5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2
Comments
-
Evening all,
Blimus - that is sooooo spooky - I was literally thinking about Jexy 10 seconds before I ready you post about her!
I am definitely coming down with the lurgy. I will be very annoyed if I miss the wor Christmas party as a result of this!
1) Lots of yummy hot tea to sooth my tight chest and dry throat
2) 121 with the boss when well
3) Kitty curled up with me on the sofa instead of a hot water bottle (it's a pleasure even though he has very muddy paws!)
4) Popped into MrA to pick up from food (my cupboards were very sparce!) and I also picked up a few bits and bobs for my Pots of Gold. I have bought some golden ale to put in for my brothers and my work secret santa. I was just wondering if my work colleague would like golden ale and I remebered that his wife works in that particular store. I was going to ask at the customer services if she was working but couldn't remember her name. Anyway I was having trouble with the self service machine and was helped by Rosie... who I then recognised from pictures on my colleagues desk as his wife! What a co-incidence!
5) I called my DB to find out if my SIL would prefer Ale or cider in her Pot of Gold. He said she wouldn't like either which I thought was a little strange... so I think my suspicions that she may be pregnant may be right! I really hope so because I think they have been trying for a little while and I know she was a little upset when my FSIL announced she was pregnant in September.
night night everyone - keep toasty warm
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Kittikins So pleased DD is back with you...........I did laugh when I read your post mentioning 'visitors' I remember DS2 once coming back from his dad's and leaning over his homework book and I literally saw them drop off of his head onto the book
Mhagster You certainly sound as if you're trying hard to 'fit in' :T to OP shops
Sparrer How thoughtful of you to get such a lovely gift (Moet) for your friend. I often treat myself to an ice cream cone whilst watching Strictly's It takes 2.
Thank you for your very kind words regarding 'Kevin' - much appreciated.
Kiwi Wishing you both all the very best. Sounds like you have had a very difficult year...............hopefully your new place will be the safe haven you need.
Kitchenbunny Hope the car's all sorted now. I love my candles too!
Blimus Homemade tags and crocheted ribbon sounds lovely!
Tealady Huge hugs for you............hope things don't turn out as bad as you're fearing they might. So so very sad about your colleague.
Caterina Glad you were looking forward to waking up with Mr C.........nothing like waking up and being able to snuggle.
Kings Rd sounded wonderful! I'd love to have a look around Liz Earle's shop. :rotfl: at you being merry.
Just read your new post - thank you very much for your advice - so nice of you to take the trouble..........:A Yes, they have given me some reassurance and hope. Anyway, this is meant to be a positive thread, so will quit my 'whinging' and focus on the positives! Glad the osteopath treatment has helped you. Have a lovely time in Portsmouth - £2 is Fab!!!
CCP :rotfl:at puss wanting brekkie at 4.15am. Bacon & resulting stew sound very tasty.
Introuble So sorry your problem at work is still causing you upset. I do hope you will be able to sort it without causing a lot more. Rocky road slices......yum yum!
Ladyhawk...........the cold ..........the parking ticket. Hope today's been better for you.
Primrose Pedometers are a brilliant way to do more walking. An early night with hot water bottle, woollen bedsocks and a good book sounds wonderful...........hope it was!
Marmite Seeing as you said the other day that just getting up, making the bed and getting dressed was what you aimed for a while ago, you have done sooooo much and should be very very proud of yourself! :T
Beachbaby Number 5 of your post certainly merits a :jor :j:j I hope you manage to find a cure for your sleeping problem very soon
vouchersrme Hello! Nice to 'see' you on this thread - and looking forward to seeing you in B'ham!
Frith Really feel for you (and DS) As Caterina said, at least you are dealing with it. I'm sure the doctor will reassure him and set wheels in motion if needs be. (Ps How old is your eldest? Am sorting out a few bits in DS' wardrobe - mainly tops - and if any good to you could meet in Worc after Christmas..........PM me if you want)
WIll post this now and maybe pleasures later.Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Dundeedoll - whereabouts are you? (PM me if you don't want the world to know!) I'm just over half an hour from Worcester and would like to meet up. Sons are 10 and 7 (but tall for their ages and smaller son is fairly skinny).
Thanks to all other posters who have mentioned my older son. I won't reply to each in turn but I have read each post. Have had a bit of a nightmare evening...
MrN's son4 is in quite poor health and went downhill very rapidly this evening after tea. I had to decide whether to get MrN back so sent a couple of texts saying a quick trip home might be imminent. Then a rather short, to the point text! MrN got home in time to call the ambulance :-( Anyway, everyone is back now and his son5 was going to stay here overnight but he has gone home too.
Anyway, 5 for today!
1) Went to see smaller son's concert this morning, very good and the first thing that has put me in a Christmassy mood!
2) Got some jobs done after - made bigger son's appointment at the doctors, popped to Sainsburys etc.
3) Went to my sister's new house to sit with my mum who was waiting in for the BT man (who never arrived).
4) Made rather a tasty tea.
5) Dealt with the crisis mentioned above with some sort of icy calm - don't know where that came from!
6) Don't know if MrN will make it round this evening but that would give me the chance of an early night and I'll put something good on iplayer. Already got the hot water bottle!0 -
All this talk about difficulties with sons has made me remember that I used to play a secret game where I'd set myself a target each day of making sure that I deliberately said 5 or 10, or whatever, different, positive, affirming, appreciative things to each of my sons that day, things that I'd really needed to think carefully about, not just throw away comments. The trick was to engineer the conversation in such a way that none of it looked contrived so that they didn't realise what I was doing. When life was being dire it helped me keep my attention on the good stuff - at least some of the time and, of course, it was good for them too
. I'd forgot about my secret game, so thank you for that. I think I'll go for it again tomorrow!
Frith, this is just a thought but have you tried doing relaxation and visualisation type exercises with your son? Sometimes people visualise wrapping themselves in something (eg. a magic blanket, a shimmering light, a 'force field', favourite colours etc) for calm and protection. If you practise enough times, you can call up the image, and the feeling of safety that goes with it, to order. Of course getting him checked out by the GP and getting to the root cause of his worries should take priority but might something like this help him, to feel a bit more in control if nothing else?
My five pleasures for today:
1. Getting some more winter/safety kit for the car boot, some wellies for DS2 and a bag of grit. I like it that I'm gently getting organised.
2. Finishing off all the Christmas prezzie shopping at the shops. The only things I haven't got now are a few deliveries or packages that should be arriving this week in the post.
3. Finding a very nice tin of biscuits for DS1's girlfriend's parents as a small gift.
4. Knitting a good section of the new sock. I'm really enjoying watching the patterns emerge from the wool.
5. Doing some very productive planning for my writing - I think knitting (or handsewing) helps me think in the right kind of way.
Sweet dreams everyone.

mhagster you're in the one place I'd love to visit. I had a very dear friend who was born and raised in Melbourne, unfortunately he recently passed away but he told me so much about it that I feel I almost know it
.
Primrose I get the same sort of cards (and send them), I often wonder why we do it though, as if we liked the people enough we'd make an effort to keep in touch throughout the year. Good for you and everyone getting their trees up, I shan't bother with dec's this year but I like to see other peoples
kiwi there's nothing like fresh tuna, once tasted anything in a tin is only fit for the mogsCongrats on finishing the quilt and almost completing the herb garden, the rain must have been a Godsend for that
Introuble my DD also did that one year, I think she was about 9, and it had the same effect as it had on you. The hot choc and roast pork sound good, making me hungry
Kittikins hope you have a good sleep, and get well now. Congrats on the Amazon sales, long may it last
CCP well done on the freebie jumper, and your Mums pressie. Surveys have been good to me this year, been able to buy most of the pressies with them. Lol at the 'just one more mouthful' but you're right, home cooked bacon is very morish
Blimus like Ladyhawk I'd only been thinking of Jex today when looking at some hotels in Scotland. Lovely to hear she's still on board and still posting
marmite yes please, would love the recipe for the tea loaf. I think you may be right about calzone, it certainly was filling! Congrats on saving for the food processor,I think you did very well to have got in just one year
beachbaby what can I say? The certain someone is sounding more exciting each day
vouchersrme welcome . I do so agree about retirement, a wonderful institution!
Caterina what a nice surprise being asked to stay on, your idea of self employed is sensible so hope they agree to it. Have a super day in pompey, wonder if you'll run into CCP while you're there? She needs to get on with her Christmas shopping too
Ladyhawk how exciting, will wait with bated breath to see if there's news about your SiL. Get well now so you can go to the staff do
dundeedoll thanks, in fact it's the first alcohol I've bought since I stopped driking almost 6 years ago. Felt a bit strange but had no desire to share in the bottle. And champagne certainly wasn't my poison of choice! Your mentioning Worcester and B'ham bring back happy memories of when we lived in Droitwich Spa, all too brief as DH had to move for his job. Beautiful countryside there
1. Pulm rehab class this morning, last one til after New Years next week so we're having a bit of a party
2. Visited DD and the pets, soppy parrot purrs when he's stroked!
3. Paid a cheque into the bank, my DMs present to me, which is enough to buy my new lawnmower
4. Shopped in Mr A for dog biscuits. The bill came to £23, how do I do it every time?!
5. Took the car to the garage as the headlights weren't throwing out much light on the M-ways last night and was concerned about the alternator. Also every time I put the lights on full beam the lights on the dash went dim . The mechanic had a look, told me I'd pressed the dimmer button under the dash (didn't even know there was one, after all I've only had the car 9 years), then tested the lights. He used a machine, but when he turned the lights on the machine didn't register anything at all. Then he cleaned the headlight glass...it was like Blackpool illuminations. One of those times you really wish that big hole would appear so you coud jump into it. He was very nice though, said it was the amount of M-way driving I'd done, and didn't charge me as he said it was worth the entertainment value
Night night

Been busy for a few days so not managed to read the posts.
My five are
1. Finished christmas shopping and spent less than I thought I would.
2. Written majority of christmas cards.
3. Snow virtually gone and I can drive both ways out of my road. I love the snow but when all it does is make driving dangerous I am not as keen.
4.Compliments about tea - bobotie- made with reduced mince.
5. A meeting at work being interested and being given lovely lunch with wine which is unheard of normally nowadays.
5. Some lovely walks with my dog.
6. Watching DS2 play rugby at weekend without getting too cold.0 -
Well, good morning to everyone waking up, it's evening here! Got a good Scottish tea on the go: mince & tatties, smells lovely!
Well it has been a hot one today, 30o, this is when I start to struggle, I try to get as much houseworky stuff done as early as possible before my get up & go, just goes!
So, today, was full of good intentions, stripped my bed & had just remade it when out of the corner of my eye, I saw 'thing's crawling up my bedroom wall. I shrieked for my son to come & see what it was, bloomin' ants! Eek! however, I thought they were baby spiders, which would have been much, much worse!
1.Enjoyed another nice 'hike' to school this morning, I love seeing all the beautiful flowers and birds....I stand & look at the birds in the trees...not sure what people think of'strange woman staring at tree again!' Lorikeets are about the size of budgies but are bright colours of green ,blue & red. They are very noisy!
2. Ants not spiders! I am very scared of all things spidery & have had a few hysterical moments already.
3.Finishing my last library book! I am a great reader & was delighted to find library a few weeks ago, I am allowed to take 30 items out at a time! It's very hi tech and lots of new books ahead of me! I did not have 30 books out tho!
4.Getting my washing done , dried in no time ,ironed & put away......don't want piles of clothes left about for beasties to wander in to!
5.My dd1, finished school for holidays today, ds finished 2 weeks ago and ds2 on Friday.
She did a 24km cycle to city yesterday as an end of term activity and today played tennis & cricket for 4 hours.........she is looking forward to a lie in tomorrow! My children have also given up everything & everyone they have ever known to make this move & I am reminded daily of how well they are coping with it all. I am very proud of them.
Everyday is a new day at the moment, not always an easy day....but better when I have to look for pleasures!.........my moans & groans .......now that would be a different thread altogether!
I wish you all a good Tuesday,
Mhags x0 -
Morning
Thank you to everyone for your kind words and hugs. DD is struggling at the moment and some old nightmares have resurfaced which we expected to happen but she is talking to me and a friend so hopefully things will settle down again soon and the angry side effect of all that she has gone through won't appear as it is usally directed at me.
Pleasures for yesterday:
1. Taking a cup of tea with me to drink at the station yesterday morning.
2. Finally got through the worst of the project I have been working on just the snagging to finish now. A cheer went up in the office when the last one was finished.
3. Getting home in time to cook dinner for OH and DD (as I was going out), if left to there own devices they would have resorted to takeaway
4. Lovely evening out with the girls so good to catch up with everyone lots of laughing and gossip
5. Not an MSE evening but really lovely food especially the starter of duck and bacon salad with a sesame dressing.
Hugs to all who need them.
Frith - Sorry about your son, good luck with the counsellor if the school one can't help it may be worth contacting the NSPCC as they have some excellent counsellors that are fantactic with children no matter what the issue. Hope Mr.N's son is on the mend0 -
1. Had to pop to the post office and on the way back I spied what can only be described as a plethora of pine cones on the pavement! I couldn't help myself and grabbed a bag full. I was next to a main road at the time and I wonder what the people passing in the cars thought of me stopping every few seconds to pick something off the floor and pop it in my work bag :rotfl:I'm going to decorate them with glitter spray and display them in a bowl
2. Finished my Christmas shopping yay
3. Got a lovely Christmas card from my neighbour - might not seem like much but this is the first place we've lived in where we actually know our neighbours, nevermind getting a Christmas card!
4. Sucessfully added a lining to the skirt I made - it kept sticking to my legs before but now its perfect :T V pleased with self, and the skirt is my absolute favourite, I would sleep in it if I could!
5. Added cinnamon and raisins to a batch of Twinks, mmm festive
Hope everyone is having a lovely OS day0
