5 OS Pleasures in your Day Today part 2

Caterina and Primrose, believe me I'm no saint, I just have a dog and two cats, a kitchen door to the garden and a very pale grey floor
.
Re changing sheets, I wash them monthly  . I shower when I get changed in the evening and have a king sized bed so turn the sheets, duvet cover and pillow cases every week, that way they get worn evenly. So you see I'm really far from perfect, just practising OS. That's my story anyway0 -
Evening all.
Caterina / Primose / sparrer - thanks for reminding me that I really need to buy a new mop - my old one's broken and my poor kitchen floor's desperate for a wash. At least the dark flooring that was put ina few weeks ago means it doesn't really show.
beachbaby - welcome to the thread. I hope you find lots of nice things to post about - it sounds like you richly deserve them.
I'm not sure I can think of many pure pleasures today - nearly all of them have come with a sting in the tail!
1) As I agreed with my manager's deputy, I worked from home today (I went into the office yesterday but was sent home within 2 hours as my cough was worrying everybody, as they thought it was infectious - it isn't, it's just the legacy of two years' living in a damp, moudly flat before I moved into my current place). Unfortunately my manager proved not to be happy with this plan, so there will probably be a 'discussion' (i.e. a telling off
) on Monday. At least I got to stay inside out of the rain - a major pleasure with all this sogginess around.
2) Watching the rain teem down. The cat was less impressed, though, and scratched me because I wouldn't turn the rain off so he could go outside and do his necessaries.
3) Received a freebie gift pack of biscuits from the milkman - which he dumped in a puddle outside my front door, in the rain, so I've ended up with a pile of soggy, muddy cardboard rather than the nice pack which I intended to give to a friend on Sunday to thank her for looking after my cat while I was in south London last month. I've been promised a replacment, but it looks like I won't get it until Monday - after I've met with the friend I wanted to give it to.
4) It stopped raining long enough for me to put the rubbish out without getting totally drenched.
5) It's Friday, so I can sleep in tomorrow and try and shake off this darned bug for once and for all. (The good thing about the internet is that none of you can hear how much I'm coughing, for which I'm very grateful!)
Oh, and not a pleasure at all but I feel the need to vent: some !!!!!!!! burnt down the dinosaur sculpture on Southsea Common last night.:mad::mad: I very much doubt whoever did it will read this, but just in case: <raspberry> to you. Pointless vandalism is something I've never understood.:mad::mad:
[vent ends]
Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely evening (except whoever barbecued the dinosaur, obviously), and I will try and find some proper, cheerful pleasures for tomorrow.Back after a very long break!0 -
Thanks again everyone for your kind welcome and warm wishes. The weather has been horrible here today - nearly got blown away.
My FIVE for today;
1. Haven't cried once (or even felt like crying).
2. A few extra hours at work.
3. The last Crunchie in the pack with a cup of coffee. Bought a pack of four for us all last night. (The fourth one would normally have been DH's).
4. A lovely new plum coloured lampshade from a kind lady on freecycle. I am going to change my bedroom round and get a new duvet cover to match.
5. Two yummy scented vanilla candles from my sister.
Good wishes to all.0 -
Evening all,
CCP - hope you feel better soon!
Beachbaby - glad you have been feeling more cheery today.
Sparrer - add me to the list of people you have shamed in the kitchen floor cleaning stakes. I admit I am a disgrace! I hate washing the floor!
Another looooong day in the office. Boooo.... One of my colleagues is a breast cancer survivor and has been clear for 10 years. Worryingly she has found some lumps in her neck -hope its nothing.
1) I have been very greedy today - but generally have beve been virtuous and been munching on rice cakes. Though I did also have a naughty flapjack....
2) My dishwasher cleaned properly for the first time in at least a month following my fixing it yesterday.
3) It's the weekend... PHEW!
4) NSD - start the month like I mean to go on!
5) Yummy lamb curry for supper.
Night all - sleep well. I certainly will!
LMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Starting and ending the day with a post here.
1. Baking is done - shortbread made for first time since it's death. I took a batch down every time I visited. A shortcake/tart thing, with home-grown apples and peaches, kiwifruit, sultanas and cinnamon, in a baked orange and ground almond cream. Looks, smells better than o.k. A bean, ham, garlicky cherry tomato concoction, working out what to be in slow cooker overnight. Food for tomorrow and Tuesday at Charity Showroom thus done.
2. Feeling something tickly whilst in kitchen just now, saw a ladybird climbing my leg and have just put her out into night-time sage to carry on with her life.
3. ...where she might come across Mme Mouse. During an outside dash to Number One Shed and freezer, I saw a little one huddled and roundy-tiny against the brickwork. Quite unconcerned as I neared was she. Although I did not dispatch her - exceeding cute I have to say - I did at once check the various bait dishes around the place and top them up. Backing onto farmland, days drawing in, crops all cut, the months of Fourfoot vigilance are returning.
4. SCD began.
5. R4's The News Quiz and QI were especially good tonight and both will be repeated.

:mad:That's awful! What is it with some people?
Here are my five from today:
1) Managed to have our lovely woodland meet-up with friends before the rain. It's such a lovely group of adults and children so always a great pleasure to see them.
2) Took an hour to myself lying on the bed reading this afternoon - bliss!
3) DS1 got two badges in Beavers and is eager to start doing some good deeds for another badge.
4) DS2 had a rough night at Scouts with some name-calling but it was a delight seeing him 'chatting' with his online friends when he got home.
5) A nice phonecall with my mum tonight.
Have a great weekend everyone.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Good evening,
Well,I've had another nice day, though didn't do everything that I'd planned.Nice weather here, sunny and warmish.
My 5 are
1 Walking home through the park,I heard birdsong and looked up to see a busy nuthatch churping away and feeding on a treetrunk.Apart from being a lovely sight, what is amazing is that I knew that it was a nuthatch and not just a bird!
2 Did quite a lot of housework, including the cleaning the bathroom and kitchen floors.sparrer-I'm seriously impressed,I do mine once a week.
I only change the bag in the rubbish bin once a month as a personal challenge to reduce waste etc,so did that today.
3 I've put aside quite a lot of things to take to the charity shop tomorrow.
4 I didn't go running and meant to go for a long walk.I went out late but ended up walking for 3 miles anyway.
5 I've cleared the sitting room table to make way for a jigsaw.
sparrer I'm sorry to read about your friend passing away.
Ladyhawk hope you have a relaxing weekend.Where do you get your energy to do such long hours?
reverbe I hope that things work out with your accomodation.
beachbabe Welcome!Glad for you that today has been better.
CCP Hope that you feel better soon.
Have a good weekend x0 -
Kitchenbunny you're braver than me, the scariest thing I'll watch is a cartoon! Hope your DH recovers soon
ampersand the weather may suit some but it didn't help Ryder Cup. I was planning a lazy days viewing, but we all know about plans
Primrose good for you gardening between showers, we may complain a lot but we're stoic
Caterina hope you're having a wonderful weekend, it sounds just what's needed after a difficult work day
CCP you tell that stressy old manager you were given permission by his deputy, and to take any issues up with them. Take care of yourself over the weekend, you deserve to rest. I was  at the moronic gesture someone made, I do hope they find the culprit. I'm having dark flooring put down soon (I hope) so the floor won't get swabbed to death like this one has to!
Beachbaby I did smile at you eating the last Crunchie. There'll be lots of 'naughty' things you can do now, so have fun!
Ladyhawk I do hope the lumps your friend found are innocent. Tut tut at the flapjack, but they're irresistible, as I well know
Blimus your walk sounds lovely, woodland always smell good in the rain. Congrats to DS1 on his badges, and to DS2 on his getting on with other things after the name calling.
Marmite coming home from a walk to do a jigsaw sounds a lovely autumny thing to do. Your rubbish bin challenge is a great idea, I think I'll have to borrow it
1. Wore a pair of long johns I bought in the summer, under my trousers as the evenings are getting chilly now. Not only did they keep my legs warm but my back anf half my chest, and my feet where they were too long. The joys of being 5 feet nothing - it'll save on vests and sox though
2 nsd
3. Had lovely hm chicken soup and hm bread for lunch, and pasta with a hm veggie/tomatoey topping for dinner. Roughly worked out the cost, with cereal for breakfast todays meals came to about 90p. I do drink lots of tea but water down whole milk 50% and use the teabags twice
4. Emptied the vacuum cleaner bag and put it back in rather than throwing the whole thing away.
5. Long phone call with the friend I'm going to India with (now you know why I water down the milk and use the teabags twice) we've persuaded the hotel manager to let us have air con as a free extra in the rooms by assuring him we're suggesting everyone in our party books there. We are of course, but there's no point in advertising his hotel and not getting something in return, is there
Night night, sweet dreams
S x0 -
Sparrer - I did spend quite a lot of time staring at the lava lamp
India? Ooh, I hope you have a fab time!
OK, my five for yesterday:
1. An early night. In bed before 9pm and got up (fairly broken night's sleep but I got a lot) at 7...
2. ... by DH with a cup of tea.
3. He's feeling better! He's still not right though.
4. Another film from LoveFilm - New Moon - and it was OK.
5. I've woken up with some energy and am going to do a work out.
Well, beside the early night we discovered that when the gas engineer had checked the boiler he had left it set so it would come on at about 3am in the morning for half hour. Not too happy about that, but at least we've remedied it and the thermostat was set so it would only come on if the temperature dipped below 16C. Beyond that, I've taken out some pork mince (RTC Mr M, hurrah) from the freezer to make a healthy spaghetti bolognese for tea. I'll fill it out with lots of veggies to help with extra vittles.
I seem to have gotten a bit more organised with my OSiness again. I hate having these dips - they usually always happen every few months or so - but I think I'm getting back to it now.
(((hugs))) to those in need, and I hope you have a good day.

Apologies for not being able to read everyone's posts - life is just a tad busy right now. I leave for Thailand in 3 days and have lots to do! So this will be my last post for a while, but I am sure I will be back posting pleasures again at some stage!
Recent ones for me include:
1. The gorgeous basket of flowers that was delivered to me by a client. The perfume from the lilies and the carnations was beautiful.
2. The lovely cards and farewell gifts I've had. Which included a packet of condoms plus a bottle of lubricant, and a portable female urinal....I kid you not!
3. Going out for lots of delicious farewell meals with friends this week, with the prospect of more to come. Moroccan food tonight!
4. Having my last day at work on Thursday, which was quite emotional for me as a big chapter of my life has come to a close. On to the next part of my life...
5. Feeling so, so, so excited about everything!
See you all soon..Life is not a dress rehearsal.0
