  • For today and yesterday (working days):

1 Slept well and not had late nights since going back to work.

2 Have had compliments for 'my' marzipan and mincemeat teabread.I forgot to say that this is a recipe from the BBC's Good Food '101 Cakes and Bakes',full of lovely things to make and eat.

    3 Day off tomorrow.

4 Really enjoying the 70's 'Survivors' even though it looks so dated.I remember watching it when it first was shown on the telly, and being absolutely petrified by the episode with the rabid person.I was about 10 years old at the time.Anyone else remember it?

5 Seeing a friend tomorrow, she's coming at lunchtime,so think I'll make some soda scones that we can have with soup.

parsonswife8 nice that you could see your granddaughters before they went off for Christmas.Hope you get lots of 'updates' to help you through their time away.

Good nightto you all and stay warm (it's snowing here, set to snow throughout the night apparently) x

Darn it, just typed a post and lost it...grrr

    1. Feeling a bit better today, think my plan of staying in bed as much as possible is paying off, as walking DD from the car to school really tired me out :(
    2. Earned MAJOR brownie points with my boss by sorting out a problem for him before going back to bed and speaking/coughing and spluttering on the phone with him, he was very appreciative of my dedication :)
    3. DD made me another milkshake and solemnly informed me that when I'm thirsty or feeling ill, I need to let her know so she can make me another :):):)
    4. A friend popped over with dinner for us as she thought I wouldn't want to cook, bless her, what a kind thing to do :)
    5. Received £4 LV from doing a survey that I'd completely forgotten about
    6. Sold another DVD, have made over £30 this week!! Woohoo!!
    7. Pay day tomorrow, yippee. Must remember to be sensible this year, last year I went a bit crazy in the sales, admittedly buying things that have been useful but spent far too much and had to eke things out for most of January....
  • Caterina - Two Grrr faces  on your behalf today. One for the plumbing expense and the other for the disconcerting email situation. Hope this was just an isolated incident for you.

    Here are mine for today:

    1) Had a bit of a spend day (not the pleasure) but enjoyed shopping locally in Cromer.
    2) Great charity shop haul - a mega glass 'Aridor' jar full of 1000+ buttons (yes, I did sadly count them :o). We googled 'Aridor' because it was such an interesting looking jar and it's an almost-antique type (from 1912 onwards) jar from the USA which would've been used to store sweets in soda/ice cream parlours. I also found a stunning Monsoon dress in my size :j Will be my christmas dress. Plus some wool and a book that my son wanted.
    3) Finished off this years lessons with the boys - christmas fun time tomorrow.
    4) Fish and chip supper tonight.
    5) Crocheting while watching 'Coach Trip' on 4OD.

WOW!!! Both of those finds sound wonderful!

Caterina How lucky that you just made it to get the train to Portsmouth and went on to have a lovely day with a friend.

Hope both your 'problems' get sorted ASAP

Another late night five from me:

    1. Lovely clean house today. DS1 finished off various jobs, as requested, while we were out. :T

    2. Turning heel on sock #1. It's an easier pattern than the ones I have used before so it will be interesting to see if it looks as good when it's done.

    3. Driving in the snow this afternoon as it blew horizontally at the car. I know it sounds silly to find this a pleasure but it always reminds me of space TV/film programmes where people are driving their space ships at ridiculous speeds through galaxies of stars with all the little points of light rushing at them and it makes me smile. :D Glad to get home though - it's blinking cold out.

    4. Giving in and buying a manufactured Xmas wreath base to decorate for the front door - we had a bit spare in the £ pot to pay for it. Last year we made from scratch but, quite honestly, I don't think it will happen this year and we have fresh holly and last years decorations and sticky hook for the door so we will half-manufacture one instead and will have the base to use again in future years if needed. Perversely loved going through the garden centre looking at all the other lovely stuff on sale and saying to myself 'Do I want it? - Yes please', 'Do I need it - No thank you!' and going on by.:D

    5. Sorting and plaiting into sensible lengths all my embroidery threads so that they are untangled and easy to use. I have a project that I intend to do over Xmas.

    Sweet dreams

Kittikins get well now. What a lovely DD looking after you so well with yummy banana milkshakes. I spoke to soon about no snow days, that'll teach me to try and reinvent the wheel . Congrats on the LV and the dvd sales, long may it last
beachbaby wonderful news about your 7 hour sleep, and the kindness of a friend to send you some help-in-a-box. Hope it keeps up :)
Tealady excellent news about the dinner, and the BA voucher. Hope the New Year goes on being good to you
Mhags sounds like you might recruit a convert to MSE in your new friend. Well done on the walk and bowling, and great news that your DH is home
ampersand hope you managed to have the test, and there's nothing that can't be put right in a short time. Sorry to say I'm rejoicing, as are most Brits, over the result. We have to win once in a while ;).
Caterina well done on catching the train and having a good days bargain shopping. So sorry to hear of your horrible happenings, thank goodness the plumbing one can be rectified with less work that originally thought. Just a thought re the mystery delivery, someone couldn't have ordered you a present and had it delivered directly to your address? It does seem odd though, a firend or family would surely have told you to expect a parcel. Thank you for the mention of panettoni, I also like the Lidl stollen but neither last long enough :o
parsonswife hope you don't get snowed in when you are, it isn't looking good anywhere is it? :( Sounds as though you've got some good warming meals ready just in case though. I'm sure the DGD's will be back before you know it, thrilled to see you and tell you all about their holiday :)
marmite good to hear your tea bread is appreciated - I'll be making it at the weekend. I remember the Survivors but not the particular episode you mention, sounds grim!
Blimus many congrats on your sweet jar find, sounds like it might bit of a treasure. Perhaps take it to a antique-type shop and see if they know anything about the make. You may even find a button or two among the thousand + ;) of interest. Well done also on finding your Christmas dress :)
OrkneyStar hotties are much more homely than blankets, which tend to make me too hot in bed. Bless your DS with his 'new' cuddlies, at that age they don't care where they come from, they love them just as much as any new toys :)
candygirl you must be glowing at your little DGD saying Nan :D. How good of her to help you clean the floor, she sounds a real little treasure :A
dundeedoll I so agree with your sig :D

    1. Visited DD and the pets, took her a pressie of a diary which has all the show fixtures. I got the company to use a super photo of her first show dog for the front cover, she loves it :)
    2. Stayed til DGD2 came home from school, arranged to visit them on Monday after my exercise class
    3. Posted a parcel to DS and his family, it was done up tighter than Fort Knox, then when I opened the fridge for something I saw the little nets of chocolate coins I'd forgotten to put in the parcel for the DC . Luckily I had an old padded envelope so they've gone separately
    4. Called at the farm shop for some veg and found a 3kg box of satsumas for £2 :D.
    5. Just got home as the snow started, it looked like it was never going to stop but once eveything had a good covering it went away. The cats love it, it's so funny to see two white figures jumping up and down in the snow.

Sounds like we're in for another bout of grim weather. Can I just mention checking on any elderly people in your area. We see them out and about in warmer weather but when it's like this we don't so much, and a quick knock on their door will probably be very welcome.

Stay safe and keep warm, sweet dreams

eta Broomstick please send your DS my way, I'd love to go out and come back to find all the housework done! Re your No3, what a perfect description, that's just what it's like :D
  • Good morning all. Lovely to read everyones pleasures, as always. They should bottle and sell the good vibes on this thread - they'd make a fortune. Mine for yesterday,
    1. Really enjoyable day at work. I work with some great people as I have mentioned before.
    2. Homemade broth from one of my clients trying to feed me up.
    3. Cranking up the volume and thinking of dundeedoll when kylie came on the radio. (X)
    4. Leftover cottage pie for tea - no need to cook.
    5. Going for a drink with a certain person after work :D
Have a good day all. Please be careful if you are experiencing snowy weather. None here as yet! X
