Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days - I've been feeling a bit off colour (just winter-itis, I think :() and haven't felt up to doing anything except collapsing on the sofa when I get home from work. There's been a few pleasures, though:

    1) Getting the work Christmas tree up. We don't have lights on it after all - having gained permission from the boss, we got defeated by the Health & Safety Fairy  - but it looks pretty all the same.
    2) Met up with my dad and sorted out what he wants for Christmas. (A bottle of port, which I know nothing about - looks like I'll have to learn quickly!)
    3) Got my Mr T voucher jumpers - they're beautifully warm and snuggly, and I particularly liked the delivery note stating that one cost 60p and the other 39p. :money:
    4) Snooker on television. I love curling up in cold weather with a fleece blanket, a cat, and some snooker to watch.
    5) Seeing sparrer's post - I'm glad you're around, if not exactly OK.

    And for today:

    1) My cat chasing his ball round the flat at 4 o'clock this morning. Annoying, but rather sweet all the same!
    2) Had a chat on the phone with my sister and knowing she's fine and has escaped from work after being snowed in there since Sunday.
    3) Treated myself to a ciabatta roll from the sandwich shop round the corner from the office - an induldence, but a tasty one.
    4) Jambalaya for dinner.
    5) And more snooker to watch. :)

Broomstick - thanks for the link - great stuff. :D

Frith - I hope today's court session went OK.

Tealady - I know exactly what you mean about the view of Portsmouth Harbour - I had to visit someone on the 9th floor of a building in the city centre today, and the view was .

sparrer - get well now, if not sooner.

Welcome to the new posters - may you have many pleasures to write about.
Back after a very long break!

    Hi Ladies,

Dundeedoll - lol! my skirts are short... but they're not that short! :o

I'm really tired today after my 4.30am start. I was on HMS Belfast at 7am and it was BRACING :snow_grin

    1) The announcement went press release went really well and it looks like our pictures will be some of the main papers... fingers crossed! So if you see a photo of a christmas tree ice sculpture in front of Tower Bridge in the papers tomorrow or Friday it will be because of me... and I will be :j:j (which was what I was doing this morning to try and get feeling back into my fingers and toes!)

    2) Nice congratulatory emails on the completion of the project

    3) Left work on time

    4) Lots of hot sweet tea all day... and a fruit scone for breakfast (which will be claimed on my expenses)

    5) Easy supper of left over fish pie - yum!

    night night...

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
    Man plans and God laughs...
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening

    Pleasures for today:

    1. Finding some humour in a not very good situation at work today.
    2. Singing Carols round the christmas tree in our little town tonight. Now it feels like christmas.
    3. Catching up with some friends at the carol singing
    4. Walk around the christmas market where I bought some HM jam and marmalade with the funds going to charity. Also bought a Victoria sponge cake, lazy I know but my excuse is its all for a good cause.
    5. Fish and chips on the walk home

Hugs to all who need them
  • juliapenguin - huge hugs to you. I can only imagine how desperate you feel at this time of year without your mum.:(
dundeedoll - Your 180 skid made me shudder! Thank goodness you were okay ((()))
kittikins - hope your DD is feeling better. Hugs for both of you. :grouphug:
Hi Broomstick. :hello: Huge hugs to you too. Hope you are feeling better today? What is your book idea about?
    Welcome Minette! :hello:
Sparrer - sending you huge hugs and love. :kisses3:Feel better now!
Frith - Really hope that court went okay today.
Caterina - wow! Your spa visit sounds amazing

    Here are mine for today:
    1) Lessons went well today.
    2) Watching the boys playing Sumo. At one point they even stripped down to their pants for authenticity :rotfl:
    3) Finished DS2's friend's crocheted pink-haired doll for xmas. And found an Amigurumi Sumo pattern on Ravelry. Have started on the first one this evening.
    4) A huge haul of whoopsied deli meat. Most has gone straight into the freezer.
    5) Falafel for tea. Accompanied by the greatly whoopsied salad items that I got on Monday. This week has been whoopsie week :D

Looking forward to my Mum's visit tomorrow. She's staying till my birthday (40th ) on Friday and we're all going out for a Chinese for dinner. Excited about that :j

  • Good evening.

Very overcast here and on top of that a day full of gloomy thoughts.
Before discovering this forum and the '5 OS Pleasures' I used to set myself three 'little' goals to get through difficult times.Sometimes I felt content just writing down for the day:
    1 Had a shower
    2 Got dressed
    3 Made the bed

It's been like that today, and,in view of that,I've actually managed a lot:

1 Did eventually have a shower, get dressed and make the bed.
2 Made a Christmas pudding in the SC.
    3 Went for a walk.
4 A rapturous welcome from the wee cat when I got home-I'd only been out 90 minutes.
5 Have decided to make some parkin for some friends (Christmas offering) and maybe also stollen.

Thanks Broomstick for the youtube clip.I did enjoy it.

    Minette23 Hi and welcome!

Frith hope your day went well.

Ladyhawk Glad your day went well.I'll be looking out for pictures of an ice tree sculpture online.

Caterina what a pleasant day of pampering you've had!Sounds lovely.

Blimus birthday wishes for Friday,I see it's a 'biggie'!

It's tipping it down outside.I'd just heard a big bang, thought it was an explosion, but thankfully it's the thunder and lightning!

    Good night x

Thanks for the welcome backs and the hugs :) This is a kind place to be. Blimus, the book is about making stuff with stuff - recycling things for families, if that makes sense! Frith, sorry to have got the day wrong. Hope it went well today.

It's been a right mix of a day today. Huge rows with my sons - we are all off kilter at the moment and things are going wrong left, right and centre. It's all so uncharacterisically 'off' that I'm sure there's deep down changes we need to make. We just need to find out what! We'll get there. Anyway, today's fiasco ended up with some unexpected pleasures, namely:

    1. An unexpected drive to Milton Keynes to deliver something by a crucial 5pm deadline which I had completely overlooked and which put paid to the plans for the day but at least it meant we had a bit of time to talk in the car and start to repair the things said in the earlier rows.

    2. An extremely non-MSE but very welcome chocolate doughnut and latte from the garage when I stopped to fill up with petrol :o, but at least I managed to remember getting double Nectar points on fuel (I'm always forgetting to cash in those vouchers).

    3. An unplanned trip to IKEA while we were in MK. We managed to pick up some useful bits and pieces like candles which I really needed to stock up on plus some other little sensible bargains. It was nice to wander in the warm.

    4. Cheap supper at IKEA (or in the case of DS1 - two suppers - I think he must be growing again!) so at least I didn't have to cook tonight which I was very grateful for.

    5. Sons getting home and tackling our tip of a kitchen as part of making amends for earlier which was lovely and much appreciated.

Just looked on the Met Office site and it says we should be minus 3 tonight but it felt much colder when I put some recycling out so I checked with our kitchen thermometer and it's minus 7. Off to make a hottie....

    Sweet dreams everyone,
    B x

Aaargh! Rubbishy day but will find 5.

    1) Most of housework done.

    2) Went to Worcester (primarily to go to court) and did the 2nd hand shops. A note to anyone near Worcs - the Shelter shop is amazing! I don't know where they got them from but they have a huge stock of brand new M and S clothes, still with tags. So I got smaller son some jeans, a hoodie and a long sleeved T shirt with a stag picture on it. They would have cost £30 new but were £5 each and 3 for the price of 2 so just £10!

    3) Went to my friend's house after court (I went to Sixth Form college in Worcs so still know quite a few people there). Had lots of cups of tea and some cake.

    4) Got home where my sister had got the fire going again for me and had the kettle on and had bought me some flowers to commiserate for having to go to court.

    5) Went to the theatre with sister, my mum and sons to see Danny, Champion of the World. It was really good! Just a local, amateur company but full of charm and good special effects.

    6) MrN came round and has just gone. Had a good chat about a lot of things and feel a lot better for it. :-)

Court was vile. Ex Mr Frith now has contact overnight every other weekend and half holidays. I tried, as I have been trying these last 6 years. He hasn't had overnight contact or much contact for 2 years which at least gave us a breathing space from all his madness.
  • Good morning all. Just another quick post. Feeling as sick as a dog and have been up most of the night due to drinking to many baileys coffees yesterday. Only one pleasure for yesterday, but it's a good one,
    1. Feeling alive again for the first time in months. The butterfly feeling, having a lovely drink hazed afternoon in front of a log fire, fantastic flirting conversation and being walked home. :D X

Hi all, haven't felt like posting for a couple of days, DD has been really ill with the bug and I wasn't very good yesterday :( Anyway, on to the good stuff :)

    1. DD has turned the corner we believe, she's at my parents and started eating last night, so far without 'repurcussions'!
    2. She sounded a bit better when we chatted this morning :):)
    3. The lovely doctor who visited her yesterday and gave great advice - thank goodness for the NHS :)
    4. My wonderful parents for putting their lives on hold for us, risking their health so that I could get into the office.
    5.
As I've been feeling rubbish, I've not been eating too much, lol
    6. A lovely night out in the village with a couple of great friends last night and the prospect of more socialising tonight!

    1. Enjoyed walking the boys to school instead of driving as had morning off work
    2. Had some fab free entertainment in the form of my 5 year olds first nativity play. Got front row seat too but did queue outside for nearly an hour to be one of the first in
    3. Forgot to take tissues with me but the school had thought of everything and had boxes of kleenex around the hall.
    4. Getting to work and being offered a steaming bowl of heinz tomato soup and croutons as the kitchen had made too much. One of my favourite lunches.
    5. Spending the afternoon being entertained again by helping out with the dress rehearsal for my year 3 class nativity. Shows are next week and they were all superb.
