Hi Everyone,
Just popping in to say have a great weekend and happy belated birthday Kittikins!
I read some very sad news this evening. My school friend runs a charity in South Africa helping very disadvantaged children to learn to read, get an education and helps them get into university. Sadly their office was fire bombed yesterday (the anniversary of the first multiracial elections). Everyone is ok but is has completely ruined all their books and computers. So sad and such a complete waste!
On the brighter side of things...
1) Am in sunny Valencia (actually it is raining but anyway...)
2) Had a very large lunch (provided by one of the suppliers I was visiting today) so didn´t need dinner
3) Nice walk around the old town... it´s very pretty and well worth a visit
4) The hostel where I am staying is very clean and friendly
5) copius amounts of free tea at the hostel... free is good!
Night everyone...
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
5 for today.
1) Glorious, sunny weather yet again.
2) Went into town and did the 2nd hand shops. Got a sun hat for smaller son and a vest top for me.
3) On the way home, over the hills (very high road looking down across the county), I stopped in a pull in to answer a text and looked down on 2 buzzards circling. Very strange to see them at that angle, I watched them for quite a while.
4) Sons went to school in shirts and ties as "wedding guests".
5) All boys happy this evening and we stopped out until after 9pm playing tennis/sword fighting with sticks.0 -
Evening all
Got a little catching up to do so my list will be a mixture of yesterday and today.
1) Visited the (free) Winter Gardens and then strolled around the park
2) New fern is all potted up as are my Money Tree transplants
3) Two beautiful sunny days
4) Two lots of washing dried on the line
5) Found another RTC steak today
6) My favourite chocolate dessert is on offer
7) My mum and stepdad paid for dinner out last night:p
8) Friend popped in for a surprise visit
9) Still incredibly chilled out
10) Still not smoking - 5 weeks on Saturday
Hope you all had a good day
C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Evening all. A cool day in more ways than one, not a lot going on indoors and a bit too chilly for me to go out to do gardening.
Ladyhawk how dreadful for your friend and the charity, and how sad for the children whose work has been lost. I just hope the morons who did that don't get away with it.
crickett cranberry and lime sounds an interesting combination. I drink lime a lot, and like cranberry, but don't know if I could imagine them together
Carolyntia 5 weeks and feeling chilled, sounds like you've definitely joined the ranks of the ex-smokers
1. a lie in as the decorator isn't coming again til Saturday
2. nsd
3. still using grey water on the garden, only had to fill the watering can from the tap once. Hoping the forecast is right and there'll be some rain tomorrow, gardens and farms are getting desparate now
4. Caught up with SuperScrimpers on 4OD. Not learned anything yet but we live in hope! Then watched Caroline Quentins Through India, which makes me want to be back there!
5. Shan't watch 'the wedding' tomorrow. Perhaps I'm a grumpy old woman but I think it's in poor taste to spend £25m on a wedding when we're in the middle of this dreadful recession. Don't shoot me, it's just mho and hope everyone who does watch enjoys it. I'll spend some time looking for more OS ways to supplement my pension which the government sees fit to make me pay tax on.
Night night sleep tight

Sparrer I won't shoot you but I am looking forward to watching the wedding! Coverage starts in 2 hours at 4pm & I'll park myself on sofa & enjoy it all! All the major channels are covering it here & all the usual programmes are on but they will be 'Royal Wedding-y'! Love it!
Well I'm on earlier than usual. We are having internety problems at home, it keeps cutting out mid use, so I'm down at the library, enjoying the quiet- for a library it is quite a noisy place but not too bad today!
1.Up very early....our landlord was coming to do house check, so up early & tidying, cleaning etc. Expected him at 9.15am but he never came until 10.10am.....much frustration on my part! Anyway, all well!
2.Popped into school to grab more Mothers Day stall stuff to wrap over weekend. It is such a welcoming & friendly school, it's a pleasure to go in and help.
3.Went to next town's supermarket & had a leisurely stroll round. Got a few bargains & won't need to go shopping over weekend. Came out & OMG a spider went in my car! I had seen it on windscreen (outside) at traffic lights about a mile away....it had obviously clung on for dear life...then when I opened boot to put shopping in, it ran of roof & into my car.....oh, I hate them & no way was I getting in the same car as it was! I'm sure I was a sight to behold with car doors open, trainer in hand (for whacking purposes!) Anyway, I got it with much muttering & hyperventilating !
4.Sat on my bum for half an hour when I got back & ate some half price Easter Chocolate.....did I need it? Nah, but it tasted good!
5. Pleasure number 5 still to come but I am looking forward to sitting & watching the wedding.
So whatever you do ,enjoy the start of your long weekend.....none for us, just a normal Sat/Sun here!0 -
Morning all, here's my few pleasures of yesterday:
1. Got a bit more weeding done from my borders. Unfortunately, there are lots of council owned bits of grass around us which have loads of dandelion clock things sending seeds into the garden, so it's a never ending struggle. Still, at least they weren't the deep rooted variety. I felt better for getting them done though.
2. When I popped into the chemist, I managed to pick up a pair of cotton gloves on a buy one get one free. My hands have been suffering awfully from dry skin over the last month, so these combined with a decent hand cream overnight should be just the thing.
3. I saved the seeds from another pepper, and they're drying on the windowsill to be sown next year. I've already got one saved, so I'll offer these out to those I know.
4. Managed to go 2 days without washing my hair! I'm trying to make my shampoo and conditioner last a lot longer by not washing my hair everyday, so this is a great sign for me.
5. The Wii Fit told me I had a Wii Age of 22 - whoo hoo.
6. The blackbird is still sitting on her nest. No change yet, although I think we'll know about it when the chicks hatch.
7. Got talking to a neighbour about rationing and old-style ways.
I don't think we're going to watch the wedding today - DH has said he might, but it depends on what he has got to do today. Myself, I wouldn't mind seeing what the dress is like, but if the weather is nice I'll be out in the garden. This is an extra holiday for me, so I'm going to make the most of it. Have a good day, everyone.

Ladyhawk - I'm so sad about the destruction of your friend's office, if they are going to be able to set up again, please PM me as I'd like to contribute in some way, either by sending some books or money if I can. I'm a passionate believer in education for all and it breaks my heart when sick idiots destroy other's hopes:(
xx
MHagster - bet that chocolate tastes even sweeter after you were so good for Lent, enjoy every morsel
Yesterday's goodies - not really OS in the strictest sense, but made me happy:
1. Had a great working day in London, with my travel paid for
2. Sitting on the train I wrote myself a to do list that was a mixture of personal/work related items, and got all bar one item done!
3. Want to give my darling OH a medal - he must be exhausted after walking a long way yesterday, without complaining one bit (he has severe mobility issues and sadly I think he will need a wheelchair soon), to take me out for the best birthday present ever
4. The kindness of strangers who let us swap seats with them as the flipping ROH sold us tickets for the end of a long row which meant after trying to get up a couple of times to let people in, was very hard for him. I helped him get to a flip down usher's seat at the back, and noticed that in front was a row with just 2 seats, so explained our situation, and they moved into our seats. We were so grateful[I'm going to send a letter of complaint to the ROH as we had stairs to negotiate as well, and I heard him explain about his mobility problem when he booked; we should never have been put where we were, grrr.]
5. Saw the most beautiful ballet ever, and I'm sure OH enjoyed it really, just pretended he's not a fan of men in tightsThe music was awesome too
6. A lovely Gatwick Express worker arranged for a wheelchair pickup at the airport where I'd parked the car so OH was able to relax and be chauffeured in style
7. Our journey to and from the ROH from Victoria was far longer due to the extra traffic generated by the presence of campers along the wedding route - took us well over an hour and a half to get back to the station!! But the pleasure was seeing all those happy people who doing something that will make them happy and generate memories for life. Not my cup of tea but glad for them.
8. OH took me for a lovely inexpensive meal before the performance
9. DD is happily having her first sleepover at a friend's at the moment and will be watching the wedding with her chum so that OH and I can recover from our night out!
10. I managed to avoid buying expensive drinks at well-known coffee chains which is my usual "treat" to myself when I work in London
11. I did buy lunch but sensibly went to Sainsbury's for a £3 meal deal rather than the usual deli sandwich place. Would have been better to take my own, I know.....0 -
Evening all.
Ladyhawk - that's dreadful news about your friend's office. Please drop me a PM if she's collecting for repairs as well, please - I'm another keen supporter of educational charities and would be very keen to help.
Pleasures for yesterday:
1) Another sunny day.
2) A really yummy lunch of tuna, pesto and avocado in a wholemeal roll - and very OS as all three fillings needed using up.
3) Ordered this summer's supply of hayfever tablets online, for a fraction of the price I'd pay in a shop and with cashback too. :money:
4) Had a phone call from my DF to say that he and DM had arrived safely at their hotel and he was enjoying a beer in the sunshine.
5) Went to a pub quiz with friends, including one lady I haven't seen since just after Christmas, and we won!
Today's pleasures are more MS than OS, being mostly shopping-bargain related:
1) Long lie-in this morning, despite a very patriotic (but rather anti-social) neighbour blaring out Rule Britannia over and over again from about half past eight. (And I'm sure that's why I had a headache when I eventually got up, and it was nothing to do with all the cider I drank at the pub quiz last night at all.)
2) Got some new clothes I needed for next-to-nothing thanks to a voucher I had from doing surveys.
3) I got to Marks & Spencer just as they were going round with the rolls of yellow stickers. I was very pleased with myself for being so restrained in the face of RTC temptation, but I did pick up a large pack of their very good smoked salmon for £5, which has now been divided into portions and frozen.
4) Went to B&Q to use the 15% off voucher advertised in the MSE email, and got lots of RTC bargains as well, including a terracotta pot which was labelled as reduced to £1.50 but which the lady on the till accidentally put through for 10p. (I didn't realise what she'd done until I got home, otherwise I would have pointed it out.)
5) I'm making a batch of sausage, bean and mushroom pasties / calzones for dinner, which will stretch one large sausage for three meals - very OS of me!
Have a lovely evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
5 for today (Friday).
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Walked to the local pub with boys.
3) Not money saving at all but had an Indian takeaway for tea.
4) Went swimming with MrN and sons.
5) Having a rest on the sofa now, stove lit (its gone chilly) and iplayer on just now. :-)0 -
Hello (after a rather long break
). At long last I've got around to making my way back here... MS activity has slipped and slided into chaos but I'm dragging myself back on track again so it's not too awful.
My five for Friday:
1. I slept in then dozed through the morning which was lovely and very self-indulgent. (I didn't want to watch the wedding.)
2. I finished up eating some little boiled sweets I had which came in a really pretty tin. I really needed the tin to put my dressmaking pins in so I reckon that eating the sweets was an MS necessity.:)
3. We went to my parents for supper which was delicious and very welcome.
4. My mum has given me all her double-ended knitting needles. She no longer knits because of arthritis. I've just unravelled the back of the cardigan I'm knitting for myself because it was coming out too big and I've started again using double-ended needles. It's so much easier and lighter to hold and I've got it well underway again.
5. Some good conversations with teenage sons today - there are days when they are such good company and that's a joy.
Sweet dreams
