Well, I've got a man coming to quote for new windows, so feel under pressure to blitz the house so it's spick and span. Friday is my "day off", which translates as cleaning day

Still, the Sun is shining and it feels semi-warm outside! :j

Hey macgirl - just caught up with yesterday's posts - just want to say - I think you are brilliant! You are funny, honest - and I can totally relate to wanting to stick two fingers up diet-wise! I'm glad you are feeling better in yourself today.

Please keep writing it as it is - hormonal or otherwise :D

    Thanks Rupe :A

The ironing is done! (It is my most loathsome job, I'd rather lick the skirting than iron)
The beds are re-made and look hotel-like!
Bathroom and Kitchen are sparkling clean!
All floors have been swept or hoovered
All junk which needs to be out of sight has been shoved into the attic bedroom :D (come on - I'm not that good!)

So I feel MUCH better - like Betty from Mad Men (but fatter).
I have to say housework is a bl00dy thankless task. I tell myself it's good for the soul, but really I resent it.
Especially, when any evidence of cleaning will be gone by tomorrow morning :wall:

You tidied up for a man coming to measure your windows??!:rotfl:I'm not sure I would have bothered for friends and family. The last quote I had, he had to reach over the ironing pile and clamber over DS bed!

Sorry you felt so pants, but it is allowed.

How did you get on with the window man? I need new windows desperately, but skiing always seems a lot more fun to me and my budget!!

Hahaha! Glad that amused you Gill! :p

The house is now gleaming - not that anyone has noticed

Hypno, I got a quote from a local firm last year, but like you, other things took precedence and we decided to wait. I rang 2 other firms, one local, once national. The national one narked DH with their insistence that he must be there with me for the quote  What is it 1950?!

So after listening to the sales patter and lots of calculations, the price came in £1200 dearer than last years! After I told him the price we'd been quoted (I didn't mention that the quote was a year ago), he said they couldn't compete with that and immediately knocked £500 off the price!

It doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but I'll wait to see if they ring back with a better offer - then we'll have to scrape the money from somewhere :o

I really must tidy up more.

I don't really get the way the big national firms work. I have had quotes from local firms, and they just come in, measure up roughly and then give you a rough quote and then send a detailed one. National firms insist on the whole sales patter and playing games with numbers. National firm were £2000 dearer than the most expensive local quote, and then managed, after a few phone calls to get it down by £1750! Why couldn't they just give you that price??

Windows are the next big thing on my list and may take precedence over debt payments as it will save me money and make the house sellable.

Yes Gill, that's the thing, it's false economy not to have them. We were very idealistic when we bought this house. We love period houses and the sash windows sold it to us.
We lovingly restored them, spending hours stripping layers of paint off (God knows what all that paint stripper has done to us :o) and sanding etc. They look lovely and I feel guilty getting rid of something that has lasted over 100 years to replace it with a bit of plastic guaranteed for 10...... But needs must.

    Good luck with yours :)

They are the biggest expectation I think for many people buying a house, and they will offer on a house accordingly. For example, it will prob cost £4-5k to do mine, but if I tried to sell it without them, any buyer would knock at least £10k off the price. So it is an investment really, and as far as selling the house is concerned, I think it will just make it a whole lot easier.

    Have a good day, Macgirl!

Right. Today the house is done - so just a quick tidy will suffice :j
I have 5 loads of washing though :(

Abs and legs are aching a bit after yesterday, but no running today in prep for tomorrow's 10k  Hopefully it will be cool and damp like today - perfect conditions.
I've reserved a cheap HRM from Argos, so will pick that up today - £30, but still cheaper than a Garmin

Free listing weekend on Ebay, so they will go on this evening.
Other than that, the usual ballet and swimming lessons and hopefully no more spending.

I'll have to eat well today, but I feel strong as I've lost 2lbs (of the 4 that I put on last week :o but it's still a loss!)

    Have a good day :)
