Thing was, they said that an egg has 100 calories which surprised me, especially as slimming world seems to tell you to eat loads of them!

Forget about calories if you're following SWs Food Optimising. It's all been scientifically worked out and it's not in anyone's best interests to set us up to fail is it? The filling power/nutritional value of an egg is what counts as far as FO is concerned.

I find so many people are slightly intolerant to wheat products and don't even realise it. I often encourage members to leave bread alone for a week and see what happens and most of them report feeling so much less bloated.

As for your breakfast, what about bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes etc if you have the time. It's going to be quite difficult for you if there's so much you either can't have or don't like. Hopefully, they'll find the diarrhoea is the result of an infection (that can be treated easily) rather than your food.

  • Marion, there's a recipe for syn-free falafels if you're interested in making your own:

    227g/8ozs dried chick peas
    1 onion, finely chopped
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
    1 level tsp ground cumin
    1 level tsp ground coriander
1 small red chilli, deseeded & finely chopped
    1 tblsp chopped fresh coriander
    2 tblsps chopped parsley
    ¼ tsp baking powder
salt & freshly ground black pepper
    Fry light for spraying

    1. Put the chick peas in a bowl and cover with plenty of cold water. Leave to soak for at least 48 hours. Drain and rinse well under cold running water in a colander. (If you don't have time to soak the dried chick peas for 48 hours, you could use canned ones instead)

    2. Put the drained chick peas in a food processor with the onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, chilli and herbs. Process to a thick smooth pur!e. Add the baking powder and seasoning and stir well. Transfer to a bowl and chill in the fridge for an hour.

    3. Take small pieces of the mixture and form into little balls between your hands, then flatten slightly. Arrange these balls on a baking tray which has been sprayed with Frylight.

    4. Cook the falafel in a preheated hot oven at 220°C/425°F/Reg 7, for about 12 - 15 minutes until crisp and golden.

A bowl of very low fat natural yogurt flavoured with fresh mint and chopped chilli, makes a good dip for the falafel.

Hi all, just got up as wasn't due at Mum's until 11am but we've had more snow so not going out anywhere today. Haven't eaten yet, but have got melon for brekkie I think (but I know I'll be hungry soon after).

Hope everyone has a good, warm day! :hello:

Im sitting here not knowing what to have for breakfast. I like honey nut mini shreddies but they go straight through me.:o I have to be careful what I eat and think I may be intolerant to wheat. I've had diarrhoea for over 2 weeks and don't know why. The doctor is doing tests at the moment but so far my blood tests have come back normal. So it seems Im not Coeliac (gluten intolerant). But I definitely know Im sensitive to wheat because I also had to sell my breadmaker because the lovely bread it made gave me diarrhoea too. :(

I have to be careful with eggs too because sometimes they upset my stomach - so that rules out anything with wheat or eggs for breakfast. I don't like fruit for breakfast because I don't feel very full and I wish I didn't have to eat at all because Im fed up with the diarrhoea.

Hi Beachbeth - I am not Coeliac(gluten) but I am wheat-intolerant:rolleyes:! I had tests when I was younger - and I was told from a very young age to avoid wheat. I didn't want to know at the time, so ignored it. Then things got bad, so I paid attention :)(A friend of mine has a Coeliac daughter and the differences between what happens to her and what happens to me if we eat wheat are huge, she becomes EXTREMELY ill) - but I am still FAR healthier not eating anything with wheat in - and if its completely gluten-free so much the better.

Oatibix are a good compromise for me breakfast-wise - or I have ryvita with whatever I fancy on them. Follow either of those with a syn-free yogurt. Or how about porridge?

I understand that you are feeling rough with diahorrea - and I really hope it clears up soon.

  • i thought i'd check the syn values on cadbury's roses before i had any this morning, i thought they would be 2 syns each but most of them are 2.5  so when yesterday i thought i'd had 10 syns (4 on a biccie and 3 chocs) and i didn't cut all the fat off my bacon (most of it tho) so its more like 4 + 7.5 + 6 = 17.5 :(

MUST CHECK THINGS BEFORE I EAT THEM !!! its so easy to kid yourself that your being good tho! i want today and tomorrow to be really good days as friday i'm off for pizza and wine at a friends and saturday night i'm at a party so will be drinking. i'll have to make sure i spend a lot of time on the wii!
