Sparrer - I never peak at presents
. I still remember when I was little, opening all my presents early when I found them under the bed. No surprises for me! It actually look all the fun out of Xmas!
Anyway, for today, mine are;
1. An hour on my own in the house while DH went to collect his car. A big mug of Hot Chocolate and my book.
2. four books from the charity shop at 50p each!
3.A nice home cooked dinner of roast pork and potatos.
4. A film ready to watch later on from lovefilm.
5. Matt winning the X factor woo hoo!0 -
1. Good chat with my counsellor this morning
2. Worked from home
3. Saw DD's singing group with her school, sooooooo cute
4. I've sold 4 DVDs in 24 hours on Amazon!!
5. Am looking forward to a very early night in about 10 minutes' time as I'm feeling a bit rubbish.
6. Bowl of weetabix for dinner tonight, yum yum yum
7. DD reading this over my shoulder, tee hee, very clever sausage practicing her reading with me, lol.0 -
Evening all.
Kittikins - I'm sorry you're not feeling great - get well now, as the saying goes.Enjoy your DD's company, even if her 'guests' are less welcome.
Frith - I really feel for your poor son - panic attacks are nasty enough when you know what they are.I hope you / the counsellor / your GP manage to sort something out to help him.
Blimus - I have to say I agree with your sons - what is better than free food on a day out?
sparrer -:drool::drool: at your pizza turnover - that sounds so good!WD on your bargains.
mhagster - your new home town sounds like a nice sort of place to wander round. I hope you and your kids settle in to the new school as well as you did at their old one - it sounds promising from your description.
katholicos - that's so good to see that you've heard from your DS - what a fantastic Chritmas present! I hope things stay settled between you, to make a really good Christmas.
Introuble - I'm sorry to hear about your problems at work. I hope things get sorted out quickly and easily (if that's possible in that sort of situation).
A couple of late pleasures from yesterday:
6) Wore my new jumper, 'bought' with Mr T vouchers, to the pub quiz, where it was greatly admired - even more so when I told people it hadn't cost me anything. :money:
7) The kind landlord put the snooker on the pub television for me, so I didn't miss any of it. And, as I had today off work, I could watch it to the end without worrying about having to get up for work this morning.
And for today:
1) Started my day off with a very long lie-in. I won't say what time I eventually woke up, but it was nearer lunchtime than breakfast time.
2) Spent what was left of the morning reading my book in a patch of sunlight, with a cat on my lap. Very peaceful!
3) Wandered down to the shops in the sunshine...
4) ...and bought a few Christmas presents. I've left it worryingly late this year, so I really need to start crossing things off my list before I run out of time.
5) Ordered my mum's present over the internet, again using a voucher from doing surveys so it hasn't cost me a penny. :money:
6) Boiled up the joint of bacon that was meant to be cooked yesterday (it's defrosted now), and it's not bad at all for a cheap joint. (Although I am now remembering why I don't do boiled bacon more often - I can't resist cutting off 'just one more mouthful' every time I go into the kitchen - there'll be none left by dinner time at this rate!
)
7) I've used the liquid left from boiling the bacon to make a lentil and vegetable stew, which is smelling quite delicious.
Have a lovely evening, everyone.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi,
Not posted much lately as to be honest since DS started seeing his counsellor things have been on a pretty even keel & I have not had to struggle to find pleasure in my days. I already knew that was a blessing in itself, but now reading of those of you who are having grief with their sons I feel doubly blessed for the time being, although it will be a long while before I stop expecting "Kevin" to reappear. Hugs to all of you.
Any how I thought I would post today as I have had some special pleasures this weekend.
1 On Saturday DP & I drove, first to Southampton to visit my Dad who I have not seen in the longest time, we had a lovely catch up over a cup of tea & I showed him the latest photo's of my GKS. He now feels very old(he is a sprightly, young at heart 72yr old).
2 We then drove down to my sisters just outside Fareham & I got to see my nephews which then made me feel old
3 We then gave sis & bil a lift to my mums where another sis & bil met us & we had a very enjoyable cheese & wine evening, where we also managed to all speak to our other sis & bil on Islay
4 A bit wicked this but DP overenjoyed the wine & was highly amusing in his grumpiness Sunday morning.
5 A lovely walk along Stokes Bay with Mum,sis ,bil, my two neices & their three dogs on Sunday morning, certainly blew the cobwebs away.
6 I got to see the spinnaker tower all lit up at night.
7 made it home safely to a nice tidy house & two very excited doggies.
Best Wishes to all

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
frith - I echo what others have said in that I hope you can get to the bottom of your son's panic attacks and help him to feel better. Poor thing
And poor you for having to watch him feel this way.
On a happier note - I had been wondering where Jex had got to and saw that she had posted on another thread. She says hi to everyone and that she will hopefully be back soon but that's she busy keeping her head above water. I miss Jex's funny posts!
Here are mine:
1) Not getting much done for christmas. But making lists about what I need to do!
2) A NSD
3) Library visit. Found a Victorian Christmas book.
4) Reading while waiting as my son does his swimming lesson.
5) Hearing from JexDFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Hi all,
So many emotions around sons, today! As a mother of a son (who was extremely difficult and challenging in his teenage years) I really understand the mixed feelings of utter love and rage that a mother-son relationship brings!
Katholicos, it is wonderful that your son contacted you and I hope that things will progress well. I completely understand the pain that his move to his dad must have caused and really wish it for you and him to recover a loving peaceful relationship.
Dundeedoll and Katholicos, it is so hard when teenage boys turn against their mums, but if I can give only one piece of advice, it is: stick in there, a 15-16 year old male needs to separate from his mother, it is quite normal (alas, it is extremely painful too, for the mother!) to be rejected at this stage in a boy's life. I have been there with my son and when speaking with other women (who had been through it with their sons) I was given exactly this advice, which I am now passing on. While it was happening I did not believe it would ever end, and suffered badly for years, nearly went mad with pain and rage at his appalling behaviour and callous rejections. He is now 21 and (thanks God!) he is back to his normal, considerate self. He will never be the cuddly, huggy little boy of the past, but I can live with his understated gentleness, I have learnt to read the signs and now know that he still loves me and that he really appreciates me as his mum. But it took a lot of pain and despair before we got to this point. I hope that my words give you both a little hope.
Frith, I am sorry about your boy's panic attack but glad that you managed to find out about them sooner rather than later, so you can provide some intervention. I really hope that the doctor will be able to reassure him and even provide some therapy/counselling if appropriate (these days they swear by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for panic attacks, it seems to be very good and it is offered on the NHS).
Welcome to vouchersrme!
Here are my pleasures for today:
1 - It was my last day at work today. But, was it really? Something happened, they made me an offer that I could not (quite) refuse. My boss asked me whether I would want to go on a temp (entirely flexible) basis approximately one day per week, which of course would suit me completely! I said that I would go but would prefer to go on a self-employed consultancy basis and she thinks this might be possible. Now I have to wait for the monetary offer and will take it from there, but I don't think they would offer me any less than I was being paid, so it would be a win-win! Update to follow in the new year!
2 - Lunch with my colleague at the lovely little vegetarian restaurant near work.
3 - After work, osteopath treatment, the last of this year and he found my mobility much improved (and gave me a chocolate biscuit!).
4 - Back home, found that DH had made a lovely soup with the last of our beans. I made a nice red cabbage coleslaw with grated apple and a vinaigrette dressing.
5 - Cup of tea and (homemade, by my friend) macaroons at the computer, courtesy of DH.
6 - Anticipating my trip to Portsmouth outlet shopping centre with my friend tomorrow (tickets £2 each return, from London Waterloo, courtesy of Megatrain!). Will have to try and restrain my spending but still sure I shall find a few nice little bargain treats!.
Off to sleep now, need to be refreshed for my trip tomorrow. Good night all xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
