that, the builders have been in plastering the kitchen ceiling after the bathroom leak and made a new wooden bath surround to be tiled.
The plumber had clearly not fixed the leak, as a new damp patch has appeared on the new ceiling :( Can't believe it and now I'm concerned we won't get it fixed before we move, plus it means even more money :(:(:(

Oh well, back to it. Hope all's well with everyone x

Welcome home! I am glad you had a good time!

I was disappointed though, to read that 40 feels exactly the same as 39. I am hoping that it will feel a whole lot BETTER than 39 when I get there in 3 months time!

I am def making plans for life to begin, and hope that yours is wonderful from here on too x

Thanks all - yes Mrs R - it is THE house :j after a tense month-long wait, they agreed to proceed with our offer.
The survey is being done tomorrow, but we don't expect anything untoward and fingers crossed we'll be in 2 weeks today! :j

Well, an eventful weekend to say the least. DH had organised a surprise meal for us and 8 friends last night. He ended up having to tell me last week, as he thought my Mum had let something slip - she hadn't.
My sister from the States was invited, but my other siblings - who are much younger and I rarely see - weren't, as it was really just friends.

I thought my younger sister was fine with this, as they had a family wedding to attend, but it transpires she was not. I ended up having a pretty horrid day yesterday.
To cut a long story short, it ended with my older sister hurling lots of insults my way and telling me that everyone in the family has an issue with me (she lives 3000 miles away). I admit I am a straight talker and am pretty fiery :o but ironically, I am also the person everyone in the family runs to when they have a problem, then I am "great".

I had a very sad weepy day yesterday and am still crying typing this. The kids wanted a "surprise" party for me, so I asked my Mum if she would do that at her house, but after yesterday we decided not to attend. I was only bothered about not upsetting them, but luckily the girls didn't mind and we are having a birthday tea party here.

I still enjoyed last night, though it was somewhat tainted after yesterday.

So, 40.........not off to a good start.
  • Poor you - families, who'd have 'em? Sounds like a v stressul start to the big 40 to me. But probably things just got out of hand and everyone said things they didn't really mean, though. Time needed for reflection all round, I'd say. But on a brighter note, fingers crossed for the survey for you.

Aww, so sorry to read about the family stuff. I hope that it gets resolved soon, and the best thing to do is just to let it go and remember that you are you, and as you say, they are happy for you to be you when it suits them!

But I can understand why you feel so upset. And I hope that you can have a decent evening xx

Good luck for the survey - am sure all will be fine xxx
