I am going to join in ,if I may?
I recently moved to Australia with my 3 kids to join my husband who has been working here.
I have been found the last couple of weeks a bit emotional but I know I have a lot to be thankful for so thought if I concentrate on the good things ......!
I was an ardent money saver back home & wish I had more opportunity to save more over here as it's so blooming expensive! I'll keep looking tho'!

    1. We had a trip into the city yesterday and it wasn't too hot which made a pleasant change.
I've been struggling with the heat & humidity!

2.It was lovely seeing everything decorated beautifully for Christmas (another source of emotional struggle:o and hearing carols and tunes being played in the shops.

3.We watched 2 different street entertainers do their acts which were so funny & my husband was selected to 'help' in one of them ,which made us laugh even more......good to laugh!

4.We have beautiful flowers in our garden & beautiful birds: parrots, cockatoos and lorikeets fly over the house....we even have a duck which has started visiting . These do make me smile everytime I see them.

    5. I am with my family, all 5 of us together, which means more than anything. We have spent so long apart through work commitments.

How's that for my first 5?

Just off out for the day but had to check on my friends first, of course!
mhagster big welcomes from blighty to the land down under :hello: , your first post was amazing, drew me a beautiful picture of a place I'd love to be right now instead of this horrid cold, frosty one. So pleased for you that you'll be with your little family and you have a new adventure to start the New Year :). Some things seem difficult at first but as one door closes another opens, and looks like yours has opened up a whole new vista. Keep up the positivity (is that a word?), we're not so far away wherever we go in the world today

    Be back later

All sorts of touchpoints I read in my catch-up...after long NZ skype with D.who who has skin cancer removals on Thursday, but bigger MRI on 22/12...still see him in Standard 3, wearing that fairisle v-neck sleeveless pullover.
Kiwiblue - if you only knew...every so often I've found myself wondering about you and fed your name into the mse pot to see whether you've been around. You are now and yes, D has been saying about drought, empty dams[Northland].
Dundeedoll - if there's strength in numbers, please add my care and wraparounding to take to your friend.
Welcome mhagster, lovely post - hope you'll flit across the Tazzie one of these days and touch down in the Further Down Under.
    ############
    1. Thankful again[always] for Skype.
    2. Milder yesterday meant I spent morning with camera in ebay action[continuing shortly] - really necessary to cover my coming petrol. Usually need 2>3000 miles' worth - yes - not kms, miles - esp. as I'll be crossing over to the Var for a bit, too. Despite all glitsches and infuriations, common with ebay, nonetheless hugely grateful for it.
3.Saw a little bird in the darkness, around 6pm, having a bath last night. It was robin. This morning I've replaced the ice disc it's become overnight with fresh water and he was out there as soon as I had come in. It does lift the heart to see them doing their little birdie things.
    4. Hadn't realised scd was in 2 parts and I entirely missed both of them, so was catching up with Friday when skype pinged earlier and will catch up with yesterday at some point. So, this is yet another thankyou i-player pleasure. I'll listen again to Frances Wood's DID's, too, only heard fitfully so far - she had a George Brassens in there somewhere.
    5. SPECIAL NUMBER FIVE - didn't recognise writing as I grabbed post quickly and made it to bus. Frith - that was so kind and what a terrific photo! Your boys really are handsome. As I no longer 'do' Christmas as such, receiving this from you, utterly unexpected, feels really special. Just taking another look - WHAT good-looking boys!
Please make a point of saying so, from me.

I've been thinking about this, despite its being nomb.
Did your solicitor have no input re: access/objections?
Would exOH try and present 'continuity of access' to weigh for him and against a custodial sentence? Was the granting of access made in ignorance of the outstanding conviction awaiting sentence?
I'm sorry if I should not be thinking aloud on this - but I can't push it from my mind.
    ##########
Will continue ebaying today - 10 done, slowly, so slowly yesterday, all to go on around 8 tonight.
Sparrer - I have olive oil soap on my 'bring back' list....we will free bus pass meet.

  • Hi Sparrer, Ampersand, Broomstick and others.

My apologies for not posting over the last year. It has been hard coping with day to day events, and while you all on here were such a huge help to me during my darkest times, I spent many months not going near a computer.

However as healing is a slow progress, and I now am starting (just ) to feel more in control.

Oh is continuing to make slow progress on his recovery (from cancer )

We made a huge lifestyle choice and have moved from the village where we have spent the last six years to a tiny homestead about 20 kms away (Ampersand its in the Horowhenua near Foxton if you know the area. ) I look out towards the Tararua ranges, which are snow covered in winter, but at the moement are green and lush

we still spend 2 days a week in the village, but can now be there when we want to be, and are no longer the focal point (while it was all love and concern, it was not helping us to move on with life. Now we can be there when we want to be, and if we are not feeling strong enough to cope with other peoples concern and love, we can stay where we are.

As we have spent most of our lives on smallholdings and living a self sufficient lifestyle, we have found it very hard to be the centre of well meaning if misguided concern.

So now we have purchased a rundown, undeveloped farm with so much that needs to be done, and so many milestones for OH and I to accomplish and to gain satisfaction from doing so

Sorry to ramble, but I felt that I owed it to you all to explain where I have been for the past year.

    Cheers
    Jennie
  • Hi everyone. Sorry for not posting over the last week - it has been mad. The car has been at the mechanic's getting a service (which ended up lasting 3 days), so we have been going to Mum's so I can get picked up and taken home rather than take public transport. Only thing with that is that we've not been getting home much before half nine every night last week, and I'm feeling more than a little frustrated with driving in general. Argh! Anyway, here are some recent pleasures:

    1. Feeling a bit of a renaissance in myself of OSly ways. I'm determined to make 2011 a year of saving money and general all around thriftiness!
    2. Scented candles. I got 2 new ones on a BOGOF at Mr M the other day - one honey & chocolate and the other winter berries. The house smells lovely.
    3. Being invited over to a friend's house for lunch. That was nice, but I also found out they're a bit nervous of cooking for me! Don't really know how I feel about that, as I don't think of myself as imposing. :s
    4. Being brought a cup of tea in bed this morning.
    5. The Christmas Tree. I really enjoy looking at it with the lights on.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    KB xx

  • Thankyou everyone for your kind birthday wishes.
Dundeedoll - that's such sad news about your friend's son. An absolute tragedy.
Ladyhawk - Can't believe how long James have been going! I went to see them play at a local school in their early days when I was 15 (25 years ago!!).
Kiwiblue - lovely to 'see' you again.:hello: Good to hear that your OH is recovering. Will really look forward to hearing about your new homestead.
Sparrer - so glad to see that you're back up and at 'em :D
Welcome mhagster :hello:. That's a great first five!

Had a very quiet day yesterday:

    1) A NSD.
    2) Started to wrap the presents which I've been keeping in two hessian sacks in the outhouse. I made my own tags and crocheted some 'ribbon'.
    3) Watched 'Still Folk Dancing'. Brilliant! It inspired me enough to start watching a couple of accordions on ebay :D Probably another half-baked idea though :rotfl:
    4) Made an amigurumi sumo wrestler for DS1. A pair of fingerless mittens from a 20p ball of charity shop wool and started on an amigurumi Ninja for a friend's son.
    5) Hot mince pies with squirty cream :D

Off to get our christmas tree soon. Yay! :xmastree:

    Evening

Blimus - belated happy birthday :bdaycake:
Sparrer - So glad to hear you are feeling better

dundeedoll - Hugs to you and your friend
Frith - hugs to you as well
Kiwiblue - Lovely to see you posting again and good to hear that your OH is recovering.

Haven't posted for a couple of days though have been reading as things have been a little bit strange here. We had some very unpleasant family news during the week which could lead to untold heart ache just praying that things aren't the way we fear. Plus someone I used to work with wwas buried on Friday, she was only 38.

Pleasures for the last couple of days:
    1. Staff christmas dinner, had a few too many drinks so was a bit under the weather yesterday. It was nice to be out though and we raised a few glasses to S as she enjoyed a good party.
    2. Lots of savings in Mr.T yesterday using a combination of offers and vouchers saved over £30
    3. Quiet afternoon to myself at home as both DD and OH were out
    4. Easy dinner of Chilli for dinner with cheesy nachos
    5. Cup of tea in bed this morning thanks to DD

Knew I could get to five if I thought hard enough about it.

    Hi all

Dundeedoll, I am so sorry about your friend's son, I hope that the cure will help and I shall pray for him and his family.

On a different note, thanks for your kind words re. Mr C and me - we are "work in progress" even after all these years, we love each other dearly but are very different people and sometimes fall out BIG TIME, and when it happens it is very painful, so I am really glad for the support I get here when it happens.

I also hope to have breakfast with you and the others in Birmingham, we will have to co-ordinate it when we get together!

Kiwiblue, it is lovely to have you back on the thread and to hear about all your news, best wishes for all your big chages in lifestyle!

Sparrer, you are so right, I really do keep myself busy busy, don't I? Today I am spending time at home, though, chilling out, for a change.

    A warm welcome to mhagster!

Tealady sorry about your family difficulties and hope they get sorted out. How tragic about your former colleague, only 38, so sad.

Before I write my pleasures for today I want to add a couple additional pleasures for yesterday:

6 - I did not go to Somerset House, instead I went to the King's Road, where every shop was tempting customers with snacks, mulled wine, fizzy wine, mince pies etc...M&S were having Champagne tasters! So I really did not need to stop at a cafe for refreshments, I just needed to enter a few of these posh shops and accept their offerings gracefully (and gratefully too!). As I am an almost 100% non-drinker, after a few tasters I was well merry! But enjoyed myself immensely wandering from posh shop to posh shop, including the wonderful Liz Earle's skin care shop, which is fantastic! And I popped into Hobbs, which have already started their 50% sale, but of course I shall wait for when the sale reaches 70% off, then I shall revisit them!

7 - Back home, after so much mulled wine and various snack, decided to have a healthy dinner (DD, her BF and DS were all delighted about this): homemade red cabbage coleslaw with pomegranate vinegar vinagrette, baby spinach and orange salad, avocado and tomato salad, with nice crusty bread and followed by a (yellow stickered) carrot cake (well, it IS healthy, innit, it got carrots inside!).

Here are my pleasures for today:

1 - Woke up all fired up by an enthusiasm for the healthy life, so I prepared myself a nice healthy breakfast of sauteed onion, spinach and tomato with an egg poached on top and a slice of fresh pineapple.

2 - The weather is lovely, the sun is shining!

3 - Met up with a friend and went for a long walk through the park and then down the Greenwich peninsula, all the way to the shops.

4 - After shopping we stopped at the cafe for tea and biscuits (really healthy though, berry oat biscuits, one each! We are being good!).

5 - DD and her BF went to the Farmers market and got a lovely big loaf of sourdough bread and some apples.

6 - Healthy lunch, tomato soup with slice of nice bread, 1 apple.

7 - Another friend called and will visit later with her knitting, so I am planning to save my afternoon biscuit for when she comes along

8 - DH is going to come back tonight, I might be asleep as he is coming back late but it will be good to wake up near him.

Have a good evening everybody xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
