5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Good evening.
Well,I've had a funny weekend,it seems to have gone by so fast, and I don't seem to have done much.Having late nights doesn't help.
For today and yesterday:
1 I baked a nice loaf, made a pot of soup and made chutney.
2 I've been running today (3 miles) and yesterday (2.5 miles).
3 I washed 2 woolen jumpers by hand, wringing them out in a towel and drying them flat. For some reason I always hate doing this,it seems so fiddly....
4 Going to try making soft cheese tonight, using my vegetarian rennet.
5 I watched a gripping film that I'd recorded off the telly:'Downfall',about Hitler's last days.I find it really hard to concentrate through a whole film, but this held my attention.
CCP Last winter there was a nuthatch that would occasionally feed at my window -I feed the birds every year-I wonder if it was the same one.If you see one I don't know if that means there's a pair.I'll keep a look-out.
Frith I hope that you're feeling better.
Frugalpam Glad to read that your cat is on the mend.
Ladyhawk sounds like you've had a nice weekend.
Wishing you all a good week.0 -
The day started off well but has ended on a bit of a low point. My dog, who I nearly lost a few weeks ago, is showing similar symptoms as before. It'll be a long night..
my 5
1. lovely sunny morning
2. Usual Sunday lunchtime meeting with friends, one of whom has invited me to lunch next Friday.
3. Decided the time has come to make a real effort to lose weight so called into Mr M for 'skinny' food on the way home and found half fat cheese (cheese is my downfall) ys to 30p so bought all four packs. As above, there was also a pack of fresh cream scones ys to 19p. What's a woman to do? I'll take them to my DD in the morning, all being well
4. The bromeliad which I rescued from a skip in a garden centre some 12 years ago is in flower again, it has a stem of stunning blooms on it every year. When I asked if I could buy it and they gave it to me, saying those plants only bloom once. It's at least four times bigger than the original, been potted on twice, has multiplied into three separate plants...I'd love to take it back to let the garden centre see what they threw out.
5. Seeing a hedgehog snuffle its way across the square and disappear into the hedgerow as I was closing the curtains this evening.
Hope the poorlies get well soon and everybody has a good week. Take care n sleep well

What a weekend!
After the party for 6 small boys yesterday, sons had one friend to stay overnight. Thankfully, they were all really good. I woke up at 4.30a.m and seriously thought I would have to call an ambulance. The pain in my ear/head/down my neck was so bad I was doing labour breathing exercises!
Anyway, here are my 5...
1) Phoning the dad of the sleepover boy and he not only dropping everything to pick his son up at 9.30 but also taking MY sons away with him and keeping them til 5pm!
2) Going to hospital and being seen promptly. (No doctors open locally so you have to go there). I have a middle and inner ear infection and a hole through my ear drum and got told off for noticing the pain on Tuesday then leaving it.... Got to go back to my own doctor on Friday so they can assess the damage better.
3) The tablets starting to work (a bit).
4) MrN making tea for us.
5) My sister coming round to say she will put an offer in on her first ever house - tomorrow!
The whole weekend culminated in smaller son (who is never ill) being sick without warning. Here's hoping for a healthy and fun next week....
Hope everyone else is OK!0 -
Good morning all. Sparrer I hope your dog's OK.
Well I have had a hideous night and morning so far. Had a really positive day yesterday only for my daughter to twist the knife last night saying she wanted to go and live with her dad (this was following an argument). Talk about ripping your heart out. I sometimes think it isn't possible to feel any worse. Even managed to wake up crying.
Anyway, before all this kicked off, my blessings for yesterday,
1. Being on my own all day but feeling fine about it.
2. Having a good sort through the family photos - he wants half of them.
3. Lovely cheese salad for lunch.
4. New picture for my bedroom.
5. Going for a swim and jacuzzi in the evening with my girls.
Hoping for a better day today. I just think it isn't possible to hurt any more than I do already.
Best wishes to all. X0 -
beachbaby thank you for your thoughts, wish I'd known you were having a bad night as I sat up all night with the muttley, we could have got together for a cyber-cuppa
. I'm so sorry your DD's remark upset you, I do understand as I've been in a similar situation as have some others here also. I don't know how old she is but I'm sure they don't mean what they say, they just don't think, and if they knew how much it hurt they'd not say the things they do. It's difficult I know but if you can try to carry on as if nothing happened I'd not be surprised if she comes to you to apologise in the next few days. Hope you have a better day and night to come. S

Hi All,
Just popped in to say bye to SavingforOz, but I'm probably a bit late. Hope you have a lovely time and keep listing those 5 pleasures every day! Even if its only a mental list!
Sooooo busy at the moment, I haven't had time to follow my own advice! Researching Uni's for DD and 6th forms for DS1 and secondary schools for DS2. (Need to know in case they go ahead with statementing DS2 and we can name his secondary school on his statement).
Quick 5 while I'm here....
1. Day off today as feeling poorly with a cough. Sounds pathetic, but I have got a temperature tooIts a pleasure not to have to face the world.
2. Snuggled up with DH and DS2 to watch the Sound of Music last night as I was feeling poorly.
3. DD passed her latest Synchro exam on saturday which means she can do a solo at Nationals! Wow! V proud mummy.
4. Eating the burnt bits off a pineapple upside down cake. made it last night and forgot it was in the oven as I'm too busy feeling sorry for myself.
5. Sunshine.
I have been experimenting with a wood fire in the evenings. No probs with the smoke going up the chimney, but it doesn't seem to burn v well or give off much heat. Most of the heat seems to be generated by the gas poker :rotfl:Can anyone offer advice if you have a wood fire? Do I need lots of coal as well?
Have a lovely day. HE x0 -
Hi all
savingforoz a big hug and many wishes for a lovely lovely journey, I know how long you have been waiting for this moment and now you are doing it, well done, enjoy yourself!
beachbaby I am so sorry about your DD's insensitive remark - I don't know the situation but I would imagine that she was saying that withour realising how much she could hurt you. I hope that you can share a hug with her and forget about her hurtful words.
Here are a few pleasures during and after my yoga weekend:
1 - Yoga weekend was ok, not exciting or wild but pleasant, I spent a lot of the time keeping myself to myself and just resting (around the yoga classes).
2 - The true beauty of it all was having all my meals cooked for me, lovely vegetarian locally grown food (they have their own veg garden and chickens). Mostly also dairy free because of so many vegans (YIPPEE so I had the dairy free alternatives but local chicken fried eggs for breakfast - the best of both worlds!).
3 - Coming back home, as always, was a terrific pleasure in itself, of course!
4 - Meeting and hugging DH, DD and DS, and even the cats after nearly three days without them.
5 - As always, sleeping in my own bed - bliss!
6 - Last night receiving a text from my boss asking me not to go to work this morning because of the Underground strike (I shall have to make up the time but it was good to have today to myself and do a few things I needed to do).
7 - Shopping and a cup of tea afterwards with my friend.
8 - Leftover veg and macaroni soup for lunch.
9 - Reading how many of you also do not wash their kitchen floor regularly - but oh dear, I have to confess that even every two weeks seems quite an exotic proposal to me. I am more like a once-a-month (if that!) girl  :rotfl:
Have a great day everybody xxxFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Hi all
My five for yesterday are
1. The coffee after watching DS2 playing rugby in the rain.
2. DS2 winning.
3. Electricity on all day - I take it for granted until powercuts.
4. Seeing all the different types of mushrooms when walking.
5. Selling some stuff on ebay.0 -
Good evening peeps.
Caterina - I'm glad you had a nice weekend, and an unexpected day off today, too.
house elf - you don't sound pathetic at all. I've been off sick for best part of two weeks with a cough / cold / temperature, so I do know how you feel. I hope you feel better soon.
beachbaby - hugs to you.
Frith - I hope you feel much better by now, and the tablets have kicked in properly. Get well soon!
sparrer - hugs and get well soon to your dogget.
frugalpam - hope your puddy tat gets better soon, and so do the vet's bills.
My pleasures for the past two days:
Yesterday:
1) A nice lie-in to make up for the fact I haven't been sleeping well at night.
2) Smoked salmon on HM bread for breakfast.
3) NSD.
4) Picked another big tub-full of HG tomatoes.
5) Watching the showjumping on the internet - or rather, watching my cat hunting the horses. I think they might be a bit big for a cat to hunt! :rotfl:
Today:
1) Managed a whole day at work, although my energy ran out before the day did ad I didn't get much done in the last half hour or so.
2) Received a free sample of a new type of cat food, which went down surprisingly well with my fussy feline.
3) HM ham and mushroom pie tonight, made from gammon leftover from Saturday night.
4) And there will be plenty left for tomorrow's dinner, too.
5) It's stopped raining at last, and there was even some strange yellow stuff outside the office window this afternoon.
On a sadder note, my grandmother has lost the house she had put in an offer for (now my other grandmother, who was one of her oldest friends, has died, she's hoping to move closer to my parents) - the couple who own the house have changed their mind and decided they don't want to sell after all. I'm sure there must be a good reason, but I'm so disappointed for my grandmother when she'd set her heart on moving to a nice little house in the countryside.
Anyway, have a nice evening all, and fingers crossed all the sickly people and animals get better soon.Back after a very long break!0 -
Hi everyone!
Do hope you're feeling better Frith - ear infections are so painful, so hopefully the antibiotics kick in soon. Sparrer - hope your dog is getting better, and beachbaby - I'm sure your daughter won't have meant it. They really don't realise just how hurtful their comments can be and the impact they have on those close to them.
And Caterina - thank heavens I'm not the only one who doesn't mop the kitchen floor regularly
And thanks to all for the good wishes for my puddy cat
My 5 pleasures:-
1 Woke and remembered it wasn't a work day
2 Lovely day out with a friend, and we sat out in gorgeous sunshine in a sheltered spot for coffee - what a treat for October!
3 Lovely fuss from my cat, who's improving and no longer sneezing
4 Found I'd lost 0.75lb at WW weigh in, bringing the total to 5lbs loss in 3 weeks
5 Prospect of a nice lazy evening and an early night
Pam x0
