    Afternoon everyone!
Pleasures from the past day or 2:-

    1) Really appreciating - more and more - how wonderful it is to be out of the rat race :j On a cold wet morning, I can snuggle on the settee with puddy tat, research bargains/savings etc online, chat with friends - whatever I please. I've done my stint - 36 years working full time - I feel I've earned it
    2) Baked some yummy lemon muffins in my new fan oven. LOVE my new cooker
    3) Reading this thread
    4) Signed up for Twitter - what fun! Keep in touch with people mainly via FB, but like following various websites etc via Twitter as it's quick and easy
    5) Some nice things planned for the next few days - meeting friends, crafting
    6) Have decided to have a go at self employment - I have skills I could utilise to earn some additional income, since i no longer have to meet myself coming backwards to meet targets, so that the managers and directors of my previous company can earn their fat bonuses

Good to see you back dundeedoll :T - as I type, puddy tat is snuggled up on her new squashy pet bed, looking supremely content with life :D

    Hope all are well,

    Pam x

Hi everyone, the sparrer is gratefully back in her nest, got over the horrid jet lag which luckily only got me on the return journey, and now raring to go - just as well as I've had a letter from the HA saying they're coming to refurb my kitchen next Mon. Only a year late so mustn't complain :p.

I've got the pics on the comp but have no idea what to do after that, so am going to visit a lovely friend tomorrow who knows all about these things, so hopefully I can put a link on.

    Blessings, where to start?

At No 1, of course, and the gratitude I feel that my sobriety (6 years tomorrow ) and learning here to live OS since, have allowed me to go on such an exciting adventure
    2. Took the cheapest return flight, which was a bit inconvenient as long stop-overs, but saved up to £850.
    3. Had BnB at the hotel and planned to eat out once a day with fruit or similar for lunch, but it was all just too tempting! The hotel was a/c'd, has a super pool, rooms serviced every day, each one with a newly fitted wet room. The staff weren't only extremely helpful, they were great fun.
    4. Had a beautiful dull pink silk kaftan made, it took the tailor 24 hours to do (and a sarong. I know I took sarongs, thanks to a lovely OS'er, but a girl can't have too many in that heat :o). Total cost was £7!
    5. Went on an overnight cruise through the backwaters on a rice boat, had the whole thing, which included an air conditioned double en-suite cabin each and a staff or three, pilot, steward and chef, to ourselves. How posh! The shrimp fishers, which include elderly ladies, dive down to the pots and collect the giant fresh water shrimp, then paddle their canoe right in front of the boat so the pilot has no alternative but to stop. A put-up job for the tourists, perhaps, but still nail-biting fun to watch. 1 kilo of shrimp, average 6 in total, cost us £4. It really was one of the most memorable dinners.
    6. I rode an elephant, poor creature! Also fed crocs at a sanctuary. I was a bit reluctant to lob the hunks of meat but didn't fancy the alternative  ;)
    7. The poverty was desparately sad, but the resort we stayed at has an amazing scheme. When a customer leaves a tip for a meal half goes to the 'town council' to provide a daily meal and a bed for the beggars. Provided the beggars stick to the rules (not too much pestering etc) it's ongoing for them. It was also very noticable that more Asian people than tourists gave to the beggars. They look after each other and there's no noticable prejudice. (Andf we call ourselves civilised? ;))
    8. Bought a smart new suitcase for £3 for all the souveniers and linens for my second bedroom which will have, you guessed it, an Indian theme :)
    9. Flights and hotel came to £700, I took £500 spending money and came back with £100. No cards as I don't have any, so all in all a really OS style adventure. I could have backpacked if I was 'a little' ;) younger but it worked for me, and I won't be afraid to risk something as different again :D

I'd better stop there! Just wanted to say it's good to be home and back in the fold, and hopefully I'll get that link on tomorrow

    Love and hugs
    S x

Sparrer - lovely to see you back and I'm very happy that you had such an amazing time. I for one would love to hear more about your travels, well done on bringing back £100 of the £500 you took, that's fantastic :):)
  • My five for toda are

1 - HM toasted malt loaf for breakfast
2 - The daffs cut from my garden have opened
3 - On leave today and have taken it easy
4 - Seeing my youngest neices and nephew at mums
5 - Opening the front door this evening to the smell of bread baking and soup cooking
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

    Hello Peeps.

Welcome back Sparrer, I'm glad you had a fab adventure. Soooooo envious. We met a wonderful elderly lady who was backpacking round India when we were in Goa. We have put it on the 'To do' list for when we retire :rotfl:

    2 Days of pleasures...

    Tuesday

    1. Took DS2 to see Gnomeo and Juliet. (Had a free ticket from Coke Zone). Very surprised that it was 100X better than I thought it would be!

    2. More free moisturisers using up the last of my Boots £5 vouchers.

    3. Chilli at friends house. Haven't seen them in ages, so it was nice to catch up.

    4. Took DD into town to show her where the good 2nd hand stall is in the market for when she wants to do vintage shopping.

    5. Spent £10 in the freezer shop in the market and filled the freezer.

    Wednesday

    1. Cheap haircut at University hair salon.

    2. Popped into Oxfam on the way home. Lots of bargains including some good labels for DS1.

    3. Butter Chicken in the slow cooker smells lovely.

    4. Orange Wednesday to see Yogi Bear with DS2. (Good job that was 2-4-1!). DS2 enjoyed it and we ate lots of chocs!

    5. Got lots of YS bargains when I stopped off at Mr T for curry powder.

It sounds like I have spent the whole day spending money, but I promise it was sensible OS spending and I feel very happy that I have got value for money. :o Have a great evening! HE x

    Evening all.

I'm really, really sorry to come on this nice, cheerful thread and moan, but - I've just got home from a rainy, busy, stressful day and discovered that some #!$?*#! has stolen my parking space again. And the cat's being a flamin' nuisance (what I call 'yo-yo mood' - going in and out, and in and out, and in and out... ;)). And I've had an irritable letter from my electricity supplier demanding that I make arrangements for them to read my meter within the next seven days (I hope they can do weekends as there's no chance otherwise). And the present I wanted to buy for my DM's birthday is out of stock until the end of March, so I've had to do a rapid re-think.:mad::mad:

All in all, things aren't going great! Anyway, minor irritations aside (and I know they are only minor, really):

    1) My new computer at work has a sound card so I can listen to the radio while I'm working. :j (On headphones, obviously, as not everyone will share my taste in music.)

    2) There was a parking space only yards from my front door, so losing my parking space was a nuisance rather than a genuine problem.

    3) I've received the seeds I ordered over the weekend already - all I need now is some warm, dry weather to plant them.

    4) I've also received the new book I ordered, and paid for with vouchers from doing a survey, so I'm looking forward to curling up with that this evening.

    5) Another easy dinner - a HM ready meal curry that I just need to defrost and heat up.

sparrer - it's so good to read about your holiday, and I can't wait to see the photos. :)

frugalpam - good for you for enjoying your time at home - you're quite right that you thoroughly deserve it, although that doesn't stop me being a tiny bit jealous. :o

Jevvers - welcome back to the thread! :hello:

dundeedoll - I hope you enjoy the cider cake - it really is delicious, I promise you!

Ladyhawk - :wall: to your car. I hope you manage to get it fixed (and properly fixed) far more quickly this time.

Right, I'm off to defrost a curry, and ponder whether to open the bottle of wine that's chilling in the fridge. It would be very naughty of me to have a glass on a school night, but I might just do it anyway! :o

Have a very pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    :mad:Two words.... Stupid car:mad::(:cry:
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
