    Hi all

Was at work yesterday and had loads to do (not only at work, also out of it!) so did not post, but had a quick look at the posts.

    Belated BIRTHDAY WISHES Blimus!

Frith, so sorry that court went so bad and to read that you have had such a hard time (((HUGS))).

Sparrer, good news on your improving health!

Here are my pleasures for yesterday:

1 - Rolled into work at 10am and got on with things I needed to tidy up before leaving.

2 - Lunch with my colleague, who is back from a Caribbean holiday and made me full of envy (in the best possible way) with her tales of sunny beaches and delicious food.

3 - My boss arrived in the afternoon and told me that there will be plenty for me to do on Monday so at least I won't be bored on my last day!

4 - Had a little bit of extra work in the evening, helping a friend of mine to cover a job cooking for a professional woman who works full time and needs a bit of cooking done for her (I shall do odd sessions to cover when my friend cannot make it). Very nice, pleasant woman to work for, and a bit of spare cash in my pocket!

5 - Tea and biscuits (freebie from M&S vouchers) in bed courtesy of DH, while finishing reading an amazing thriller (Void Moon, by Michael Connolly - if anyone wants it pm me and I shall post it - in the spirit of starting an OS book swap!).

Today DH went to see his family in Yorkshire and will stay over the weekend so I am a bit sad, I will miss him but will also make the best of my free time and already had some pleasures today, and more to come later, hopefully:

1 - Breakfast at a local cafe with a friend

2 - Cup of tea with another friend who I went to see briefly to say hi.

3 - Said friend had a spare copy of this week's Time Out and she let me have it.

4 - Started re-reading The Thrift Book by India Knight and I find it so funny and well written, really good reading, even if I have a bit of a feeling of "yeh yeh, seen it, done it..." but still a good, lighthearted read. I read her previous book "The Shops" in the past and also found it very well written but would not put many of her suggestions from that in practice as they would bankrupt me - and she DID get bankrupted! Hence her Thrift book. Although in that book I found the contact for a place that would send smoked kippers all over the world and so I sent a pack to my sister in Spain and she was delighted!

5 - If I can shift my lazy bones I am planning to go to Somerset House to see the Christmas market (and hopefully sample as many freebies as I can get) and if I get an attack of culture-neediness (highly unlikely, but one never knows...) I might even fork out £6 to see the Cezanne exhibition at the Courtauld Gallery (but it would be so much better if I could get someone to share it 50 50 on the 2 for 1 that you get if you travel there by BR train!).

Will update with any further pleasures later, meanwhile I hope you all have a great day. xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Evening all.

Blimus - happy birthday for yesterday! I hope your day was as nice as it sounds. :)

    My pleasures for today:

    1) Put my new :xmastree: up - it looks good, although it could do with some more lights. (It's taller than my old one so I knew I'd need extra lights, but rather underestimated how many more I'd need. It'll do for this year, though, and I'll try to get some more cheap after Christmas. ;))

    2) Washed the windows, inside and out. I can't claim I did a spectacular job - they're rather streaky in places - but they're much better than they were.

    3) Ordered my sister's Christmas present, using a voucher from doing surveys so it didn't cost me anything. :money:

    4) Managed to keep the heating off all day, for the first day in ages.

    5) I'm going to treat myself to a takeaway a bit later. I was planning on having chish and fips, but I think I might go for Chinese after reading Blimus' post.

Have a nice evening, everyone. :)
Back after a very long break!
  • Evening all :)

    My five for today are:

1: Got a slate frame for my cross stitch today, so can continue with that without ruining it :j

2: Managed to buy two books I've wanted for ages at 2 for £5, just have to decide which one to read first!

3: It looks like I've managed to worm the dog herbally, so no outlay for expensive tablets

4: Am spenfing the evening watching Strictly and Come Clog Dancing whilst crocheting

5: Veggie chilli from the freezer for dinner with baked potato nomnomnom

Blimus, Belated Happy Birthday! Your day sounded lovely :bdaycake:

More (((((HUGS))))) for Frith This too will pass.........

Sparrer So pleased to hear you're on your way up. Ps :rotfl:at 'the brochure' :D;)

Caterina Nice to earn a bit of 'pin money' Although you said you were a bit :( about Mr C being in Yorkshire for weekend I was pleased to read that.........only because of your posts about Mr C a couple of weeks ago which made me :(..........and you saying you're sad and missing him is good.
Ps It would be soooo nice if we could have breakfast together if time permits with your coach departure

v8monkeyboy I really must start crocheting again............was totally useless but loved it :rotfl:

CCP Well done on tree and windows. I always have a HUGE statement tree with lots of (white) lights and heirloom handblown glass baubles from Germany, but am not bothering this year...............seems such a fuss as i'm on my own and I don't think the cat's that bothered :D Do love seeing it tho'.

Ladyhawk That dress sounds gorgeous! Lucky you having it made and I'm sure you will look absolutely breathtaking and have lots more positive comments!

I had some devastating news this morning............my friend's 20 yr old son (my DS1's best friend) was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in March. He had chemo and was doing really well, not that ill with it and still working. He finished chemo at the end of Oct, had a scan on 12th Nov, had to have a more specialised one on Monday and was rung by hospital yesterday to say it's active in his breastbone. He needs aggresive chemo and a stem cell transplant involving at least a months stay in hospital. Poor boy..........and my poor poor friend...........I can't begin to imagine..................

    1. Went to have my hair done this morning and it looks FFFABBBUUUUULOUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSS :j:j:j
I was getting a bit down about it as I have been losing so much of it due to my illness and the medication I was on. My hairdresser was amazing and so understanding. I feel soooo much better!

    2. Stopped at the wonderful butchers in the next village from me on way home and bought 3lbs brisket (which he diced for me) which I will put in slow cooker Monday morning and will give me lovely comforting dinners for a few nights and save me cooking after work - although I'll still have to do something for 'Kevin the grunting teenager' - and treated myself to a lovely piece of rib-eye steak. Had that with salad whilst watching Strictly.

    3. A friend phoned me totally out of the blue last night and we chatted for over 2 hours

    4. Woodburner lit...............candles lit...........all cosy on sofa with the cat.

    5. 18 weeks 6 days nicotine free :j
    Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

    Belated Birthday greetings to Blimus!

I'm determined to find 5 for today even though it's been a bit crap:

    1. Wrote some Christmas cards.

    2. Managed NSD number 9.

    3. Ate comfort food...mash, pasta and mugs of tea.

    4. Stayed home, relatively warm considering there was no heating on. Snow is all gone for now. Yay for that.

    5. Painkillers. Thanks be to God for painkillers.

Hope you are all having a good weekend, hugs to all who want or need them!

    Evening all -

Just a flying visit as I am so tired toight.

Glad you are back to fighting fit Sparrer. I had to laugh at what yor postie brought you - I miss out on all the good stuff! :)

    1) Went to see James last night (the band... Oh sit down, Oh sit down... sit down next to me-eee) last night at Brixton academy with my friend G

    2) Went for a 10 mile walk today with one of my Meet Up groups... am aching from it already. When we sat down at the pub for a mid walk drink and sandwich I joined a table with the leader of the group and another couple and we all got to chatting. I was starting to think the man was a little attractive and I had to laugh when he said to me "I recognise you". I knew he looked familar but thought it was because he had been at a previous meet up. As it turns out we had been on a blind date about 18 months ago!!

    3) Lovely sponge pudding at the pub after the walk with custard... yum

    4) My lovely kitty being happy to see me when I got home

    Right - I don't have the energy to think of a 5th.

    Night all

    Sleep tight

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • dundeedoll so very sorry to hear of your friends son. Bless him.
Still lovely to be reading this thread. Haven't anything to post yet but maybe tomorrow.

  • Hi
Back again after a year away.
Have undergone huge lifestyle changes in the past twelve months.
Hope to keep posting regularly now!
My five pleasures for today are:
    1. Planting herbs in my newly created herb garden. As I was planting each one, I was reflecting on its use, and just enjoying that each one will add a little to my enjoyment of life.
    2. Decorating an outdoor Christmas tree.
    3. Planning a real family Christmas, About 20 family are arriving and will stay unrtil the New Year.
    4. Looking forward to meeting up with some girlfriends later today.
    5. Picking armloads of roses from the garden. We are in the midst of a drought, but the roses seem to love the hot, dry weather

    blessings be

    Kiwiblue, welcome back!
Dundeedoll, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's son.
(((((Hugs))))) to all still under the weather or struggling.

At various points today I've thought 'oh that will be good to put in my post tonight' and can I remember what they were? No...

So, my attempt at remembering five for Saturday:

    1. Knitted up a tension square in my new ball of wool (one of those mixed multiple colour ones) and it looks beautiful: all stripes and speckles and 'fake' fairisle. I've decided to knit up a style of sock pattern I haven't tried before with it.

    2. Bought a Telegraph in Waitrose. This is unusual because I only shop in Waitrose if there's no other choice, and I never get the Telegraph, but today the advertising won. There was a free 3m roll of Xmas wrapping paper with it instore and the paper had a £5 Body Shop voucher too which seemed like a useful deal for the paper's price of £1.80. I need to get myself some more hand cream to add to my winter supplies.

    3. Had a chat with my mum asking her not to throw or give away any of her old sewing or knitting materials without letting me have first pickings. She's decluttering and it was a useful conversation for us both to have because she'd rather things stayed within the family and I'd much rather use things that have a remembered history (and especially not have to buy new).

    4. Have got a bit further with clearing a space for the sewing machine.

    5. We've all done useful bits and pieces of cleaning round the house today which was much needed and I got my washing done as well.

I'm sure there was more but I still can't remember. :)

    Sweet dreams everyone,

    B x

Broomstick congrats on your restraint in the wool shop, and only one ball to do a pair of sox? That's really something, my Nana used to buy loads of balls of grey wool, my how those sox itched! Well done on your Waitrose/Telegraph bargains :)
beachbaby sorry about your poor nights' sleep. I buy decaf tea and coffee (caffeine gives me the shakes) which taste the same as ordinary stuff, or you could try a 'bedtime' drink like Horlicks, hot choc or similar. Hope you have some better night ahead
Caterina sounds like another busy weekend in your life. I'll bet you only ever sit down to eat ;)
CCP well done on getting the new tree up and the freebie present for your sis.
v8monkeyboy that's the trouble with having two books, especially when they both look as good as each other ;). Seems Strictly was the evening's choice of viewing. Can't stand the other channel with all those 'celebrities' and their silly karaoke-like game!
dundeedoll my heart goes out to you and your friends, will include them in my prayers. Pleased you're happy with your hair, it does make a difference to how we feel for some reason :D
katholicos hope tomorrow is less crap for you, but I think it's amazing, we're in December and you've already had 9 nsd's!
Ladyhawk good for you doing ten miles, just thinking of that distance exhausts me! And what a coincidence your having been on a blind date with the possibly attractive leader of the group. Re James, love that song :)
kiwi welcome back, so good to see you :hello:. Looking forward to hearing of all the changes you've made and how you both are
beachbaby, dundeedoll, ladyhawk re the brochure, they really should sew up the, umm...undergarments before they try to sell them  And they had the most, well, what I can only describe as 'interesting' salt and pepper mills I've ever seen. Battery operated too, I suppose it's modern art... :o:rotfl:

    1. Went out to have coffee with a friend which went on a bit longer than we'd planned, so we ended up having lunch in an Indian restaurant
    2. Called into the local charity shop and didn't buy anything
    3. Called in to Mr M and bought a bottle of Moet for a double gift, for a friend who's retired and moved house all in the same week!
    3. Dropped the gift off, another friend and her son, who I hadn't seen for almost a year were there helping with the move. They did invite me to stay but by now it was 4.30pm and apart from me being exhausted the poor dog must have been dancing with crossed legs :(, so declined the invitation.
    4. Put the finishing touches to DM's pressies as I'm going on the 3 M-ways trek tomorrow to visit her. Missed my regular visit through not being too well so it'll be lovely to see her and spend the day together.
    5. Enjoyed an ice cream cone for supper :o while watching Strictly, and Casualty afterwards, but dozed off during the middle bit (lottery results) so better check to see if I've lost again. At least I'm consistent!

    Night night, sleep tight
