No extra pounds in November

  • What a great idea!

It would have to be £1 for 1lb for me - I don't think in kilos and anyway I need easy and regular encouragement. But I might try and give myself a £10 bonus on the months I hit the half stone loss.

A jar of £1 coins by the fridge could be just the visual and regular reminder I need.

(It would be even better if I had an OH to reward me instead :A)

Brilliant idea! I'm going to start doing that! :T

Just caught up on the thread for the first time in a few days.
Wow, lots of great progress being made (lost / posh and others) :T

Anyone remember my concerns a month(?) or so ago over a friend who appeared to be taking extreme measure to loose weight?
She was drinking one of her vegatable shakes again when I saw her this Sunday. I think it's been about 7 weeks since I saw her last.
She has lost a lot of weight, I didn't ask, too shocked, could be as much as 2 stone at a guess. What ever the loss is it is much too fast but she does seem to have adjusted to the new "diet", didn't look as tired and drawn as last time.
She's not a very patient person and what she is doing might even be dangerous. I wonder how she's going to get out of this and onto the new eating habits when she reaches her target weight.
It's not that simple getting into maintaining weight, I only had to make reasonably simple changes to my eating habits but still overshot lost 2lbs more than I was aiming too and have sinced bounce up the other way 2 lbs but I think I've got it stable now. It's going to be really tough for her.
I just don't think she understands how all this works, just wants quick results.
My favourite quote from caloriecount.about.com "It's a marathon not a sprint" and boy is she sprinting all the way

My cousin went on one of these all-liquid diets. She was allowed 500 calories a day (she has a busy full-time job, is a single parent, walks her dog every day, and goes to the gym most days).

Yes she did lose weight, and yes she did look great. But guess what happened when she started eating again. Yep, slowly but surely, it all went back on again.

It just isn't a sustainable lifestyle.

Yep, this is my fear for her.
When you have been eating the right diet for your "500 calories under what you burn" for the months or even years it takes your also establishing a habit or discipline for the mind and body which will enable you to maintain the right weight in future. This is 50% of the game, the actual loosing of the weight is the other 50%.
Well, my non-expert opinion anyway :o
  • AdrianHi + zzzLazyDaisy - I agree, I have, I would say about 80% changed the way I think about food. I now think before I eat and what I eat, and hopefully this will now stay with me for the rest of my life. Quick fix diet's don't work. x

    1.5 kilos :)

Thats 3.5 kilos in all which I make just over 7lbs.

This is the first time I will have me the challenge I think. I'm so relieved and excited.

I hve reverted a bit to in between days weigh ins this week. but i'm going to stand by the regular weekly ones that someone else does, to avoid leaning to the favourable weighs and getting depressed by less favourable ones.

Certainly, this is a result of the med change. Thing is I've had to come off another important one to go on this one.. They gave me a chpice at last though, because essentially, I've more well than I was ever likely to and now its a matter of managing stuff, so off the meds for the main issue, on the meds for a metabolism for a while:o:o. I have to go in weekly so they can ensure I'm still relatively normal :D and it will be reassessed four weekly. My hope is to stay on this for at least 12 weeks (longer if possible) take a break when I need to and then go back on it.

Longer term I'm going to need another operation, but I can't in winter (animals) and I need to have reached a better equilibrium with meds, because I won't be able to chop and change after that, so will still have two conflicting problems needing conflicting meds:rolleyes: Ridiculous, huh?

ETA: we've decided on £10 a kilo for now. When I reacha weight I'm happy with I'm going to go through my old clothes and probably have to get rid of lots and lots that I feel ...a little emotional about. so the pay off will allow me to buy some new really nice things to replace them, which is why we've decided on a fairly hefty ;) amount.

That sounds like a great plan. I'm just getting treated to a little something new every time I hit a stone barrier - tonight we shall be going to M&S and I'm getting measured for some new bras as they're all huge around the back now :)

So, as I may have already given it away, I've now lost just over 3 stone :j 3 and a bit pounds this week and as this is my final weigh in of November I make it a shade under 10lbs lost this month. Jolly pleased with that, especially given the dodgy weigh in I had last week.

    Hi all,
I've just discovered weight watcher's bread. It's ok. I've got the malted one, is quite a thin bread, but then it would be wouldn't it - lol! Don't recommend it as toast as it goes very crispy, but as a sandwich is great. Only 49 cals a slice so, if i'm being 'good' then my calorie intake is down by at least a 100 cals (based on 2 slices) which means 1) I can have something extra or 2) I can save those calories up and have a treat later on! Fantastic!
Just thought I would share with you all. Anyone else like this bread too?? x

I just can't do that bread. :o I'd rather go with out and save the calories and just have ''real'' bread less often. But, we are all different.

What I have had, today and yesterday, is a crumpet. The crumpets I bought are 80 calories. I'm having mine with a poached or fried egg (70/90 calories respectively) and the yoke drips through the holes, instead of butter. I feel lie a crumpet is a bit of a treat, but 170 calories as the ''main'' bit of a meal is pretty good IMO. e.g. I've just had that for lunch with a (roughly) 65 calorie portion of orange and grapefruit.
