5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Hello all, yesterday was a bit of a mixed bag to put it mildly!!
1. OH and I watched a bit of the wedding and admired the dress etc
2. DD had a fabulous time at her sleepover and her friend's mummy was very happy with the wine and oh so amazing even if I say it myself choc I gave her to say thank you
3. The sun shone
4. OH gave me another lovely present
Now the not so good bits.....I fell over in the house and had to go to A&E to make sure I hadnt broken an already fragile legThankfully I haven't but it's going to take some time to heal
6. My DD was amazing as she witnessed it and got me an icepack and a towel, cuddled me and brought in a neighbour to help - very calm under pressure
7. Neighbour was fantastic - called the paramedics, scooped DD up to have a sleepover at her house, packed me an overnight bag, called my parents and OH and supported me brilliantly when the shock wore off and I started sobbing
8. Paramedics and ambulance crew were awesome, helping me take my mind off the worry and some of the pain. I had a lot to tell my Doctor to be DD this morning about the journey
9. My dad dropped everything and drove down nearly 100 miles to be with me in A&E
10. The nurses and doctors who looked after me were lovely
11. Thankful to myself for keeping my crutches from previous injury so I can hobble about a bit!
12. OH who has been in touch very frequently, bless him, there's not much he can do on a practical level, so telephone support is hugely appreciated
13. My dad again who has cleaned most of the house, done washing, bought shopping and refused reimbursement, and has been looking after me and DD
14. My brother, who is on his way to look after me and DD this afternoon for however long we need.
15. My mum for calling me lots as she can't get down here with dad as she's not well herself
It's at times like that that I get upset that my exOH didn't stick around and I feel desperately lonely, then very quickly realised I have family and friends who take things in their stride and look after me as much as I hope I would/do look after them.0 -
Evening all.
Kittikins - ouch, you poor thing! I'm glad your leg's not broken, at least, and I hope the pain eases soon. Very well done to your DD for staying so calm in a crisis - it definitely sounds like she has the right temperament for a doctor.
Broomstick - welcome back to the thread. It's nice to hear from you again.
1) Another nice lie-in this morning, this time undisturbed by overly patriotic neighbours.
2) Delicious brunch of smoked salmon and avocado on HM bread, using some of the RTC salmon I bought yesterday.
3) Found some RTC bread rolls in the supermarket to make the breadcrumbs I needed for dinner tonight, saving me from the indignity of having to buy breadcrumbs.
4) Got a lot of gardening done this afternoon, including potting on my small army of French beans. (I had trouble getting the seeds to germinate last year so this year I planted twice as many, with predictable results.)
5) Caught the end of the afternoon snooker match, which turned out to be quite exciting.
6) This post on a blog I'm very fond of. It's rather silly, but it made me LOL! :rotfl:
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Evening everyone
My five today:
1 - Made a huge pan of carrot and bean curry from some sorry looking floppy veg at the bottom of the drawer, it's cooling in placcy boxes now for freezing
2 - Washed and line dried all that needed doing
3 - DS (2) and I planted out our beans and peas, and made bamboo tepees for them to grow up
4 - DS and I took a bath after said planting and the water was so black we had to shower afterwards - I love how he doesn't care about getting mucky when we do gardening, he gets stuck right in!
5 - Cheap beer and tortilla chips now while I watch BGT - DS in bed, DH out - bliss!*** PROPHECY_GRRL****** DEBT FREE AS OF 17/10/11 - I DID IT!!! ***0 -
kittikins: you poor thing! I'm glad your family have all rushed to help you! Your DD is a wee star!
Take care x
CCP: we love Cake Wrecks site! It's hilarious & shocking what some 'bakers' get away with!
Well I'm still having internety problems, our connection keeps coming & going! Mostly going, which is frustrating when you are mid something and it goes!
Saturday's pleasures (as it's now Sunday here!)
1.Another nice morning, 21o for an autumn day is just perfect! Warm but not too hot!
2. Popped into next town (in my car!).....compliment ( I think!) from DD1....'your driving's MUCH better mum!' er, thanks dear! Only been driving for years!
We needed to get a birthday gift for party ,girls were going to and shop assistant wrapped it beautifully at no extra charge. Had to get prescription & got it at a good price (have to shop around over here, charges vary!). Got our Sydney photos developed and waited for the hour service as it was much cheaper than straight away service.
3. We had sausage sandwiches for breakfast (reduced sausages!) and very nice they were too!
4. Girls were out for afternoon at party, so we took our son out for lunch, sat outside & enjoyed sunshine whilst we ate.
5. Favourite part of day......we saw REAL kangaroos. Our son sees them often when he goes out on his bike, so we were out in car & realised we would be near where he saw them. So we went on a kangaroo adventure in the car. I was thrilled, there were so many off them. Hopping and running & sometimes they walk on all fours. Some had joeys in their pouch. It was getting near dusk time and they are active then, throughout day they lol in the sun,so we wouldn't have had a good view. Amazing!
6.Went to pick up girls from their friends......an hour later we left! After chatting with the mum !
7. Finally got online to check out the beautiful photos from a beautiful Royal Wedding. I so enjoyed watching the whole event! I bought (usually read for free!) a newspaper to see photos & read all about it, DD2 had asked for photos to keep and DD1 had asked for special coin that was issued with it.....so DD2 went 'awwwwh that's not fair' so very kind newsagent gave her an extra one! I would have been like 'tough!, your sister asked first!' however, they are both happy!
Today I need to wrap so many things for PTA stall.....left it to last kick!
DD2 is singing in a concert,so need to go & see that at $34 a ticket!
Need to iron!
Have a good weekend!0 -
Evening all
Ladyhawk - So sorry to hear about what happened to your friend. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help - can't really do anything monetary wise but I can always get together stationary donations
Kittikins - Glad to hear it wasn't a break. Your DD is a little star. I'm so pleased to hear that your family are there to help
1) Just checked the library website and I've got a few books waiting to be collected
2) Another beautifully sunny day
3) Bit of a catnap on the sofa
4) Neighbours cat popped over yesterday for an ear scratch
5) Best friend rang last night and was on the phone for an hour and a half - always great to catch up
6) Got a bit of a lay in as the builders had the day off :j
7) Still not smoking but I've had some very intense cravings - I thought I was passed the worse - but still hanging in there
Hope you all had a good day.
C xAs my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Kittikins - very sorry to hear about your poorly leg. :-( Well done to everyone who helped you though. :-)
Quite tired so a quick 5 from me for today (Saturday).
1) Bit of a lie in.
2) Sunny AGAIN! No rain for 3 weeks now...
3) Sons snidey, grumpy and bad tempered all day. But I got through 14 hours of it with Lego, football, feeding them, Lego, catch in the garden, Lego...
4) Had my magazine in the post (friend gets me a subscription for Christmas each year) plus something I have ordered for MrN's birthday.
5) Went off to town after lunch with MrN and sons were pretty appalling there too but we all cheered up when we got in the park and played football and tested everything out on the playground area. And had ice creams.0 -
Thanks for the 'welcome back' CCP
Love the cake site - made me laugh.
Kittikins, I'm glad you were surrounded by kind and competent help - that's the best kind of insurance policy.
My five for Saturday:
1. More knitting accomplished. Yesterday in my post on here, I went and called my 'new' knitting needles 'double ended' and I didn't mean that at all, I meant cable needles. Anyway, I'm still delighted with how easy it is to knit with them and how much faster it is.
2. Have been ironing on and off all day, including all my shirts that never get ironed because it's too much hassle and suddenly it feels as if I've got a whole new wardrobe without spending a thing. Some of these shirts have not been worn for a year.
3. Weighed myself and I've lost 2lb.
4. Went out to our nearest stone circle to watch the May Eve sunset with DS2. Just lovely. Huge orange sun. Few people, and those that were there were very smiley. Glorious rolling countryside. It made me very happy.
5. Picked a little bunch of flowers while I was there. Just one of each and all really common and growing like weeds. They are now in water on the kitchen windowsill.
Sleep well.

Oh dear Kittikins, what a horrible thing to happen, hope you recover now. DD sounds a very competent young lady, bless her, you've done a great job of teaching her how to cope in a crisis. Well done Kittikins DD :T , and the rest of the family for rallying round.
MHags yummy sausage sandwiches, real comfort food. How amazing to just be driving along and see kangaroos. I did eventually watch some of the wedding, there was very little else on! I thought the dress was very elegant and understated, both she and her sister had more class than some of the younger Royals, who wore some very strange hats
Welcome back Broomstick, you did what any good MSE'er would do, and not waste the sweets so you could use the tin. A double whammy, I'd say
1. Cleaned the car at last - expect rain! T-cut it as well, and removed all the little marks around the keyhole (yup, my car is opened with an old-fashioned key! It has wind-y windows too, so at least there's nothing electric to go wrong). I've had the T-cut for at least five years and surprisingly it still does the job.
2. Visited Mr M and bought mini rice cakes and a bottle of fizzy (reduced offers, of course) for tomorrows car boot sale. Looks like it's going to be warm and their food and drink is far too expensive
3. The salad leaves I planted on Thursday are already showing! Just tiny pinpricks of green but every plastic cup has loads coming up. Can't think why I planted so many cups, looks like I'm going to be selling lettuce at car boots soon!
4. postie brought me a good sized bottle of skin oil with SPF30 to trial, which will be ideal for sunbathing on my upcoming holiday. And I get £4 paypal for reporting at the end of two weeks use. I do like the survey/trial sites
5. Ann Widdecombe on Piers Morgan. What a super interview, she was hilarious!
Better get to bed or there won't be any car boot in the morning, and I'll have to busk for my suppers!
Night night, sweet dreams

Sparrer: my new to me but really quite ancient car has no central locking and wind-y windows too! I keep forgetting I have to unlock passenger door to let kids in and also keep slamming door on DD2's face as I forget it's a 3 door hatchback & she needs to come out my door! But heh! it's got wheels and goes
Well, been an alright day here, dull but mild so washing got dried....just need to iron it, school shirts & bed linen!
1.I was up for 3 hours before anyone else woke up & it was nice just having that time & quiet to myself.
2.Had to go and see DD2 at her choral concert. Thought ticket was expensive. It was a 5 hour event but they were only singing for 20 minutes, so there was no reduction for amount of time you were there! However, they were very good & the choir on after were excellent too.
It was set in a very historic building with beautiful grounds & I had a very nice chat to a granny that was there!
3. Had a very delicious piece of lemon meringue pie......as I selflessly let my husband have the last scone!
4.Went back to see the kangaroos with the camera this time. I am thrilled seeing them, some had joeys in their pouches! Hope we have some good photos.
5.Came home & phoned one of my best friends & my sister ,so nice to chat with them.
I still need to finish wrapping stuff for Mothers Day stall and need to make our bed before we can get in it tonight ,so I should really step away from the computer!
Have a good day!0 -
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your kind words about my friend's charity. I am not sure if I am allowed to post their wesbite - but if you want to read more about their work: http://ikamvayouth.org/
Carolyntia -thanks for your kind offer - unfortunately posting stuff to SA is just so expensive. I sent two small bags of easter eggs to my parents and it cost £6.50!!!!!
Kittikins - ouch!!! You poor thing. Glad to hear that nothing was broken. Your DD is clearly a credit to you.
Sparrer - what is T-cut?
1) Slept in my own bed... I love travelling but also love coming home!
2) Met up with a friend who lives in Valencia. It was lovely to sit on the beach in the sunshine (even if it was far too chilly to swim) and I was wearing jeans!
3) My plants have survived my being away for 5 days and my seedlings are ready to plant out.
4) Lie in this morning
5) My lovely kitty cat was really pleased to have me home... he is a little sweetie pie.
Have a great day!
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
