5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Evening all.
Ladyhawk - my usual situation to that email situation is to write a response then save it and go and do something else for half an hour or so. By the time I've finished I've usually thought better of my response (although not always, I must admit). I hope it doesn't cause you too many problems.
marmiterulesok wrote: »Pleased that a few of you liked the phrase crystal drops. So much nicer to say 'Oh is that a crystal drop that I see, sweet kitty' than 'Oh look the cat's dribbling again.'!
:rotfl:
Caterina - good for you for making that decision. Sometimes the deciding's the most difficult part, I find - I hope you feel happier now you have decided.
frugalpam - congrats on your 21 month milestone - that's brilliant going. :T
My pleasures for today:
1) Porridge with banana and maple syrup porridge for breakfast, the only meal at which I have any kind of a sweet tooth (and that combination is very sweet indeed!).
2) I'm not sure it's very OS, but I ordered an Indian cookbook from the work book club. It's only £4, and will be much cheaper than getting a takeaway, so I suppose it can be considered money saving. Sort of.
3) The trees in the office car park are getting more colourful by the day.
4) Did my shopping list for tomorrow's grocery shop and there's only 7 items on there - and two of those are only necessary because there's a charity cake sale at work next week and I need to bake something to sell.
5) It's Friday tomorrow, and I get paid. :j
Have a nice evening (well night by now, really). 'Get well now' to everyone who's feeling off colour (thanks for that story, marmite - I think the kid's right!).Back after a very long break!0 -
Frugalpalm - how? I would so like to give up, but just can't find the impetus all ideas gratefully received xSometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
Evening  - another decent day here today and quite mild until around teatime. Gets really cold once the sun starts to go down behind the houses and you can no longer feel its rays.
villagelife - Hope you enjoy the Carrot&Butterbean Soup as much as we do  and wtg on your ds getting on with his h/work :T.
house elf - How on earth can you think that the school holidays have been 'unproductive' - just look at all you and the kids have done and the memories you've created :j.
julie - wow what great neighbours - my daughter would just LOVE to live next-door to girls like them :rotfl:.
Caterina - wd on reaching your decision about working - I'm sure you'll be able to find more productive ways of using your time for the home/family :T.
Patchwork - wd on finding a doctor who'll arrange another ultrasound for you - and best of luck with it.
Rebekah - wtg on your 'Spicy' Parsnip Soup :rotfl: - sounds delicious.
marmite - wd on yourMon and Tues - keep up the good work :T.
newlywed - good news on the £10 voucher :j!
Ladyhawk - felt quite embarassed after making that comment - but it was the first thing that occurred to me when I read it. Keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't offend Frith. wtg on the bag of quinces :T. Best of luck with the expenses claim.
Tealady - mmmmm chukky egg and soldiers .
CCP - I'm sure we can class the Indian Cookery Book as 'OS' - has to be when it means cooking the meal instead of getting takeaway :j.
jaxx - Hope you manage to find your motivation - my DD is struggling with it as well ((((HUGS)))) to you.
Mine for today:
1. No bread left this morning, so had a buttered crumpet and porridge for breakfast.
2. Put a load in theand got it mostly dry on the
and then on rads to finish off.
3. Twosamples and a 80p voucher in the post - courtesy of Mr Kenco :j.
4. Took some frozen Minced Turkey Chilli, lamb's kidneys and a container of leftover mash/carrots out of the freezer this morning. OH had the chilli with pasta and I had kidney's with onions, mash and carrots. Another freebie evening meal and more space in the freezer :j.
5. Managed to do a few more rows of the knitted shawl for my great-nephew- should have it finished by the weekend.
That's me finished for this evening - going to have an early night - well early by my standards :rotfl:. Hope all the 'snifflers' are now recovering - maybe we should all go and have a session in Caterina's 'salt cave'. Probably do us all a world of good.
to all - nitey nite - love Ollie xxx

Early morning all,
1. Watching the dog admire the fresh air from the back seat of the car - he sticks his head out and mocks other dogs for walking, I mean so last year!
2. Feeling some comradeship (cannot think of a better word) at work today.
3. OOh that is all.
Nightie!Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!" Less things. Less stuff. More life.Fab thread: Long daily walks

villagelife congrats on not having a homework tussle, makes life so much easier
house elf lol at only having to share the Toblerone with your DH. Did you have to sneak it in? The cinema in my nearest town has even been known to check bags to make sure peeps are only buying from the foyer shop. Bloomin' cheek
julie that's so good of them, they sound like such nice people. How you both found lots of suitable things in the bag
Caterina congrats on your decision to be a SaHW, but make sure you stick with it this time. What's a mob deal? Sounds like a good bargain finder
Patchwork hope you enjoyed the panto. Good for you getting the necklace direct, what a relief
Rebekah lucky you having a quince tree! My garden's tiny and I've managed to get patio pears, plums and apples but quince doesn't come in mini size
marmite count me in as another who loves the crystal drops expression. Bless the little boy, he was absolutely right!
newlywed congrats on your strength and not buying anything, in true OS style. Good news about the shopping, I've never done it on line but sounds quite profitable
Ladyhawk well done on the nsd's. Don't go mad and spend the lot when you get your expenses! Although I'm a fine one to talk, I used to save mine for a couple of months then blew them on something 'worthwhile'
Tealady the boiled agg and soldiers brought back a lot of memories - think I'll have to shop for eggs tomorrow. Good for you getting £20 off the shoes, that's a really worthwhile discount
CCP I don't look forward to Autumn as it always seems such a long time until fine weather again, but have to say the colours this year seem to have been brighter than ever. Happy pay day
jaxx I bought Allen Carr's book/CD and had stopped before I got to the end of it. It may not work for everyone of course, but I passed it on via freecycle and the lady who took it stopped as well...if you know anyone who has a copy it might be worth a read, but really you just have to want to stop more than anything. Good luck
ollie the kidneys, mash etc sounds so yummy. Haven't had kidneys for ages so might just add them to my shopping list along with the eggs. Hope you're on the mend and the inhaler is helping
1. nsd
2. Sunshine and wind for drying, and no rain again.
3. Postie brought me some samples of perfumed candles I send for, they smell mmmmmmm in the packets. I'll save them for little extras to pop into Christmas cards for the ladies
4. A grilled bacon and tomato sandwich for breakfast, the tomato was just getting wrinkly and the bread was going stale so they didn't get wasted.
5. Still no heating, and a good read by candle light which made everything feel cosy
night night, sweet dreams
S x
eta mineallmine I love that expression and the chap that says it, lol. Good that you felt comfortable at work, long may it last

My five for yesterday are
1. A lovely walk with the dog in the morning ok it was still in the dark but I saw the barn owl for the first time in ages.
2. Not having to decide what to eat for tea.
3. Collecting more chestnuts which we will eat today.
4. Good Housekeeping through the post so enjoyed reading it.
5. DS1 texted to say he will probably come home for the weekend.0 -
Hi all
Thank you for your support of my work decision, it makes me feel so much more light-hearted to think that I shall only have to endure another 12 to 15 days and then I shall be free.
Ladyhawk, no it is not about the level of job satiscaftion, as funnily enough I quite like what I do. There are other problems, such as a very young and management-clueless line manager and a fairly disorganised "organisation", where it is really difficult to establish patterns of work. As it is a "think-tank" it seems like everything goes. I have long conversations about this with the personnel manager, who also comes from a background of public service work, and we are both appalled at the lack of policies and procedures. For example I have had only ONE proper one-to-one with my line manager, I asked her for a work plan, asked her for more specific detailed information and instructions, we agreed all this and all that, and did anything come of it? Nope....
Basically if I was a few years younger and had a real pressing need to work I might give it another chance, but I just feel too unhappy and the worst part of it is that because everything is so vague I cannot even say exactly what makes me so unhappy, other than a vague sense of unease, never knowing what my role is, never knowing when I am able to work on my own initiative and when to ask for instructions. Do you see what I mean? It is all so unclear that I don't even know how to explain it myself. The very few colleagues I have shared this feeling with have confirmed my feelings about the vagueness and lack of clear policies and strategies.
However, here I go, and another job bites the dust. I like to think that this will be my last office based job!
Sparrer, re. mob deals, they are group purchases for things like beauty treatments, hotel stays, reduced price meals etc...here are some interesting links for you:
http://www.groupon.co.uk/ http://www.wahanda.com/ http://www.keynoir.com/london
Hope they are useful. I have had some lovely treatments for very little money and their restaurant deals are really good.
Now that I shall not work anymore I shall have to forget even these deals but it is a small price to pay, if I am not stressed by work I shall not need too many de-stressing massages!
Have a good day everybody, I am off to the Yoga Show with my friend, courtesy of freebie tickets from MSE and will be back later for my pleasures. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Caterina - there must be little that is more demoralising than not having a proper sense of direction and control in the job you are doing. Hopefully your organisation will have learnt a lesson from the feedback you have given them but sadly these things often fall on deaf ears, especially if the management team is a younger one and think they know it all!
Mine over the last couple of days:
1. Second large batch of soup this week currently on the simmer which has been made from various home grown vegetables. It gives me a real kick to think that we're eating meals which have cost only pennies. And I'm using up some of my Parmesan cheese rind too!
2. OH currently downstairs making wholemeal bread and BaraBryth tea bread. This house feels rather like the Victorian Kitchen.
3. King size duvet cover washed and blowing dry outside in the wind.
4. Nice get together of one of our social groups last night.
5. Window cleaner has just been. What little sunshine we get will now filter through indoors. I do love looking through nice sparkling clean windows!0 -
Morning
Thankgoodness for a sit down! I feel like I have done a days work already!! (Been up since 4.30am to take DD to swimming:eek:).
Ollie You are right........Memories are more important than tidy houses. I would just like to have time for a bit more tidying! :rotfl:(or a cleaner!)
Sparrer Cinema has not searched bags for a while, thankgoodness!
5 for yesterday
1. Carved 2 pumpkins with DS2 and dried the seeds in the oven for hamster treats. The inside of the pumpkins will be turned into something for our hallowen 'party' on Sunday.
2. Tron Legacy preview at IMAX. Very exciting. Will definitely go to see it in December. (Very amusing listening to the conversations of other people in the audience. Geek central! Suppose that means we must be geeks too!!)
3. Chilli for tea which I had made the previous day, so was ready in a flash!
4. Lots of washing and drying. At least the washing mountain is coming down.
5. Making cheese toasites for lunch with some Ementaal cheese. DS2 thought it was very funny that Cartoon cheese really exists.:rotfl:
That seemed really difficult, even though it was a nice day......
Back later with 5 for today.
PS
Villagelife Lucky you having Good housekeeping. Seems a long time since I had the mummy's bible delivered. I miss it lots. Reminds me of being SaHW. Also reminds me to say. Well Done to Caterina. Good decision.I am very envious!

Primrose, they KNOW! They had a lot of feedback from other staff! But I am not going to give any feedback, just say I need to dedicate more time to myself and my home interests, can't be bothered with giving more feedback that falls on deaf ears!
House Elf, I understand your sentiment entirely, it was the same for me when I kept hearing about people leaving their jobs to "find themselves" but I could not do it for financial constraints. I feel truly privileged and am immensely grateful that I am in the position where I have a choice. I am not doing this lightly and have considered that the job that I leave will hopefully go to someone who needs it more than I do!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
