5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all. Hope you're all doing OK in all the snow.
sparrer - wow, what a palaver! I'm glad you got the photos sorted out in the end, and got your well-deserved cuppa.
newlywed / Ladyhawk / Kittikins / Kittikins's DD - get well now, all of you!
My main pleasure for the day was meant to be a visit from my sister and her partner, but that got cancelled as they were worried about getting stranded by snow on their way home.I've got a few replacement pleasures, though:
1) Waking up to find the world had turned white. I can't resist turning back to five years old at the sight of snow.
2) Mooched up to the shops, more for the pleasure of walking through snow than because I couldn't cope with having run out of onions (although I was quite pleased to get a half-price bag of them).
3) Watched some of the showjumping from Olympia. We used to go every year when I was a kid, and I still find showjumping an essential part of Christmas.
4) Wrapped all the presents I have at home. (The rest are still in transit, and I'm starting to get a bit worried now that they won't get here in time.)
5) Made a slow-cooked lamb and veg stew (slow-cooked in the oven, that is). It smells wonderful, and I'm not sure I can wait for it until dinner time...
Have a nice evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi everyone, warming vibes all round.
1. Gorgeous snow, 8 inches.
2. Weather caused cancellation of a very unwelcome visitor. Result!
3. Girls soo funny playing in the snow.
4. Yummy HM carrot and coriander soup for lunch.
5. Coffee in bed watching the snow fall, can't beat that! Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Hi all
Poor Kittikins, Kittikins DD, Ladyhawk and Newlywed, with all your illnesses - I can only echo CCP's words: Get well NOW! (((COLLECTIVE HUGS)))
Sparrer, thanks for good wishes, I still hope it is just a one-off and that my action nips it in the bud. I am planning to get an Experian report to see if anyone has applied for any credit in my name, too. But there is not much else I can do at the moment so I am just letting it lie for the time being and hoping for the best. Another OS friend called me yesterday after reading about my issue here, and she thinks it might be related to that cheeky weird guest I had a few months ago, the one who ordered stuff in his name to be sent to my address as if it was his - a possibility but not a certainty so I cannot go accusing him unless I am certain. But worth keeping in mind.
Broomstick, my milkman works with Milk and More, their website address is www.milkandmore.co.uk and they send me occasional emails with offers. So far I got a few freebies including a bunch of Cadbury chocolates and a packet of chocolate digestives, all for the price of a pint of milk each time! He is really good, so even if the milk is more expensive than at the shops occasionally I still buy from him - also I want to encourage the service to remain because it is very good for a lot of older people in the community who rely on him for their daily shopping. The chocolates are a fantastic deal, though, I agree!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - The snow makes it all look so much prettier!
2 - I saw a few birds on a tree outside my house, I cannot tell whether they were blue tits or great tits (incidentally, I tried to look for images on Google to identify them but got some very different tits images LOL so I gave up) but they were of the tit family. If I did not have two cats I would put food for them in my garden but I would be horrified if the poor little birds became the food! So I just enjoyed looking at them from the other side of the road.
3 - Unfortunately DH and I could not go to our friends' for carol singing and dinner because of the weather, but took advantage of the snow storm to go to the supermarket for a big shop and it was half empty, because nobody braved the snow. We trekked there and back on foot and it was cold but lovely.
4 - I had a dispute with a customer services assistant at the supermarket, she would not accept my coupon because she said that the product is not like the picture on the coupon - never mind that the coupon said "Any product of xxx brand". She called another colleague, then yet another and they treated me really badly, like if I was an inconvenience. Eventually they agreed to put the coupon through, but in really bad grace. I went to complain to the store manager - but I was so upset that I started crying. He was really pleasant and also extremely apologetic, told me that he would mention it as a training issue to the customer service manager and gave me a £5 gift card. Not that £5 is a price for my upset but his attitude made me feel better (and the fiver is at least a little bonus).
5 - A couple of local friends are coming to dinner here so we are still doing some socialising even with the snow (and DD is cooking most of the stuff - Polenta with tomato sauce).
6 - Last but not least (I should whisper this one!) I am delighted that DH's *&%%$£* martial arts class is closed until the first Thursday after Christmas!
Have a warm and safe night everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Grrr, didn't realise the showjumping was on, I also used to go every year as a child, drive up the M4 past the Lucozade building with its slogan, happy days!
1. Managed to go up to't village in the snow to get our eyes checked out by the pharmacist, DD has some drops now which she is refusing to let me put in every 2 hours, double grrr. But, I have managed a couple of doses in the worst eye....
2. Treated us to cheapish lunch in the pub and had a lovely time with DD
3. Lovely chat with one of my oldest friends this afternoon and we have arranged to spend NYE at hers, yay! I usually spend it alone, like most nights of the year, but it'll be fab to drink prosecco with a lovely friend who's been there for good times and bad, and who loves DD like a daughter
4. Strictly come dancing!!I'm torn between Pamela and Kara to win.
5. The prospect of getting into a nice fresh bed tonight, a simple pleasure, but the nicest night of the week! And I'll have my human hot water bottle again, as there's no way DD will let me sleep on my own whilst I'm poorly......any excuse0 -
Evening all,
Sparrer - what a palaver all for a couple of photos! Bet you releived that is just one more little job out of the way. I agree with you about the Christmas decs. I don't do any either as I am also away over the actual day (that and I am a bit of a bah humbug)
CCP - sorry you didn't get the pleasure that you were hoping for. Glad that you found some replacement ones though
Gratefulforhelp - lol at your pleasure number 2!
Caterina - Lol about all the tit talk and your endevours to find out what type they were. Sorry about the unpleasantness at the supermarket. The Saturday after the 7/7 bombings I went to give blood as I knew someone caught up in the days events. I wasn't able to give blood that time and I ended up being hysterical. The poor nurse wasn't used to people getting hysterical over not being able to give blood!! Anyway... glad you got something out of it. By the way... what is the Nonnymouse forum?
I'm still snuffly and have a cough. I also have sinus headacheMost annoyingly mt heating system malfunctioned this evening. It is a hot air system... and somehow a snowball came down the flue.... grrr.... I don't understand how these things work so will have to give the people who installed it last year a call on Monday morning.
1) Using my sewing machine for the first time. I was going to make a patchwork bag as a christmas present for my SIL. I wasn't following a pattern and it all got rather complicated. Anyway it turned out good enough for me to use but not good enough to give someone. I have learnt a lot from my experimenting though.
2) Having a small oil heater to keep the chill out.
3) Chatted to my oldest brother on FB this afternoon... which was lovely until I asked him what time he would be coming over to my other DB's house on Boxing Day... well it turns out that he wasn't planning on spending any of Christmas with his family... and he is going to spend the entire time with his finacee's family and hadn't bothered to tell us. He is lovely but ever so selfish! He thought that it would be ok to do something on the 28th... IT'S NOT!!! It would mean that I would have to go into London twice over that weekend and I am just not going to do it. I will spend Christmas day with my other two brothers and my SIL and we will enjoy ourselves without him.
4) Feeling a lot better today (the after effects of the Chrismtas party have worn off)
5) Yummy whoopsied crumpets with HM plum jam for brekkie
6) Yummy HM whoopsied sweet potato and pumpkin soup with whoopsied rolls.
Night all... stay safe

ETA a cheeky 7th - exchanging emails with a lovely man all day. He was my old sensei from when I did jiu jitsu. We always had a bit of a thing but I always put a stop to it because he is 17 years older than me. He just wanted to make sure that I was getting better.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
will give you my Saturday pleasures even though it's now Sunday here!
I am usually very organised for Christmas, I love the mad rush of cramming all school events, busy time at work, going to church, smugly having everything wrapped by November, cards written ages ago, putting tree up & decorating warm ,cozy house etc ...........however this year is totally different for all of us. I had given out all family/friends gifts before we left UK, so it's just us to get for this year. I put the tree up one afternoon when it was absolutely boiling hot & sunny and it just felt wrong! School doesn't 'do' Christmas like our old school did. Not found a church yet and I'm not working yet. So just very different & I don't feel particularly festive at all................anyway:
1. We went Christmas shopping yesterday to a big mall reasonably nearby and while it was busy it wasn't crowded.
2.Brass band were playing carols (now this did upset me and I started crying:O( ) but it was lovely to hear them play.
3. We had a nice lunch & such a good laugh, the fact that we are all together as a family of 5 has to make everything worthwhile.
4.I found a Yankee Candle stall & bought 2 melts. I love candles but you are not allowed to bring them to Australia because of quarantine rules. So it was lovely last night to have the melt burner on & as dd1 said 'oh ,it smells like Christmas!'
5.We watched a carol concert last night that is on every year on TV. It is filmed in Sydney and was on for about 3 1/2 hours........so no tears with this just sang along to the carols!
6. I did some wrapping (remember ,normally done by now!), I love wrapping gifts up. However I don't have the same amount of hidey holes in my new house!
This is the first time in 18 years we haven't had a cat swinging from the top branches of our tree as we left our pets back home, so my lovely dd1 has put photos of our cats in the tree!
I hope you all keep safe & warm from the snow and can enjoy it's beauty.
I wish that all of you that are feeling poorly start to feel better.
Mhags0 -
Awwww, that's so cute of your DD Mhags to have the cat photos in the tree0

Evening everyone.
Thanks for the milk delivery link Caterina - I've bookmarked it and will keep an eye on it incase they start to deliver in our area.
My five for Saturday:
1. The snow has just been beautiful - but I can say that from within a warm enough house without a need to venture out other than to measure how deep it was.
2. Talking to family on the phone.
3. A very plain, but very tasty, supper of omelette, steamed spuds, carrots and broccoli. All organic.
4. Spending some lovely time talking with DS1 who has a lot going on at the moment.
5. Starting to go through the cupboards ready to restock in bulk our non-food supplies ready for the new year.
Stay toasty warm everyone and sleep well.

Ladyhawk I agree, I'm a bit bah humbug about all the shopping, spending, visiting, eating etc for just one day. I do feel that if people want to see each other they'd bother to stay in touch, rather than only the obligatory greetings card. Don't know why but it seems to be me who does all the phoning, writing and visiting throughout the year, I often wonder what would happen if I stopped but I'm afraid to in case...but enough of the miseries, blame the snow
Sorry to hear about the mix up with your DB, they can be thoughtless so-and-so's sometimes, can't they? Anyway you'll enjoy the company of your other siblings, it's nice you can all get together
Caterina your friends suggestion is really quite logical. I hope it's not him though, as the culprit will no doubt be in no end of trouble. Poor you being made to feel so uncomfortable by the sa, all over a picture on a piece of paper. They really should have their training in place now, not 'mention it' to customer services at some future date.
Kittikins can't believe Pamela was outvoted, I was rooting for her - perhaps partly because of her age - as I really thought she was marvellous. Not disappointed at the end result, just would have prefered P to be second. Good news about your NYE, have a super time
Mhags sounds like a lovely family time doing your shopping in the mall, I'm sure next year you'll be all settled in and have Christmas organised again as you usually do
Dont know if I'll make 5, it's been such a quiet day..
1 nsd
2. made 2 tea loaves, still haven't cracked how to get a soft outside but will keep practicing. I think I need to cook them slower for longer
3. Had a chicken curry made with left over and frozen remains of sauces from previous take away curries
4. DNeighbour invited me in for a cuppa and to try out the hm biscuits her DD made. I can vouch that the threeI had were delicious. They took the biscuits out when cooked then covered the tops with a little whipped egg white, sprinkled with sugar and popped back into the oven for a few minutes until it had set, looked almost caramelised. A new idea to me, and very tasty
5. Postie brought me, or rather the mogs a tub of treats which they loved. She's a lovely person, never lets us down, and will get here even in the blizzard she worked through today. Definitely an envelope for her as well as the dustmen (not pc but can't remember what nonsense they're supposed to be called) this week
I made 5. Please take care if you really have to go out, wishing all the poorlies well now, and everyone sweet dreams

Just about to go to bed but here are my 5 for Saturday.
1) Wrapped Christmas presents and had a good tidy.
2) Went with my sister to Ludlow. It was really quiet! (and VERY cold and snowy).
3) Had a Mr Dave's balti for tea (its a Midlands thing).
4) Phoned my sons at 7pm and the ex actually answered the phone. I said to smaller son "Is it cold in Xtown?" and he said "Hang on"... called his brother and said, "M, is it cold? Yes, it's cold, Mummy" :-D They seemed OK.
5) Went to MrN's to play board games and have just got back. :-)0
