CCP - I like the sound of fog horns too, reminds me of home now i live as far from the sea as i could. Happy birthday.
Mine for today
1. The comedy value of tip toeing around our own house so as not to wake sleeping teenagers (who slept over last night), And who didn't go to sleep till 5 am!!! (they finally woke at 11.30)
2. Playing tennis in the garden with the kids - rarely happens but was lovely
3. The wonderful, wonderful weather.
4. BBQ in the garden tonight - along with the rest of the country, I reckon, including home grown radishes and lettuce and rocket.
5. Daughter saying she'd heard her friends say (while they thought she was asleep) that they thought she was really pretty. I think she's stunning but then I'm biased! Wonderful for her self esteem.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
My Sunday pleasures:
1 - A nice walk in the morning while the weather was ok. Unlike most of the UK it was wet and dull here most of the day.
2 - Watching the grand prix. Not a very exciting race but good none the less.
3 - All my ironing done and away. Not a pleasure at the time but knowing it's done is.
4 - Made some scrummy banana loaf.
5 - Fixed something in the house so don't need to replace it!0 -
Shan't refer to anything other than purpose of Thread, so:
1. Dylan Moran on Friday night was to relish....and his sound manager has now em'd me for name/addy details. I asked him about some music used on the show and DM has said to send me a CD[it's his own compilation]! How lovely is that? I can't believe this will happen.
2. Usual big but good day at Charity showroom yesterday, although it ended with us running a lovely repeat buyer's cheque card back. Glorious place and setting within a designated Nature Reserve. Terrific diversion and interesting AND we'd earlier been gifted jars of their first honey, for our help over the last months. But they have been the ones who have supported us.
3. EHIC card came early this week, then another yesterday....but it's thanks to Martin's heads-up that I did it. Thankyou again, Martin.
4. A Freecycle want posted for a friend meant big early start today - off we went with my car and trailer to pick up [lit. and fig.]concrete paving slabs. 2 trips of some mileage were needed and friend's partner luckily spotted and sorted deflated trailer tyre. It was a good task done.
5. Topped and tailed no.4 with carboot hunt and gathers, 2 x early a.m. and 1 x p.m. start. Some good bits - tending rather to jewellery atm, portable and hopefully profitable[a good lump of silver today], but some decent treen, too and 2 good Lowry books for another[cognoscenti] couple who have been constant in their support of our Charity and generous with eggs and thoughtful gestures to L. and I. Will give them the books as MY thankyou.
6. During first boot, bought last of cherries from fruit man - 50p to clear the box, v.g. Reached down for bag and there was a Reverbe £, beside my foot. And the cherries are the first I've had this year - luscious.
7. Stopped at village cottage for M and P to see plants for sale in a driveway - 'Just put money through door please'. They're always interesting, cheap, excellent. M and P agree, will buy for their garden which is just being started[hence paving slabs for shed]. I was so glad they were pleased.
8. Bought 9 well-grown intriguing sounding summer lilies, 3 lovely heavily scented carnations in bloom, a massy dianthus. Every plant has a well-written, fully named info. tag[OS<yogurt pots etc.] Total spend: £2.25 - and yes, money put through door - it was ever thus.
9. Call back from Zoological Museum: my feathers are identified. Went in and had some excitement learning that they all match the Darwin display Great Argus ones in age, so at least 130-140 years old! -
http://www.flickr.com/photos/36917655@N08/4487639471/in/pool-phasianidae/
-and that mine are from a rare sub-species.
Ditto for the Green Peacock feathers, another rarity now, but prob.not when taken:
Green Peafowl, Pavo muticus. Breeds from Burma east to Java. The IUCN lists the Green Peafowl as vulnerable to extinction due to hunting and a reduction in extent and quality of habitat.
There was so much more and it is marvellous to hear and know. Left a decent donation despite their protests and my pension income. We were both very grateful.
10. Found the perfect large frame 80 x 60, distressed gilt, for another lucky rescue find, a stunning Richard Beer aquatint etching from his Venetian work - 'Arsenale', 2/100 - just a glorious dreaming soft-coloured drift, supremely drawn and coloured, meticulous yet ethereal. Something like this:

11. I love this hot wonderful weather.
12. France sorted: quick 6 day flit between weekly openings, so I can be there for Bastille Day, then big away till mid-September, after we finish in present building.
13. Just now remembering to turn strawberry watering off...and ate some in the dark.
14. I am just hearing a good 'Something Understood', R4 and will listen to excellent actress, Harriet Walter on DID soon. Wonderful i-player.
15. We saw a grand old man of a turkey oak en route to return chequebook yesterday. Handsome girthy knobbled and gnarled, with a flowering magenta clematis mazing through to a great height, around 35'.
16. mumoftwins has posted especially to help someone facing great difficulty.
17. I want to wave the magic wand for Frith. Be your own person for your own self regardless, Frith. Let Mr No be needy in his silent withdrawn way if he must. You are not prescribed, proscribed, described by any of this.
18. Big Ben chimes midnight. More Wimbledon this arvo.....goodo!!! Rafa -nothing else to say.
19. Mr T's boys and girls have been accommodating and my unused £480 in vouchers have gone back for re-issue. Sent Recorded Delivery on Monday...back with me as ordinary post in my letterbox on Thursday!...quickly rang and said what had happened[have all the p/w]and re-posted. Should be o.k. - looking to Greece next Easter, or Portugal.
20. 'The heatwave continues tonight...' R4 meteo woman has just said and there are good night life undergrowth rustlings and little night creature sounds outside. Deeply, deeply soul-replenishing...not so far removed from Mole in 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' and an excellent Bonne Nuit to all.
sparrer - please say when you need your soap for washing soon:-). I can but say it's maturing nicely.

Frith well done for making the decision to stop being treated so appallingly and start enjoying your life properly again
A bit of a see-saw here day but we can't expect a smooth ride all the time!
1. Ex OH phoned to say he's been admitted to hosp for an emergency op but didn't have time to grab his address book so could I phone his sister to tell her. I've not spoken to her for 11 years, although OH was the 'guilty party' his family blamed me, due to my drinking. Anyway the good part was she recognised my voice straight away and was lovely, we had a long chat and seems she's missed me as much as I've missed her
2. Called into the farm shop and the pet foods I needed were both 1/2 price so I bought double quantity...shan't need any more for weeks!
3. Also got two hanging baskets of impatiens on bogof so the front of the house looks respectable again
4. Had a good lunchtime meeting with friends, with free food(I had a Penguin!)
5. Didn't have to close the door or turn the light on til almost 10pm
Sleep well

Belated happy birthday CCP
Quick five pleasures for Sunday:
1. Making a cafetiere of really delicious coffee just before we set off very early this morning. I've been working my way through the dregs of the half-finished packets over the last month - don't have real coffee that often - but they have all been finished up now with nothing wasted. I reached the final (unopened) one yesterday so I decided to treat myself.
2. Spending the whole day at an indoor sports event and seeing lots of friends. The DSs and I were all officially helping so we stayed indoors which was just as well because the heat outdoors would have been unbearable.
3. Drinking the very large orange juice with water and ice that I bought at lunchtime - made do with freebie water for the rest of the day.
4. Standing under one of the building's cold air ventilation fans. I found it early in the day and returned to the exact spot whenever I needed to cool down big time.:D
5. Getting back to the car at about 5pm, switching the engine on and seeing the temperature indicator which read 38 degrees:eek: It had been parked in the sun all day. It cooled down as we drove though thank goodness and the journey home was wonderful with all the windows open.
Sweet dreams

Morning
Pleasures for yesterday:
1. 8 mile walk aroung Virginia Water and Windsor Great Park with my friend. It was very hot and we didn't think we would do that much but we changed the route we normally take slightly to find a bit more shade.
2. Bit more garden clearance today.
3. DD hanging out the washing while I was walking and it all being dry when I got home
4. OH home after a weekend away.
5. Felt a little unwell in the evening, too much sun but after a couple of paracetamol and a short lie doen felt fine
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Had a strange day yesterday.
1. Took DS2 and one of his friends to school for a trip. Seeing them all waiting to leave laughing and joking and playing hockey was good. No it wasn't a hockey trip either.
2. Went to in-laws and took them out for the day. M in law enjoyed it but F in law was confused most of the day.
3. Rhurbarb and gooseberries from in law gardens
Realised how short a distance that they could both walk but DH had to say at end of day that F in law should no longer drive and M in law became distressed and said that it meant that they would lose all their freedom. F in law didn't comment.
It made for a strange to end of day.0
